Chapter 8 Strategy Meeting

On the afternoon of August 25, 1942, at Upper Salzburg, the Third Reich Eagle Nest Base Camp was holding an Imperial Strategy Conference.

This was a meeting proposed by Hoffmann temporarily. There were not many people involved, so it was not used to use the large conference room where the military meeting was yesterday. Instead, it was found a meeting room with fresh air and a good view. However, it was obvious that the improvement of the environment did not bring about the improvement of the mood of the congregation. On the contrary, the atmosphere at the beginning of the meeting was very bad.

Everyone had just sat down, and before Hoffman could speak, the big belly of Nazi veteran, Air Force commander, and Imperial Marshal Herman Goring had spoken first, his tone was very sarcastic: "I don't know if the Heads-General Guard searched everyone's bags today. If there was a bomb like yesterday, the party and the country would be completely over. The Heads-General had saved the generals once, but they might not be able to save us again."

Obviously, the incident had spread among the top leaders last night. Gorene's words pointed directly at the national leader of the SS, Heinrich Himmler, not only because the guard flag team responsible for security belonged to the SS, but also because the function of arresting conspirators belonged to the Gestapo. Himmler could not destroy the rebel organization in advance and did not deal with it in time in the meeting. It was completely dereliction of duty in legal terms. But Hoffman knew that Gorene was more taking advantage of the issue. Last night, he clearly ordered the four Air Force field divisions to be dismantled into supplementary troops. Needless to say, the representative of the Imperial Air Force base camp must have passed the news back early this morning, which touched Gorene's sensitive nerves. He did not dare to get angry at the head of the head of the army and could only rely on pointing out the mulberry and scolding the locust.

The meeting suddenly fell into silence. Everyone looked at me and I looked at you, not knowing what to do: on one side was Gorene, and on the other side was Himmler, who had a gloomy face, and on the other side, they were the No. 2 and No. 3 of the Third Reich. In addition, the head of state who was sitting in the middle, no one dared to speak rashly.

After a while, Himmler spoke: "My Head, I want to apologize to you, because our mistakes in work have led to the conspiracy of the treasons so rampant." The national leader of the SS, who was born as a chicken farmer, had a low voice, his tone was full of confession and anxiety, and his thin body stood straight, "But we have taken action overnight and made breakthrough progress this morning..." He seemed quite confident, and while speaking, he distributed the files to the congregation.

Treskov did not resist the torture of the Gestapo. He confessed the core figures of the plot group that night. In fact, even if he didn't say a word, Hoffman knew the list of all important figures: Former Chief of Staff, General Ludwig Beck, and former commander-in-chief of the Western Front, Marshal Erwin von Witzleben, the director of the Military Intelligence Bureau, Admiral William Franz Canaris also faintly surfaced. The commander of the Reserve Army General Friedrich Fromm and the Army's Quartermaster, and Artillery General Edward Wagner were also famous figures. As for other miscellaneous fish, they were even more famous.

The turmoil in the treason group became increasingly turbulent. Looking at the long list in my hand, everyone felt their scalp numb.

"It can be seen that there are profound reasons for the war this year." Hoffman held up the file and roared, "My military chief is a traitor. No wonder the soldiers could not eat rations during the Battle of Moscow. They could only wear thin summer clothes to fight against the Russians in a climate of minus 30 degrees Celsius. My reserve army commander is a traitor. No wonder the reserve army with more than 2 million has not been able to replenish troops on the front line in time. Stalin was destroyed by us and 500 divisions and 500 divisions, and we even delayed the replenishment of 50 divisions. My head of the Military Intelligence Bureau was also a traitor. No wonder we invested a lot of manpower, material resources and financial resources but could only gain a lot of loopholes and contradictory intelligence! Both commanders of the Central Army Group had an affair with the traitor group, and the chief of staff was simply a core element. Such troops could still win battles?"

"Hmph! There are traitors in the army, the navy, the General Staff, the Supreme Command and even the Reserve Army, but our Air Force is the strong backing of national socialism and is all loyal to the leaders." Following Hoffman's words, Goren suddenly threw the file on the table viciously, stood up and pointed at Zeitzler's nose and cursed, "Say, why do you want to split our Air Force field division and incorporate loyal and reliable air forces into the unreliable army? I think you are also a hidden traitor."

Didn’t Gorene lose the favor of the head of state after the defeat of the Dunkirk Air Battle with Britain? Why did this fat man dare to take advantage of the issue so arrogantly! Hoffman couldn’t stand it anymore, knocked on the table in front of him and whispered: “Pay attention to your words and deeds, Marshal Gorene, it is my order to split the Air Force Field Division. We are now discussing the punishment of the treason group and don’t point the finger at your colleagues.”

Upon hearing this, Goring immediately became depressed and sat down again after a few "hum" sounds.

"I think some people are ignorant of the great power of the world, and even dare to object to the orders of the head of the head of state." Goering's usual opponent, Martin Bowman, did not forget to add fuel to the fire. "Probably the explosion did not happen, and some people's deputy head of state could not support the head of state and could not take over the shift."

Bauman's words have a reason. On June 29, 1941, the head of state issued an order. Once he encountered an accident in the war, Gorene would be his heir. Seeing that Gorene was going to pounce on him again, Hoffman had to scold him: "Bauman, you should say less."

Seeing the meeting at a deadlock, Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels, the mouthpiece of the Third Reich Department of National Education and Propaganda, came forward to smooth things out: "My comrades heard about yesterday, and we rushed to the head of state with great anxiety - fortunately everything was safe and sound. If the head of state had not been wise and decisive and dealt with on the spot, we would not know what kind of disaster would have caused. It can be seen that the head of state has insight and decisiveness far beyond our ability. As for how the treason group pursued and dealt with, we would better obey the head of state's instructions."

Goebbels is indeed a master of balance, but it is not only that that really touched Hoffman. He knew that until the last moment when the head of state committed suicide, Goebbels and his wife decided to follow him. Not only did they kill six children with their own hands, but both of them also committed suicide and died - they also used him for this loyalty. Of course, more importantly, it was to change the fate of himself and Goebbels' whole family.

He cast an appreciation look at Goebbels and said slowly: "Facts have proved that our intelligence work is a mistake. Of course, this is not Himmler's responsibility alone. The burden on him is too heavy. Canaris played an important role in the treason group with the advantage of being in charge of the Military Intelligence Agency and successfully concealed it from us, which shows the necessity of continuing to strengthen intelligence work. I decided that the Military Intelligence Agency will be directly responsible to me in the future, and will transfer the external functions of the Imperial Security Department and the Outer Military Office of the Eastern Front to fully be responsible for collecting external situations. Comrade Bauman assists me in daily work; the domestic functions of the Imperial Security Department will continue to strengthen their strength and be responsible for the surveillance of domestic enemies."

After Hoffman said this, he looked at Himmler. Unexpectedly, the other party's expression was extremely calm after his glasses. He could not see how dissatisfied him. It seemed that the head of state personally arresting the treason group had a great impact on him, and the order to reorganize the intelligence agency could only grit his teeth and execute it. Everyone was afraid that the owner of the chicken farm was too powerful. Seeing that the head of state came forward to cut power, they all agreed. Bauman did not expect a large piece of pie fell on his head, his face turned red, and his body was filled with excitement.

To find balance, Hoffmann will also say, to appease Himmler, he said: "Over the past year, the armed SS has made outstanding contributions on the Eastern Front, both in sacrifice and in combat performance. In addition, judging from the list of the treason group, the SS has not been infiltrated by the enemy and still maintains its consistent loyalty and reliability. This is the glory of national socialism and the party. I authorize you to form four more armed SS divisions, and at the same time, the Hitler division, Imperial division, and Skeleton division, which were resting in France, were given priority to transforming the Hitler division, Imperial division, and Skeleton division into the armored division."
