581. Conceptual Design

"Where did this come from?" Zhang Zirong asked curiously.

"Haha, this was rented from Aurora and Zoo. Not only this, but the others are the same." Chen Shaojun couldn't help but smile.

During this period, he also calmed down and had been discussing the special effects issues of King Kong with the people of Aurora Special Effects.

It is not that simple to do a special effect.

For example, the most difficult problem involved in the special effects of King Kong is concept.

Concept design is usually used for reference in pre-production. For example, a monster appears in the film, King Kong's protagonist, King Kong is actually better. You can directly refer to the gorilla and modify it, but what other monsters look like

At this time, the director needs to say it in words. The concept designer of the special effects company draws it in the form of pictures according to the director's requirements, determines the image, and then hand it over to the three-dimensional special effects to create various lifelike monsters.

Then there is digital landscape painting, such as the panoramic view of an ancient city in a certain film, involving thousands of ancient houses or palaces, flowers, plants, trees, bridges and flowing water, etc. If three-dimensional software is required to be made, the cost will be very high, and it usually takes multiple people to cooperate to complete it. However, with a digital photographer, he can draw all of these into a picture by himself.

The same requires digital landscape painting in King Kong, such as the scenery of Skull Island, etc. It is impossible to use real photos to complete them all, but also through digital landscape painting and three-dimensional synthesis.

"We decided to use "miniature model" and "scene construction" combined with motion capture technology to achieve most of King Kong's special effects," explained Ouyang Ming, the head of Aurora Special Effects.

"We want to create a flesh-and-blood, emotional, and rich facial expressions, as well as the savage Tyrannosaurus in the jungle, the fantasy Skull Island, and the scenes that can be completely fake and real. These all need to be achieved through the technology of combining this type of solid model with later digital animation special effects."

"Does the scenes in the city streets also need special effects to make?" Zhang Zirong asked in confusion.

"Of course, after all, we cannot let Zhonghai Municipal Government agree to open real streets for us to shoot. During the shooting, there will be situations such as King Kong's destruction of buildings, etc., so we need to achieve these through miniature models and scene construction. After all, it is impossible for King Kong to climb to the top of the Mingzhu Building to shoot, and also create all kinds of damage." Hearing Zhang Zirong's problem, the other party explained with a smile.

"Our modelers will create a series of models, portray expressions at different moments on the same bone structure, and carefully portray them in details, such as the sunken forehead, the claw marks on the head, the twisted and deformed chin and even the muscles of the eyes that droop due to muscle atrophy. In this way, a rich emotional king is presented to the audience."

Zhang Zirong nodded. Regarding the special effects production, even if Wang Yifan made several special effects movies, he was not very clear about how it was produced. Usually he only cares whether he can achieve the effect he wants and how it is done. The so-called professionalism is specialized, so he cannot cover everything.

Similarly, Chen Shaojun is the same. Here, he mainly communicates with special effects technicians and tells them the effect they want.

The biggest difference between King Kong and many monster movies is that King Kong is flesh and blood, which requires King Kong to be given human-like emotions. However, King Kong is a monster and cannot speak. So how to express this emotion is naturally achieved through body language and facial expressions.

To this end, Aurora Special Effects are designed and designed according to Chen Shaojun's requirements, and each model will have different uses.

"In fact, it's okay to say that the protagonist of King Kong's gorilla is the most troublesome one, but the monsters on Skull Island, such as Tyrannosaurus, etc. Because we don't have physical references, the design progress is much worse."

In fact, this time when I came to Aurora Special Effects, Zhang Zirong was curious, and on the other hand, Wang Yifan was not actually here to find Chen Shaojun at all. Some of his new movies and Aurora Special Effects have been doing some things.

However, Chen Shaojun was pulled over to see the animals.

Then, Ouyang Ming took Wang Yifan and others to another design room.

"This is the first version of the exoskeleton mecha model we made according to your requirements." Ouyang Ming smiled and pointed at a silver-white exoskeleton mecha model in front of him.

"According to Director Wang's requirements, the exoskeleton is not a power armor. One of the important reasons is its highly modular main skeleton. Therefore, after calculations of the flexibility, the armed forces it carries, we have obtained relatively balanced relationship data, focusing on protecting the torso, forearms, and legs, which are more important for combat. This concept comes from the breastplate cavalry in the past when they were queuing to shoot. In order to increase flexibility, they only protected some of the main trunks." Ouyang Ming began to introduce to Wang Yifan and others.

This exoskeleton mecha looks a bit like Iron Man at first glance, but it is not, because this exoskeleton mecha is not like Iron Man, and its whole body is covered with iron bumps.

"Then the attack method. The main weapons used in the fire effect include gunpowder and Gaussian propulsion. Its fire control system and weapon insurance are integrated into the handle of the forearm weapon stand, and partly operated by button presses. In our design, this set of exoskeleton mecha has a total of 4 fire-point two-hand components that can be fired at the same time, as well as weapons stored in the telescopic robot arm on the back, small-caliber cannon and guided rocket nest group."

"In terms of weapons, according to Director Wang's requirements, the more guns and ammunition you bring, the better, and the more intense the firepower is in the same time, the better. So for the time being, we just reserved the gun position. When the second version is in, we can see a relatively complete exoskeleton mecha model." Ouyang Ming said with a smile.

The new movie that Wang Yifan is going to make is the film Edge of Tomorrow.

The reason why I chose the Edge of Tomorrow is that on the one hand, the magical change of this movie is easier to change into China. On the other hand, although the plot of this movie is simple, it is a very special science fiction movie.

Tomorrow's Edge is a suspense science fiction blockbuster, and at the same time, Wang Yifan liked the fighting style very much in his previous life because it was really cool.

The second is the issue of special effects. The special effects at the edge of tomorrow do not require any very advanced special effects technology. With the current domestic special effects technology level, it can be achieved.

Finally, although the outside world has such a high opinion of Wang Yifan, he knows his own affairs.

It is undoubtedly more suitable for him to be a cast movie like Edge of Tomorrow and a science fiction movie of this scale.

Everything must be progressive step by step. It doesn't matter if others fail, but at least he cannot defeat too badly
