Chapter 5 The Surprising Personnel Adjustment

The head of state came to the Eagle's nest very few times, and they did not stay for more than an hour each time. But this is by no means that the Eagle's nest is backward and old. On the contrary, as the birthday gift given to the head of state's 50th birthday, the Eagle's nest, supervised by Martin Bowman, after 13 months and the intense construction of more than 6,000 workers, can be called "great and grand". The air is fresh and the scenery is beautiful. It is a mountain villa suitable for living, which is in sharp contrast with the darkness and humidity of the wolf's den, not to mention the crampedness of the base camp during the war. The only disadvantage is that it is a little far from the eastern line - but if the center of gravity of the combat is transferred to the southern line, this is the most suitable command place.

The Eagle Nest Operations Conference Room is more than 300 square meters. The low-level staff officers of the General Staff have arranged everything. The surroundings are standard light green, exactly the same as the commonly used colors of the Army Command. The ground is covered with artificial carpets of wild gray. It is very quiet to walk on it, which fully meets the requirements of the meeting. On the top are crystal chandeliers arranged in cross shapes, which brightly illuminate the lights in the room. The only thing that makes people feel uncomfortable is that the surrounding windows are closed and the curtains are covered.

The walls, but for the sake of safety and confidentiality, this approach is understandable. Relying on a well-operated ventilation system, it does not appear to be stuffy. On one side of the longer walls are the huge Thousand-Empress flag of the Third Reich, and on the other side are the military flag of the Imperial Army, Navy and Air Force. On one side is the huge portrait of the head of state on one side, and on the other side is a huge map. It is secretly marked with the distribution of troops and the situation of the enemy, making people able to see the current battlefield dynamics at a glance.

With the shouts of the guards of the head of the head of state guards, "The head of state is here!", Hoffman walked into the venue with steady steps. The conference room, which was originally slightly noisy, suddenly became quiet. Everyone stood up from their seats and made a neat "Hi, Hitler" sound.

Looking at the flashing star in the conference room and the neatly raised his hand, Hoffman was very nervous, and his heart almost reached his throat. Yesterday, he was a little embarrassed when he talked to Martin Bowman, Guderian, Zeitzler and others. Later, he slowly overcame this emotion. Today he thought it would be better, but he didn't expect that the deafening cry just now almost made him tremble and fall down. If he was his original scholar, there were red strips embedded in these pants and cornflower pattern on the collar seal.

Each of Yu Shenghui's generals is the object he should look up to - signing an autograph is a minor meaning, and you can write an academic masterpiece by just a random catch. Unexpectedly, by mistake, these have become their own subordinates, and they have to command them to participate in the war, which makes him feel like a nearly impossible goal. He waved his hand slightly, his joints and wrists were stiff. If someone stood by and listened carefully, he would probably hear the sound of his teeth "cruffing" when he gritted his teeth.

"Please sit down, everyone." Hoffman, who had finally calmed down, finally walked to his position. His mouth was very calm, his voice was impeccable, and he looked like a head of state. Only careful people could see the slightly deformed expression on his face due to tension, or it could be called hideous.

However, the focus of everyone's attention was soon shifted. Hoffman announced as the commander-in-chief of the Army: "Today's main content is to discuss the war on the Eastern Front. First of all, there are several personnel appointments and adjustments... General Halder was removed from the position of General Staff, and went to the Berlin Military Academy to serve as the director of education, focusing on the training of staff officers at all levels of the Army. General Zeitzler took over." Hearing this, Halder's face was very bad. He personally had no evil feelings about Zeitzler who replaced him. He only felt that being the chief of staff for a person who did not listen to his opinions was a chore, and it was even more of a shame to return to Berlin. However, he still suppressed his urge to get angry and wiped his glasses.

After the film, he turned around and left silently - the next meeting was meaningless to him anyway. With Halder's departure, everyone whispered and looked different. Long before the meeting, the news that Zedzler replaced Halder as the new chief of staff had spread. Everyone even knew clearly that Zedzler had passed the rank of lieutenant general last night and was directly promoted to infantry general. Many people were not surprised by Halder's departure, but they did not expect that this position would fall into the hands of Zedzler of the younger generation. Everyone's eyes showed envy and jealousy. They also saw Guderian, but there were no other expressions besides surprise - anyway, Guderian's relationship with them was very bad.

If this sentence is still within their acceptable range, Hoffman's speech shocked them, which was no less than a 500-pound aviation bomb put into the venue: "General Paulus was relieved of his position as commander of the Sixth Army of the Sixth Army, and went to the Western Front to serve as Chief of Staff of the General Command of the Western Front and also served as Chief of Staff of the Army Group D."

Everyone whispered to each other. What does this appointment mean? The Sixth Army commanded by Paulus is fighting on the Stalingrad front line. This is the strategic direction determined by the head of state. Why did the person suddenly change? Moreover, Paulus is the favorite general of the head of state and has been steadily improving in his staff position. Barbarossa's plan is his work. It is logical that he should continue to reuse it. He actually moved to the Western Front? Although it seems that he has been promoted from the commander of the army to the chief of staff of the Western Front, there is still a promotion to the Western Front, but there is no war at all at the moment. What is the use of transferring Paulus in the past? Did Paulus make an unforgivable mistake and anger the Chief of Staff? But no one has any rumors about this.

Hoffman glanced at everyone with a cold gaze, and knocked the table with his fingers very rarely. Everyone immediately stopped talking and returned to his silent state. Taking down Paulus was the result of Hoffman's careful consideration yesterday: Paulus was an excellent staff officer, but obviously not a qualified general to lead the army. The hundreds of thousands of troops of the 6th Army were destroyed by him in Stalingrad, and what's more serious was that he was urgently awarded by the head of state.

After the Marshal's scepter, he neither fought to the death nor committed suicide, but surrendered to the Russians. That's not all. In 1944, he called for troops to revolt and finally became a tainted witness in Nuremberg - which made Hoffman dislike his character. It's better to use the method of rising openly and descending secretly to the Western Front and use the strengths of the Chief of Staff under the old coach Longdested. This guy will do this for his whole life. Don't think about the Marshal's scepter anymore.

General Weix, the commander of the B Army Group, decided to stand up and say something to Paulus. Although the head of state directly retained the command of the 6th Army after the Southern Front Battle was launched, and Paulus did not have much personal friendship with him, at least the 6th Army was still a subordinate unit of the B Army Group. When Paulus was still fighting on the front line, his transfer order came inexplicably from the rear, which made him unable to accept it anyway. He decided to find the head of state to give an explanation.

He had just stood up and before he could question the decision of the head of state, Hoffman's order had been delivered: "General Weix, your position has also been adjusted. You go to the Central Army Group to take over Kruger's position, and the position of commander of the Army Group B Group will be taken over by Marshal Manstein."

"Me?" Weix was obviously not mentally prepared, his mouth was so wide that he could stuff an apple. What was going on?

Kruger, who was removed from his post, also stood up, his old face turned red, and said angrily: "First of the People, why did I get rid of my post? I need an explanation!"

"Explanation?" Hoffman glanced at him contemptuously, suddenly raised his tone and shouted, "Guard!"
