Second battle

Today's third update, please recommend and subscribe!

DreamWorks vs. Pixar vs. Disney is the competitive landscape of the American animation market today. Of course, there is no pure struggle between each other at the moment. For example, DreamWorks is responsible for producing cartoons, but this year's distribution rights are under Paramount and will be owned by Disney starting next year; for example, Pixar's current works are all jointly issued by Studio 11; Disney has now retreated to the second line in the computer three-dimensional animation market, and even lost a position than Blue Sky Studio. However, Disney has signed a cooperation agreement with the rookie lighting entertainment company, placing all hopes on Lighting Entertainment.

In fact, there is no personal grudge between DreamWorks and Disney, strictly speaking, it is just a competition for the animation department in the American film market. At present, Pixar has the upper hand, DreamWorks has returned to courage, and Disney has recovered, but the overall situation is still unknown.

"Toy Story 3" defeated "Monster Shrek 4" and this is just a purely commercial victory; but the showdown between "Toy Story 3" and "Despicable Me" has more meanings worth exploring.

Although Disney's relationship with Studio 11 has been rapidly warming over the past year, Evan Bell's refusal to star in "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" did not cause further rupture of the relationship between the two parties. Instead, it ended the cooperative relationship in a harmonious situation. "Alice in Wonderland" entered Disney from Studio 11, which also showed the easing of the current relationship between the two parties, not to mention the role played by ABC TV as a lubricant.

At the beginning of this year, there were even rumors that Disney would withdraw from Hulu.com's cooperation and reached an agreement with youtube. In the past two years, Hulu.com's operations have entered the track. However, the current market share is only less than two percentage points, which makes the opposing alliances barely keep their losses. It is not easy to achieve profits. In fact, among the world's video websites, only youtube, can make profits, and other video websites including Google and Hulu.com are still struggling.

The opposition league is now in name only, and NBC TV is in a mess and can't take care of themselves. The "x factor" can accomplish their self-salvation is still an unknown x factor; after Universal Music was defeated for three consecutive years, its momentum is no longer useful as it was, and its melancholy mood can no longer cause any more trouble when it is disbanded; Universal Pictures and Disney both began to show goodwill to Studio 11. Even if it is not a cooperation, at least don't continue to deteriorate the relationship.

Under such circumstances, this rumor at the beginning of the year cannot be considered groundless. Therefore, the relationship between Disney and Studio 11 is indeed improving, and there are no absolute enemies in the mall. This statement is really correct.

But no one will deny it. The involvement of the three of Eleventh Studios, Pixar and Disney has been an indelible deal in the Hollywood acquisition case. Now, Eleventh Studios has joined hands with Pixar to launch "Toy Story 3" to confront Disney's comeback "Despicable Me". How could people not be excited?

In the third week of June, the second battle between "Despicable Me" and "Toy Story 3" officially kicked off!

In addition to "Despicable Me", the work released this week also has a movie adapted from the DC comic "West Hero Jonah Hax", which Warner Bros. invested 47 million yuan. However, the cast includes last year's Oscar Best Supporting Actor winner Josh Brolin, as well as Megan Fox, John Malkovic, Michael Fassbender, Michael Shannon and other powerful and popular actors. It can be said that they have a great background.

Of course, the focus of this week is always "despicable me". What kind of performance can this work that Disney and Lighting Entertainment work together for the first time? At the same time, when "Monster Shrek 4" and "Toy Story 3" have squeezed the surplus value of the entire film market to a very small extent, the box office can be resurrected, which has attracted the attention of the entire film market indiscriminately.

Three thousand five hundred theaters were released, with a single studio of $16,000, and "Despicable Me" made a good start with a box office of $56 million!

Although this result cannot be compared with "Monster Shrek 4" and "Toy Story 3", "Despicable Me" relied on its strong reputation and completely different animation styles from Pixar and DreamWorks to successfully grab a piece of cake. The premiere results are "Monster Electric Power Company", "Kung Fu Panda", "Radio Story" and "Training the Dragon" are all of the same level works, and these works eventually exceeded 200 million in box office. So "Despicable Me" also has great hope to continue this fine tradition.

More importantly, "Despicable Me" is the first work of Lighting Entertainment. And it is indeed worth celebrating that it was able to achieve such outstanding results by working with Disney for the first time. And the outstanding report card in reputation has even put the box office numbers on a layer of dazzling gold.

The media review scored 72 points, and the freshness of Rotten Tomatoes is 80%, bathed in a warm and gorgeous praise. Although it cannot be compared with the extraordinary results of "Toy Story 3", compared with "Monster Shrek 4", this result is undoubtedly enviable. "Founding jokes, sincere and imaginative influence, just like all children's classic works, this work creates a small, weird but cute world view, and the performance of this film is enough to make people admire it!"

After being bombarded by DreamWorks and Pixar, Lighting Entertainment launched the "Despicable Me", which reflects joy, anger, sorrow and happiness from the perspective of a villain, and continues the subversive perspective of DreamWorks. At the same time, in the main theme of the story, Pixar's warm routine of "children change everything" was integrated into the plot. It can be said that this is a work that survives in the cracks between Pixar and DreamWorks, but Lighting Entertainment successfully cooked this model into a delicate and sweet visual feast, winning the love of the entire market.

There is no doubt that "despicable me" achieved a win-win situation in both box office and reputation. Lighting Entertainment, which had no works released before, was like the Blue Sky Studio that launched the "Ice Age" that year, emerged as a comet. However, compared to Blue Sky Studio which relied on the 20th Century Fox, the Lighting Entertainment, which climbed the big tree of Disney, obviously has a brighter prospect.

After receiving the help of Lighting Entertainment, Disney finally announced the rebirth of Phoenix. After three years, it regained its own voice in the competition in the computer three-dimensional animation market. More importantly, "Despicable Me" only invested 70 million US dollars. Lighting Entertainment is a "money-saving" studio, just like Blue Sky Studio. Compared to the $200 million spent on Pixar to produce "Toy Story 3", this is undoubtedly a happy news for Disney.

Robert Eagle can finally breathe a sigh of relief. He decisively snatched the Lighting Entertainment cooperation agreement from Universal Pictures, but now it has been rewarded. The comfort of the box office performance is only part of it. The most important thing is that the style and quality of the Lighting Entertainment have been recognized by the industry, which is a more precious asset for Disney than anything else.

Faced with the fierce impact of "Despicable Me", "Toy Story 3" obviously relied on its strong reputation to show a more calm attitude than "Monster Shrek 4". Of course, "Toy Story 3" hits "Monster Shrek 4" and "Despicable Me" hits "Toy Story 3", and this level of impact is also noticed, but in the end, "Toy Story 3" still delivered an answer that satisfies everyone.

Thirty-five percent of the box office decline made "Toy Story 3" win a weekend box office of 48 million US dollars in the third week of its release. Not only did it not lose the least in the confrontation with "Despicable Me", but also the accumulated box office reached 340 million US dollars! The threshold of 400 million is already close!

The second battle came to an end. "I'm a despicable me" won the North American box office rankings in the second week of June with a score of 56 million US dollars, while "Toy Story 3" occupied the runner-up position with a box office of 48 million without any concessions. This can definitely be described as a "win-win".

"Despicable Me" won beautifully and started a turnaround battle for Disney in terms of reputation and box office. It can be imagined that Disney, which received help from lighting and entertainment, finally got out of the shadow of losing Pixar and took another step in the animation market; "Toy Story 3" was outstanding, and in the third week of release, facing the impact of similar works, it was perfect for the 35% decline. The perfect match between Pixar and Studio 11 is still invincible.

As for the "Monster Shrek 4" this week, it delivered a worthy answer with a drop of 40%. The weekend box office was 6 million US dollars, and the cumulative box office reached 210 million US dollars. Compared with the outstanding performance of Pixar and Disney, the performance of "Monster Shrek 4" can only be said to be far lower than expected. Although the results are still good, they are difficult to satisfy.

In this frontal contest, although the "despicable me" still needs to be seen in long-term performance, overall, DreamWorks still lost to two competitors, Pixar's performance was still strong, and Disney suddenly looked up and recovered. Of course, DreamWorks' "Training the Dragon" at the beginning of the year must not be missed. This work is also a masterpiece that can completely compete with "despicable me", so DreamWorks is still not to be underestimated.

Judging from the current situation, Pixar is still leading the way, but the pace of DreamWorks and Disney have accelerated. I believe the future lively scene of the animation market is just around the corner.
