Chapter 205 Traces of Tomb Robbers

"Have you found the tomb door?"

As soon as they heard that the tomb door had been found, people from the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Social Sciences and others who were cleaning the east side of the tomb passage became energetic.

Why are you cleaning the tomb door?

Hurry up and join in the fun!

Under the leadership of Professor Ke, a group of people rushed towards the cemetery.

Following the passage dug out by the Qinghai Archaeological Institute, everyone soon came to a wall.

"Zhaoqiang" is a multi-curved wall between the tomb passage and the tomb.

This wall is higher in the east and lower in the west. It is a wall that encloses the tomb passage and corridor from the earthen walls on both sides of the tomb passage to the west.

To put it simply, it is a wall derived from the left and right ends of the tomb door, next to the tomb passage, its function is to support and fix it, and it may also have some aesthetic effects.

In the middle of the wall are the corridor and the tomb gate.

The corridor is connected to the tomb passage and is the passage into the main tomb chamber. It is also high in the east and low in the west.

The north and south walls of the corridor are built with stone blocks, which are shared with the screen wall. There are wooden passages between the stone layers. There are two-story platforms and three-story platforms on the two walls, with a total height of 2.26 meters.

The top of the corridor is made of wood and stone, that is, a layer of gravel is laid between the two layers of shed wood. It is very strong and not easy to collapse.

"This tomb uses a lot of shed wood to make the roof. In this aspect, it is actually somewhat similar to the nine-story demon tower." Chen Han said curiously.

The so-called shed wood is actually a "round board" built with logs arranged in a row. This thing is relatively rare in the tombs of the Central Plains.

The tombs in the Central Plains are either made of vertical pits or earthen pits, and no wood is used to build the roof. The walls in the tomb may be made of stone, or they may simply keep the original appearance of earth.

Only when capping the tomb, use a row of roofing plates to cover the tomb and then backfill it.

First of all, the later more advanced tombs were built with stones or bricks and looked like an underground palace.

Only in the main tomb, cypress wood will be used to make "Huang Chang Ti Co".

However, Huangchangticuo is different from the structure of directly building a shed with wood as a supporting structure.

Huang Chang Ti Cou is more of a decoration. It is filled with cypress wood in the main tomb and the main coffin is wrapped in the center. It is a "noble" burial system, rather than a material for building a tomb.

Most of the shed wood in this tomb was used to build the tomb.

The roofs of those sacrificial pits were built with shed wood.

The top of this corridor is also covered with a layer of shed wood, followed by a layer of gravel and then a layer of shed wood.

This has the feeling of a "nine-story demon tower".

The nine-story demon pagoda is a tower built layer by layer using cypress wood. It also uses wood as the main material for building tombs.

It's just that the tombs built outside are a bit special.

"It seems that although the Tuyuhun people gave up the burial system of the nine-story demon tower, they did not completely abandon the tradition. When building tombs, they also used a large amount of wood as raw materials."

Professor Ke also nodded in agreement.

"Are you here?" Li Chunchao, deputy director of the Qinghai Institute of Archeology, greeted them enthusiastically and walked towards the tomb door.

As he walked, he also introduced: "The tomb gate is located in the middle of the corridor. It consists of door frames and panel doors that are close to the two walls of the corridor."

"The door frame is composed of two sets of square wooden columns on the north and south sides running east and west."

"To put it simply, this tomb door is made of wooden boards and logs."

"And the tomb door is not big. The height is only over one meter, and the width is only about 70 or 80 centimeters."

"Even for an adult to pass through, it's very inconvenient. You need to bend down to enter."

"I estimate that this tomb door was the last to be repaired after all the tomb chambers and coffins were put in."

"This has the advantage of preventing tomb robbers from stealing the coffin of the tomb owner."

"However, tomb robbers are never interested in the tomb owner's coffin, only the funerary objects inside."

"And they usually don't go through the main entrance, but dig directly into the main tomb chamber."

"This anti-theft method can only be said to be better than nothing."

After leading a group of people to the tomb door, Li Chunchao pointed to a hole in the tomb door and said, "But there are also tomb robbers who use the main entrance."

"Due to theft, some of the upper boards of the door were damaged, and parts of the middle board were rotten."

"The board door was originally decorated with bubble nails, and a severely rusted iron bubble nail cap was found at the bottom of the corridor."

"There must have been a group of tomb robbers who entered through the corridor and destroyed the upper part of the tomb door. But why they destroyed the upper part of the tomb door is a bit hard to understand."

"You said you want to go inside. It's obviously more convenient to destroy the bottom."

"And this tomb door is made of wooden boards, which are riveted and fixed with iron nails. As long as the iron nails are pulled out, the wooden boards can be removed."

"There is no need to destroy it like this. If the upper part is destroyed, is it possible for tomb robbers to jump in through this hole?"

"But this hole is so small, it seems like it can't accommodate adults in and out."

Li Chunchao touched his chin and was speechless.

Many robber holes have been discovered in this tomb. From the tomb passage to the top of the main tomb chamber, there are seven or eight robber holes.

With the level of a tomb robber, why bother to go through the front door? Even if you go through the front door, why just make a hole in the upper left side of the door?

"Perhaps this hole was used to transport funerary objects?"

Kong Jianwen gestured at the size of the hole and said uncertainly: "One tomb robber entered the tomb through the hole, and the other entered through the corridor and waited outside the tomb door."

"When the tomb robbers who enter have finished searching for the funerary objects, they will hand out the valuable gold and silverware through the hole in the tomb door?"

"Then the tomb robbers inside return from the original route of the robbery cave, and the tomb robbers outside return from the original route of the robbery cave on the corridor?"

"Why go to such trouble?" Li Chunchao said puzzledly.

"Because among tomb robbers, they are also afraid of taking advantage of others!" Kong Jianwen spread his hands: "Look, in ancient times, tomb robbers were either fellow villagers, or simply father and son."

"Even so, gangsters and gangsters are not uncommon. We have found the skeletons of tomb robbers in many robbed tombs."

"In order to prevent this kind of gangster behavior, both those who go to the tomb and those who stay above must take precautions."

"In this way, it is safest for two tomb robbers to work as a team and use this method of separate operations."

"Both people were buried in the tomb, but one was in the tomb and the other was outside the tomb."

"After the people inside searched for the treasure, they handed it over to people outside for confirmation."

"Then they both have to return to the ground from different robbery holes, and the time is almost the same."

"This avoids the possibility of anyone trying to kill the other person in the tomb and keep the treasure to himself!"

Li Chunchao was still puzzled: "How could these two people climb up from the robbery hole without anyone pulling the rope up there?"

The so-called gangsters usually refer to tomb robbers who go down to the tomb. After bringing the funerary objects up from the robbery hole, the tomb robbers directly loosen the ropes, then backfill the soil, and quickly bury the items below that have not yet come up.

"You are stupid. This tomb is not deep. The depth from the building on the ground to the tomb chamber is only two or three meters!"

"With this depth, compared to the level after the Tang and Song Dynasties, just make a ladder!"

"If there is a ladder, can one person do it? There is no need for two people?" Li Chunchao continued to ask.

This time, Kong Jianwen was speechless.

"...Maybe there is something that requires two people to work together, or the two people have a very good relationship and are brothers."
