300 Space and Toilets

December 2nd, Moon Palace.

After the completion of Building 2, after three days of low-pressure airtight inspection, two days of normal pressure observation, 12-hour gas leakage test (high pressure), it passed the project acceptance and was officially opened today.

A large group of robots helped, and the two strollers traveled between Building 1 and Building 2, and spent a whole day moving.

Building 2 covers a total area of 500 square meters, and the area of one floor is more than the two floors of Building 1 after expansion.

However, excluding the three-story lobby, the area that can be used is not particularly large.

According to the living needs of at least 50 people for emergency shelter from the industrial chain, the conventional single room in Building 2 is 12 square meters, and the couple share a double room with 25 square meters.

It seems that the area is not much better than Building 1, but due to the structural design, the difference is very large.

Most of the structures of Building 2 are built in concrete and airtight factories on the lunar surface. Some materials are processed by the factory area. The overall diameter is not limited by the launch vehicle. The single layer is 3.8 meters high.

This height span is quite strange. It is neither the 3.3 meters common for commercial buildings nor the 2.8 and 3 meters common for civilians. Its purpose is to use as few building materials as possible to strive for a better living environment.

All housing is a duplex, with single rooms plus up and down, stairs, beds, non-movable cabinets, tables and chairs not counted. The area that can be moved by people is 14 square meters. In the middle of the two single rooms, there are large cabinets facing two rooms respectively. If they are demolished, they will become double rooms.

When changing a double room, there are some movable changes in the stairs, second-floor partition walls, etc. The second floor can divide an additional soundproof study or childcare room according to needs.

The living conditions of senior talents on the surface are definitely not comparable to those of the Moon Palace, but the accommodation environment at this time is already a lot of space stations and the best in the base, and there are no independent bathrooms in other places.

Moreover, in addition to increasing the floor height, the future expansion plan of Building 2 will eventually turn the "l" type into a "t" type, and the larger room will also be added in this process.

Now the second and third floors of Building 2 are for residential use, and the first floor includes a multi-functional conference room, a restaurant, a entertainment room, a robot repair station, a gym, and a large room that is vacant to be a kindergarten in the future. The central control center of the building is thrown on the negative floor.

There is no experimental place in the entire building.

After moving, Building 1 was redirected back to its original use, mainly used for indoor crop cultivation, living, restaurants, etc., and will be demolished for some experimental equipment to enter the site later.

At this stage, the "Emergency Refuge for the Industrial Chain Break" has been completed for the Moon Palace's infrastructure preparations, and there will still be no more people to be introduced in the future. The reason is like the famous swimming pool that lets water in and out. The more people, the more it affects the speed of material hoarding.

Next, it will be switched to material hoarding and function expansion stage, and the average daily workload of astronauts will be reduced by 40%.

Aerospace, like civil engineering and police, is a business where women use men as men and animals, and reduces workload. It is not that the ground personnel suddenly discovered their conscience, but just to give astronauts more leisure time and give them a strategy to stimulate the birth of babies.

Humans have zero adaptability to the space environment. In a zero-gravity environment, they cannot give birth to babies even if they want to have children.

The gravity on the lunar surface is not very strong, and many difficulties still need to be overcome for giving birth, but at least the possibility is no longer zero.

This is also the most important part of the goal of sustainability. If there is no newborn in space, everything you have done before will be in vain.

Taking advantage of the fact that the ground was still able to provide support for space, after the first phase of infrastructure was completed, we quickly entered the stage of giving birth to a baby.

From then on, two couples from the four couples in the Moon Palace have signed relevant research agreements. This is the main business, especially women, who entered the state of nutritional reserves and normalized physical examinations two weeks ago. Once they are confirmed to be pregnant, their workload will be further reduced.

Except for two couples, other people who have not signed research agreements, regardless of whether they are single or not, the restrictions on having children have also been lifted. However, it is not recommended to get pregnant in groups before having enough medical devices.

Livestock... male astronauts, the next work is to improve all aspects of the Moon Palace Base.

The lunar soil radiation removal device mentioned above is also in this stage.

In addition, there are three construction projects.

One is the second phase of Building 2, which is expanded from four to seven floors, installation of equipment outside the building, etc.

The second is the airtight corridor connecting Building 1 and Building 2. The project has certain experimental properties to help explore the architectural interconnection model of future moon-meter cities.

Third, the square is flat and a formal spacecraft take-off and landing area is established.

In terms of project difficulty, square leveling projects are the most difficult.

It sounds a bit strange, but the physical rules determine the result.

The gravity of one-sixth of the lunar surface makes the leveling machinery (strong ramming) of the soil ball very large here, and hitting the ground will cause many harmful splashes.

During the construction of Building 2, the foundation compaction method used was grouting. The simple action of grouting can be very troublesome on the moon. The temperature management must be very strict so that the slurry will not boil.

When placed on the monthly table, the temperature management requirements for grouting are even more embarrassing. Unless a "lid" with certain airtightness and heat insulation capabilities are temporarily built in every place that needs to be consolidated, it will not be achieved at all.

The ground is also using the situation collected from Building 2's foundation construction to formulate compaction plans and related machinery. Even if everything goes well, it will not be possible to arrive at the Moon Palace after the New Year.

Unlike the Moon Palace, the Kunpeng Space Station, which has lower quality loss in orbital delivery, welcomed the third batch of members earlier.

The Kunpeng Space Station has not made it very fast in recent months. The main reason is that the outer ring radius is too large, the designed cross-sectional area is also larger, the project volume is really not small, and the simulated gravity is greater when the outer ring rotates, so most of the work cannot be done without stopping rotation.

However, with the joint efforts of astronauts, robots and ground remote control equipment, the Kunpeng Space Station also achieved the first sealing of the outer circle at the end of November.

The first stage gravity section has a width of five meters in the first stage; the second stage has a width of seven meters, and has two layers.

The width of the outer ring in the first phase is nine meters, with a total of three layers, and the inner hollow height of a single layer is 2.6 meters.

With a width of nine meters, the corridor placed on the side connecting the second phase project is still very sufficient.

At this time, the actual total internal area of Kunpeng Space Station (excluding volume) is nearly four times larger than the two buildings in Yuegong. But unfortunately, because Kunpeng is a serious space station, Kunpeng people have to wait for the next life if they want to have an independent bathroom.

The bathrooms used in aerospace have been produced for several generations.

When the first batch of astronauts came to the sky, there was no bathroom at all. Sometimes the launch was delayed by a few hours, and the astronauts had to cut off their electricity and urinate in the space suit.

Later, there was a urine bag, which is the thing the medical system uses for patients today.

Then, there is a serious toilet for poop.

At this time, the toilet is still in a straight line. First of all, the astronauts have to find a way to get the poop into a fist-sized toilet in a zero-gravity environment (it is very technically tested, and plastic bags with finger condoms appeared), then cover the lid and line it up directly into space!

The moment the toilet is connected to the vacuum, the scene is unknown... you can still see it.

Next, high-end goods will be launched. The suction-type sanitation system includes urinating and pooping. They generate a certain suction force through the method of purging air so that they will not float everywhere. After collecting it, pack it and throw it into the atmosphere.

Later on, the space toilets we know today are linked to the water cycle. The metabolic end product after dehydration is a bag of stuff that looks like vacuum nut packaging.

However, this toilet connected to the water circulation device is a bit large in size. All equipment at Kunpeng Space Station has to come from the surface, so it is impossible for everyone to match one.

Some students must ask, isn’t Kunpeng Space Station rotating and simulates gravity? Can’t it concentrate sewage treatment like a normal toilet?

The answer is...it really can't.

The corrosion performance of sewage is significantly higher than that of ordinary people. If the drainage pipe surrounding the entire space station is used, once a leakage occurs, it will inevitably be an extremely serious accident.

At this time, humans had no experience in building a rotating space station, and there was no data to ensure that artificial sewage pipes would not have any problems in space environment for decades.

Another point is that Kunpeng Space Station needs to be suspended occasionally, and no one can ensure that everyone on the station can hold it in, which ruled out the possibility of using regular toilets.

In order to control the scale of the disaster when any disaster occurs, and the emergency response can be completed independently by the space station members. The toilet must be centrally set up, the pipeline system is isolated from other power and signal cables, and even the gas management system must set up a separate emergency plan.

There are only three ordinary sanitary areas in the outer ring of Kunpeng Space Station, corresponding to three sections cut from three structural column sections. Each floor is in the same position. If you just come to the outer ring, you have to go to the toilet and run more than 100 meters.

There are three more sanitary areas.

Two of them are scheduled for hospitals, located on the outermost layer of the three-layer structure of the outer ring, which is the first floor of the body feeling of the human body. One is scheduled for the animal husbandry system that may be present in the future. This is not yet certain, but the gas, liquid pipelines and treatment devices have been arranged (the toilet is not installed).

Not to mention the toilet.

After the first closed inspection of the outer ring of the space station was passed, the third group of personnel arrived. These people were responsible for the construction of the inner room of the outer ring in the next few months, and the relevant boards were all inside and there was no need to enter and exit.

By the way, after this structure is airtight, it is more troublesome to enter and exit things with a larger length and width value. It needs to be stopped as a whole, and a large specially set up airtight room is opened to the public, and then a spacecraft is suspended by the side and stuffed things in.
