Chapter 64 Green Screen

Zhang Ran only slept for three and a half hours, but he slept very well, even the best sleep he slept in a month.

After washing up, Zhang Ran came to the playground to urge students to make morning exercises.

In theory, the management of the class has already been on track, and the morning exercises can be left to the two class monitors to manage. However, Zhang Ran always feels that being a role model for teachers should play a demonstration role. If the teacher is still in bed and cannot get up, how can the students get up early?

After staring at Chen Gong for half an hour, Zhang Ran explained to Li Xinyue, went to the cafeteria to buy two buns, and walked towards Qingying Factory.

The others had not arrived yet, but Zhang Jingchu was already waiting at the door of the studio.

This girl is so interesting, she is the first one to come today!

Zhang Ran walked over, looked at Zhang Jingchu, and asked, "Jingchu, you came too early. There was no show for you in the morning, so it was not used so early. Have you had breakfast?"

Zhang Jingchu smiled and shook her head: "I'm not hungry. I've never seen a green screen shot. I want to come and see it early."

This is nothing to eat!

Zhang Ran bit the bun, took out his meal card, and slapped it into Zhang Jingchu's hand: "This is a meal card, go to our school cafeteria, our school breakfast is OK, I'll treat you today!"

Zhang Jingchu waved his hand quickly: "No, no!"

Zhang Ran said: "When I was in college, our teacher told us that there is an iron rule for making movies. The director will give it to the director. The director said he jumped off the building, but you can't say why the director jumped off the building? You can only ask, which floor should the director jumped off? Now Director Zhang Da asked you to have breakfast, what do you think you should say?"

Zhang Jingchu smiled and said, "Director, what should I eat?"

Zhang Ran laughed and said, "That's right. Eat whatever you want, go!"

"Thank you, director, then I'll go to have a meal!"

"Go, go, I'm a rare gift for you. Don't save me money!" Zhang Ran waved his hand and continued to bite the bun in his hand.

In fact, there is another sentence after Teacher Zhang Ran's words. He was embarrassed to say that the director asked me to take off his clothes. You can only ask, which one should the director ask me to take off? If you want to say this, Zhang Jingchu might think that Zhang Ran has ulterior motives.

After a few minutes, Zhang Jingchu returned to the studio with a bag of milk and a piece of cake. She thanked her and returned the meal card to Zhang Ran.

The crew members came to the scene one after another, and the quiet studio gradually became lively.

Today, the main filming of the elderly Cai Yan driving a speed car to save Cao Lin. This part of the scene is quite simple for the actors, with almost no lines, and you just need to sit in the car model and do the corresponding actions.

Because the actors are sitting in the car for performances and the car is still, there is no need to move. The art team directly starts to arrange the green screen, while Zhang Ran will call the photography team and the special effects team to discuss issues related to green screen shooting.

The green screen used for shooting quickly stood up, a large green cloth that was 4 meters high and 8 meters long was pulled flat. The green cloth used for shooting must be flattened and no wrinkles appear. The wrinkles mean shadows. When the shadows are cut in the later stage, they will be unclear and will leave black blocks.

Immediately afterwards, the green car model was pushed out, and the corners and contours of the car were covered with black tape. This was mainly to capture the outline and motion trajectory of the car, so as to facilitate synthesis with the 3D model. When films like "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" were used for motion capture, there were many small black dots on the actors' faces, and there were also many small black dots on the special jumpsuits worn on them, which was similar to the black tape that Zhang Ran and others put on. Of course, their skills were much more advanced than Zhang Ran and others.

In fact, before Zhang Ran's rebirth, green screen shooting was already a major domestic product in China. It was very common in domestic movies and TV series. Even ordinary movie enthusiasts use green screen technology to shoot micro-films. Ordinary people can even play with green screen when using a digital camera and pulling a piece of green cloth.

However, in 2001, green screen was still high-tech for domestic films. The first time domestic films used green screen technology was in 2004. As for which movie it was, many people may not have imagined it was Feng Xiaogang's "The World Without Thieves".

Most of the stories of "The World Without Thieves" take place on trains. The shooting cycle of such blockbusters takes at least three months. If real-life shooting is used, domestic railway transportation is so busy. How could it be possible to run a train specially used for filming on the railway in three months? "The World Without Thieves" is also a commercial blockbuster, which requires extremely high lighting requirements for photography and lighting, and it is difficult to achieve these real-life shootings. There is only one way in front of Feng Xiaogang, which is to shoot through green screen and then synthesize it through computers.

Finally, "The World Without Thieves" rented an 8,000-square-meter studio in Xiaotangshan, Peking, and built the "Creation of Nothing" train in the studio. The train is about 40 meters long and is divided into four compartments: soft sleeper, hard sleeper, dining car, and hard seat. Most of the scenes in "The World Without Thieves" are completed in these 4 compartments. After the filming is completed, the film is entered into the computer, the green background is deducted, and then replaced with the real scene taken in Gan 1su, and the movie becomes what the audience sees in the end.

The most difficult thing about green screen is to light up. First, light must be used to brighten the green screen. The light must be uniform and the brightness must be appropriate, otherwise the image cutting will not be clean in the later stage. At the same time, it is necessary to simulate the natural environment to light the actors. The light hitting the actors must match the background replaced in the future. The direction of the light must be consistent and the brightness must be consistent, otherwise it will not look harmonious.

Take "The World Without Thieves" as an example. Before Andy Lau and Ge You fought, they kissed Rene Liu on the top of the train. The main light source of the green screen in this scene is on the upper right. If the green screen is removed later and the natural background sun is on the left, it will be inconsistent and will be inappropriate. Therefore, before shooting the green screen, you must choose the background, determine the position of the light source, and simulate the light source to light according to the position of the light source.

While the lighting lantern and photographer were setting off the light, Zhang Ran briefly talked about the play to Cui Xinqin. However, the play itself is relatively simple and there is not much to say. What should be said will be finished soon.

At this time, a noise came from the door, and then a worker ran over: "Director Zhang, your students are here!"

Today, Zhang Ran planned to let the students see what green screen shooting was like, so that they could better understand the meaning of some training they usually do, nodding and said, "Let them come in!"

Accompanied by the chattering and talking, Li Xinyue and Zhou Zheng came over with the students in the class. Li Xinyue and Zhou Zheng smiled and nodded at Zhang Ran, while the students in the class surrounded Zhang Ran in the middle and said curiously.

"Teacher Zhang, that's the green screen? It's just a piece of green cloth!"

"Teacher Zhang, is that a car? Why did you make it like that? It looks so ugly!"

"This is how Hollywood movies are made?"

Zhang Ran's ears were buzzing with a quarrel, and his head was almost blown up. He shouted with a stern face: "What's the noise? This is the shooting scene, not the vegetable market, just calm me down!"

After the students calmed down, Zhang Ran continued: "I asked you to come today because I wanted you to see what the green screen shooting is going on. You are all staying obediently, not being allowed to talk casually, and not being allowed to make trouble! Otherwise, I will let Teacher Li take you back to the classroom!"

Soon, the preparations for each department were done, and Cui Xinqin also sat in the green car model, held the steering wheel with both hands, and the shooting was ready.

Zhang Ran picked up the step-by-step phone and began to issue a password: "Let's take the official photos, and each group will prepare!"

“Start up!”

"start!"

Cui Xinqin in the car model held the steering wheel with both hands, frowned slightly, and looked worried. Forty years have passed, Cai Yan has never forgotten that thing. It not only concerns Cao Lin's life and death, but also the life and death of a car of children. She cannot sit idly by, but she is not sure to change everything that will happen. Cao Lin saved the little girl many times before she succeeded, and she only had one chance. Once she missed it, she could not come again. She really had no confidence at all and was very worried.

"Stop!" Zhang Ran shouted. He was quite satisfied with Cui Xinqin's performance. He was worthy of being a teacher in the Beijing Film Academy Star Class. The performance was so speechless.

After confirming the sound and photography issues, Ning Hao nodded to Zhang Ran.

Zhang Ran announced loudly: "This lens is gone, and the next lens is ready!"

The camera moved quickly and moved to the next camera.

The next few shots are still driving shots, but the angles are different. They are shot from the side, from the back, and from the front. The shot is very simple, and the shooting is very smooth, and they are all done just once.

The most difficult shot of the whole film is the scene where Cai Yan drove a car from the air and parked in a hotel parking lot. This shot cannot be shot on the ground. It must be really allowed to descend from the air, so that the car can fly over and land from the air in the later stage.

Zhang Ran’s idea was to install the car model on the gimbal of a large rocker arm, the actor sat in the model, and the operator then supported the car model into mid-air, and then slowly landed from the air to the ground.

At this moment, the staff pushed a large rocker arm to the shooting site, which looked a bit like the crane's boom. Then the staff lifted the car model onto the rocker arm and began to install and fix it.

Taking advantage of the gap between staff installing models, Zhang Ran called the students in the class to an open space next to him. He looked at the students and said seriously: "What's going on when you see green screen shooting? This technology is widely used in the United States and is used in TV series. There are still relatively few in China now, but with the development of film technology, there will be more and more in China. In the future, your acting will often be like this. There is no real scene, just a big green cloth, and even your opponents are fake, but you still have to show the most real feeling and perform the show. Now you should understand that the training we have done these days is meaningless, right?"

The students in the class were nodding. These days, Zhang Ran has been asking everyone to do simple exercises without physical movements, such as nailing buttons, opening the door, washing clothes, etc., and dozens of times, which is quite boring. They didn't understand it at first, but now they all understand the meaning of it.

(I have something to do today, it's even later. Thanks to Ma Yeliang for his reward, please collect it, please recommend it!)
