Chapter 4: Getting off the Construction Site (Follow-up!)

The address assigned to the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Social Sciences is pretty good.

There are two two-story bungalows connected together, and there is a large farmyard in the middle. There is also a small pigsty in the yard, and there are three spotted pigs, two large and one small.

Although the local flavor is a bit stronger.

But in a small village in an inland province like Lajia Village, it is already rare to have such a courtyard.

There are two small buildings with a total of eight rooms on four floors.

There were four boys in one room and three girls in one room. After a simple allocation, Chen Han and his three senior brothers moved in with their luggage.

Students in the Department of Archeology are different from other university departments.

After all, in the subject of archeology, there are some things that cannot be taught through text textbooks. The essence must be learned through practical experience.

Basically from the beginning of their junior year, students in the Department of Archeology have to frequently practice with their teachers. Especially in the summer, autumn and spring of each year, they basically stay at the excavation site.

This can be regarded as a test for archeology students. It allows them to experience the life of the archeology industry and taste the ups and downs of field archeology.

Therefore, Chen Han has experienced this kind of experience of living in remote countryside many times in the past two years, and he is quite familiar with it.

The temporary dormitory for four people per room feels like a university dormitory, so friendly!

Chen Han skillfully stuffed the suitcase he brought under the bed, smiled and asked his senior brother who was making the bed across the bed: "Brother, I heard that there are other archaeological teams coming to Lajia Village in a steady stream."

“This is a really big project!”

The senior fellow student who was in the same room with him was named Zhuang Yunpeng. He was also a doctoral student under Kong Wenjian. He was three years older than Chen Han and was in the same year as Su Sa. Both of them were preparing their graduation thesis this year.

Hearing Chen Han's sigh, he straightened up and smiled: "Junior brother, we are lucky this time, and we can still have villagers living there."

"The archaeological teams from other provinces and universities that came later will probably have to wait until the mobile prefabricated houses on the construction site are built and move into the mobile prefabricated houses."

“Living in mobile prefabricated houses is not as comfortable as these simple houses!”

Thinking of the mobile board house he lived in when he was an intern at the Lianshangang Paleolithic Archaeological Base last year, Chen Han immediately nodded angrily.

Senior brother is right!

Why is field archeology always said to be a "construction site" by archaeologists? Isn't it because the form of work is very similar to that of a construction site?

Mobile prefabricated houses, which are common even at construction sites, can be seen everywhere at archaeological sites.

Archaeologists, unlike some outsiders think, are thinking about where to dig other people's ancestral graves every day, and then set out in a planned way.

In fact, in most cases, the archaeological team cannot decide where to go for archeology.

Whenever something happened, I would rush over in a hurry.

If ancient tombs are excavated due to infrastructure construction in the city, and protective excavation or rescue excavation is carried out, then it is easy to say that you can find a hotel or guest house nearby to stay, and the accommodation is not bad.

But this is a rare case.

In most cases, archaeological work is usually carried out in a remote wilderness.

After all, ancient tombs and ruins that are not remote will not be well hidden even in the 21st century.

In rural areas, archaeological teams usually have to stay temporarily in nearby villages to facilitate their work.

After work, I cook and eat with my fellow villagers. I also go to the city regularly for shopping and delivery, fully integrating into rural life.

That's it, it's pretty good.

Sometimes, because the excavation site is too remote, with wastelands or mountains nearby, the archaeological team can only temporarily find a construction team to build some mobile houses near the excavation site to facilitate their work.

You need to take care of all your food, clothing, housing and transportation yourself. Moreover, the wooden house leaks water in the summer and air leaks in the winter. It is really uncomfortable to live in. In the winter, the dog is so frozen that there is no place to take a bath.

When going to the toilet, I can only find a pile of weeds to make do.

The Lajia ruins suddenly discovered this time, because the area explored was so large, almost half of the archaeological workers in China were mobilized.

Obviously, the small Lajia Village cannot accommodate so many people, nor can it free up so many rooms.

Fortunately, Chen Han and his colleagues from the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Social Sciences were, after all, a team directly under the emperor's command. Not only did they arrive early, but they were also able to grab the vacant houses in Lajia Village.

Later, some provincial and local teams came late, as well as some archaeological teams from the history departments of some universities. The 80% of them had to wait to live in mobile prefabricated houses.

The other two senior brothers in the room also patted their chests with lingering fear and said happily: "It's okay, it's okay!"

It can be seen that the mobile prefabricated houses have left a deep impression on them.

"Dang~dang~dang~"

A crisp ringing sound interrupted Chen Han's conversation with several senior brothers.

This is the bell sound for notification collection.

The four of them looked at each other, quickly put down the bedding they were preparing, got up and went downstairs.

By the time Chen Han and the others rushed downstairs, the courtyard was already filled with team members from the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Kong Wenjian, wearing a sun hat, swaggered up to everyone and shouted with great enthusiasm: "Comrades!"

"Staff from the local archaeological institute in Qinghai have already come to pick us up."

"We will take advantage of this afternoon to go to the Lajia ruins site to familiarize ourselves with the working environment. In the next few months, we will all work together here."

"I hope this scientific research and archaeological work at the Lajia site can achieve successful results!"

"Set off!"

Chen Han, who was standing in the last row, exchanged glances with Zhuang Yunpeng helplessly.

This teacher of mine is really resolute and resolute. He has just arrived in Lajia Village and has not even had time to take a break before he is about to get into work.

Well, in the entire archaeological team, Kong Wenjian is the leader. Even the other researchers who are also professors are not as good as Kong Wenjian, who holds the title of deputy director.

"Let's go, let's go to the construction site."

"I heard that the Lajia ruins discovered this time are very close to the existence of the Xia Dynasty. I wonder if we will find any evidence of connection with the Xia Dynasty."

"I guess it's a late Neolithic site. According to historical records, the capital of Xia is far away from here."

"Even if it's not the Xia Capital, maybe we can still find some clues related to the Xia Dynasty!"

"Qinghai is close to the Qijia Culture. Maybe the Lajia site is a late Qijia Culture site. I think this is more likely."

As the members of the archaeological team followed Kong Wenjian and the staff of the local archaeological institute in Qinghai out, they were talking a lot.

Hearing everyone's interesting discussion, the staff member of the Qinghai Archaeological Institute who was leading the way turned around and said with a smile:

"In the past week, researchers at the institute have determined based on the currently unearthed cultural relics that this site should be a central settlement in the late Qijia culture."

"At present, some jade bis, jade rings, and large jade knives that reflect the social hierarchy and etiquette system have been unearthed."

"It is of great significance to the study of the civilization process of Qijia culture."

"I believe that with the participation of elites from the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Social Sciences, the progress of exploring the Lajia ruins will be smoother!"

There were sighs from the crowd.

It has nothing to do with Xia Chao. What a pity that the hope of finding Xia Chao was dashed again.

Chen Han also sighed with some regret.

However, this emotion only stayed in his heart for a moment, and then he was full of energy!

Qijia culture can also be regarded as a very important cultural context in the project of tracing the origin of Chinese civilization.

A better understanding and interpretation of Qijia culture will be of great help in understanding the origin of Chinese civilization.

Based on this alone, the Lajia ruins are enough to become the most important new archaeological discovery this year!

What is lost is the east corner, and what is gained is the mulberry tree.

It is also very exciting to be able to explore one of the sources of Chinese civilization four thousand years ago!
