Chapter 3 Grandma's Advice

My hometown is in the west of the ancient city of Luoyang, a place called Qiantang Zhizhai. It only takes half an hour to get to our county town by urban and rural bus, and then takes a minibus for 20 minutes to get home.

However, my door was locked. Fortunately, I brought the key. I opened the door and went in. I made some steamed buns and pickles from the kitchen. After eating and drinking, I lay on the bed while watching the "Compendium of Materia Medica" while waiting for my parents to come back.

Maybe it was a long time to get tired, so I fell asleep while reading the book. I dreamed that I had entered a medicinal material warehouse with a wide variety of medicinal materials. I hurriedly compared these medicinal materials with the patterns in the book and got to know many medicinal materials that I had never seen before.

I was woken up by my sister. When I opened my eyes, it was already dark.

"Why don't you even say hello when you come back? Grandma is seriously ill and her parents rushed to her second uncle's house to take care of her!" The sister explained while making a fire and cooking.

I hurriedly asked: "Is my grandma seriously ill? Have you been sent to the hospital for a doctor's treatment?"

The sister added water to the big iron pot and responded: "I have been sent to the town central hospital. The doctor said that my grandmother is an old problem and needs to stay in the hospital for observation. She is still waiting for you, the great doctor, to come back to treat her!"

After hearing this, I felt a little anxious and said, "I will call our director to ask for leave now. This time I came back in a hurry and only took one day off!"

But the sister said seriously: "No need, brother, I'm joking with you! But grandma really wants to see you again!"

At that time, mobile phones had not yet begun to prevail, so I could only go to the town to ask our director for leave by using a public phone. My sister asked me to call for leave tomorrow on the grounds that the store was closed.

After dinner, I asked my sister about my grandmother’s situation.

My sister introduced: "Grandma's disease is a chronic disease, with hypertension and stroke sequelae, which cannot be cured. The doctor at the central hospital has asked my uncle to prepare for his grandmother's funeral, and I just hope to survive one day more."

My grandmother is thin, but she is a strong rural woman. My grandfather died of illness when I just remembered. At that time, my three uncles and aunt were not married yet. And when I was building a wedding house for my uncle, there was an accident, causing the death of a middle-aged man in the same village. The family was heavily in debt. My grandmother was still very tenacious and supported my third uncle to go to high school and then sent him to work abroad. She raised a lot of cattle and sheep and pigs herself. I followed my grandmother to herd sheep when she was young.

My second uncle's family is not in Mangling. When he got married, he became a son-in-law and went back to Mengjin, which is adjacent to our county.

The next morning, I ate the breakfast made by my sister, packed up my things, and went to the town with my sister to take a bus to Mengjin. While waiting for the bus, I borrowed the public phone from the convenience store to ask our director for leave.

Mengjin is next to the Yellow River, which is considered an ancient ferry crossing. On the bus, I took out the "Compendium of Materia Medica" and continued to read it.

A bearded uncle sitting next to him said, "The young man also went to Mengjin?"

I nodded and agreed, "Go to visit relatives."

He read the ancient book I was reading again and continued to ask: "Are you a doctor?"

My sister knew that I loved studying and was worried that it would affect me, so she answered for me: "My brother has already started working for a college graduate and is now working as a doctor in the Luoyang Mine Rescue Hospital!"

The passengers on the same bus all showed envious expressions after hearing this, and the uncle also praised: "It has a future, but do you doctors not treat them by themselves if they are sick?"

"Medical is not autonomous." I explained that this is the rule of doctors, but this old rule has gradually been broken by the new generation of doctors.

I couldn't answer, so I nodded.

The uncle was very talkative and shouted: "I heard that an old Taoist priest lived in seclusion in the mountains of Shanxi. He is at least 150 years old this year, and it has been reported on TV!"

I was also surprised after hearing this. It is rare for people to live to be 100 years old. I don’t know how this old Taoist priest lived to be 150 years old. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance to meet!

My grandmother is now supported by her second uncle. Her second uncle's family is in Tonggu Town, Mengjin County. After getting off the car, my sister and I went directly to the town central hospital.

I met my eldest uncle, second uncle and my parents in the ward.

Grandma was as thin as a bed, lying on the hospital bed with dripping, her eyes wide open, but she was not energetic.

I hurriedly greeted my uncles and parents, and then checked my grandmother's condition.

My mother hurriedly shouted to her grandmother: "The grandson you have been talking about is here to see you!"

Grandma understood, her eyes shone with light and said to me tremblingly: "I dreamed of your grandfather, and he said to pass on his knife to you!"

After hearing this, my uncle responded: "Is it the broken hatchet at home? It's already rusted, and I'm about to sell it as scrap iron!"

I hurriedly said, "Uncle, this broken knife is considered an old antique. It is worthless when sold. I will leave it to me for a thought."

Grandma trembled again and told her children: "It's time to take out your father's coffin, and he has stayed enough in that cave!"

My two uncles quickly agreed and said to me: "Can you come and help me when you move your grandfather's grave?"

My grandfather died of illness suddenly and could not be buried immediately after his death. He was placed in an abandoned cave in a small hill near my home. But when I thought of the gloomy and terrifying cave, I immediately refused.

My uncle didn't force me, but my parents started to blame me.

It’s not that I’m timid, but that I’m scared by it.

On the way to my second uncle's house after leaving the central hospital, my sister asked me why I refused to help my uncle move the grave for my grandfather?

I told the truth. When I was very young, my parents threw me to my grandmother's house and herded cattle and sheep with my grandmother. These sheep were honest, but a calf was very naughty and liked to run around. I chased him and unknowingly arrived in the small ravine where my grandfather was buried. It was already dark and the calf was gone. My uncle who rushed to the news asked me to search in the cave where my grandfather was placed, and he searched along the ravine.

The cave was pitch black and it was blocked by a bluestone slab. I stood in front of the stone slab, and my legs were trembling, knowing that my grandfather was behind the bluestone slab.

My grandfather had throat cancer and was hungry. Before he died, his eyes were already deep, thin and thin, and he died with his eyes open. He was lying in a dark coffin with a bell in his mouth. I looked into the coffin and it would be unforgettable for my life.

Although I have grown up now and studied medicine, have dissected many corpses and know that there are no ghosts in this world, I still dare not face my grandfather's coffin alone.

Because I only took one day off, I didn’t stay at my second uncle’s house for much. After lunch, I went to the central hospital to say goodbye to my grandmother, asked my parents for living expenses, and then took a bus back to Luoyang Hospital.

Lao Ma, who was in a car accident, had undergone surgery and was arranged in the orthopedic ward. In order to find out the word "尼" tattooed on his arm, I went to the orthopedic ward to see him.

Lao Ma's wife was slightly injured, and his son was black and fat, and he was also a driver, but he was a driver.

When Lao Ma saw me, he was a little confused. His wife hurriedly introduced me to the doctor who saved him. Of course, it was one of them. Lao Ma immediately gave me a grateful look and asked me to sit down beside the bed.

Lao Ma wanted to speak but stopped, so I hurriedly said, "You don't have to mind. I just asked casually, but I heard that the word "Shou" is common in ancient cauldrons, and there are also other things."

Lao Ma's wife hurriedly explained: "My old Ma is also trying to live a long life. My son has his partner's name tattooed on his arm, which is so cheesy!"

The pony who drove the excavator raised his arm and showed the name "Zhang Manxia".

But the word "Shou" on Lao Ma's arm is a bit different from the tattoo. It seems to have been branded. His eyes also regained their anger. The black air that had previously covered his head disappeared again, and the black eye sockets disappeared.
