Section 5 Preliminary
"Papapapapapapapa!" The palms of both hands touched three times in a row, and finally closed at the tip of the nose. Kenichi Kato and his wife Yuriko lowered their heads deeply to pray for their son who was far away in the heavenly kingdom. In the ethereal and cold Cangjie Temple, there was only a silence. The cold wind blowing in through the crack of the door blew the candles burning on the incense table back and forth.
Reiko Kato raised her eyelids and glanced at her parents, but saw that the two of them were still pious. She quickly lowered her head and looked serious. She was thinking in her heart that she didn't know when this mourning would end? The weather was so cold! The 16-year-old girl only felt that her hands were about to freeze!
Fortunately, Kato stood up, helped his wife up first, and then bowed to the monks in the temple responsible for mourning, and then walked out of the door with his wife and daughter.
As soon as he left the temple, Reiko immediately regained her lively nature. It seemed that the cold feeling was just in the temple. It was like a warm spring outside. Looking at her daughter's lively figure and silver bell-like voice, thinking of her son who could never meet again, Kato Yuriko's eyes were wet again for no reason!
Kato didn't notice his wife's abnormality, he tightened his coat and accelerated his pace: "Hey, hurry up!"
"Ah, Hi," replied respectfully, Yuriko followed in the footsteps of her husband and daughter.
After getting off the tram, the three of them slowly walked towards the house: "Don't you need to work today?"
"Well, I have already said hello to Tanakakun. I won't go today."
Before he finished speaking, he heard Renzi cheering and ran forward: "Mr. Nishio... Are there any new comics for Renzi to see?"
Only then did Kato see that it was his colleague who was smiling with his daughter, Nishio Yuki, who was responsible for editing and reviewing the manuscript. When the latter saw him approaching, he didn't care about answering with Miss Renzi, and quickly came forward: "Thank you for your hard work!"
"Ah, thank you for your hard work." Kato knew that if it was not a very urgent situation, Nishio would not have found her home, so she was not polite at the moment: "Is there any sudden situation?"
"Yes. I received a special work, and I and Tanaka-kun cannot decide. I come and ask you to review it."
"So, please come in."
"Yes." Nishio agreed, and then said hello to Mrs. Kato: "I've taken the liberty to visit and disturb you."
"Where, where..." The Japanese etiquette was indeed very thoughtful. Yuriko Kato bowed and replied softly. In front, Reiko had already opened the door.
The men sat in the living room separately, and the two ladies boiled water while preparing lunch - when this time comes, how can they not leave guests for dinner?
Facing Kenichi Kato, who was sitting as standard as the third chief of the Army, Nishio respectfully took out a thick stack of paper from the briefcase he carried with him and handed it over, still explaining: "I was originally going to wait until my seniors went to work for you to review it formally, but this time the printing of "School Club" is urgent, so I can only take the initiative to come to the door." (Note 1)
Kato habitually wiped the mustache on his upper lip, but instead of following the topic of Nishio, he took the paper straight: "Marie ンビスケット?"
"Yes. Tanaka and I have read it once, this is based on..."
"I know what this is." Kato even interrupted him a little roughly, and only looked around. The old man, who is known as the most experienced editor-in-chief of "School Club", frowned: "What, is it colorful?"
"Yes, senior!" Nishio was not angry at the latter's rudeness to himself, but his attitude became even more respectful: "If you print according to the author's intentions, it is afraid that the cost will be about twice as high as that of ordinary publications."
"……………” Kato stopped talking, but focused all his attention on the picture book.
The painting is very thick, and I counted roughly, about 80 pages. According to the 4 pictures on each page, there are more than 300 pictures, and each picture is colored by the author. With his almost innate understanding of drawings, Kato's heart has a certain favorable impression of the author who doesn't know his age and experience: this is definitely not a job that can be completed in one day or two days!
Looking at the specific painting techniques, it is very different from the painting methods I have always been familiar with. The characters' images are still completed with sketch strokes, but the overall style is very different. You should know that in Japan, when the war just ended, whether it is a comic work for children or a formal brush for adults to appreciate, it is filled with a gloomy and dark atmosphere passed down from the Middle Ages - this painting method at that time was become a "Benge School". However, the painting method of this picture is a bit similar to the technique of the famous cartoonist Osamu Tezuka, but it is a bit different. Osamu Tezuka's painting method is not so mature! This is Kato's first feeling after reading "Osamu Tezuka"!
First of all, the shape and lines of the characters are not the style of thick lines that any cartoonist today possesses. From Kato's professional perspective, in order to express the beauty of the human body, this picture actually uses some quite exaggerated painting methods, that is, to make some deformations in appropriate parts and use some exaggerated techniques to lengthen the figure of the characters. At first glance, compared with the paintings commonly used by painters that are completely according to the proportion of the human body, it simply makes the human body look a little deformed. However, this deformation is based on the basic structure of the human body.
Through some small details found in the drawing, Kato knew that the author, who had never met, had reached a very accurate level of grasp of the role. Not to mention anything else, you can see it by looking at the eyes of the female characters in the picture. The only heroine in the book is A Le. Her big eyes, lips, eyebrows, and chin lines are soft, and her feminine appearance makes Kato, a senior editor who is used to reading comics, feel more and more interested.
The other male characters and the elderly characters are very different from the popular painting methods today: "...A lot of Western sketch styles have been added to the pure Japanese painting method?" Kato put down the painting when he saw it halfway.
"Eh?" Nishio didn't hear clearly: "What do you mean by senior?"
Kato didn't speak. He had a habit of guessing the writer's situation based on the content displayed by the brush when he saw a new writer's work, and he always made it! This time was no exception. According to his judgment, this author should have received very professional art and drawing training, and he is very likely to have overseas learning experience. He filtered the cartoonist he was familiar with in his mind, and it seemed that he could not match the album.
Nishio saw his slightly depressed face and spoke timidly: "Senior? Do you think?"
"Hey, is there no tea yet?"
"Ah, here, here!" He agreed quickly, Yuriko walked over from the kitchen with a red painted tea tray: "I'm sorry, I've been waiting for a long time!"
"Ah, it's rude." Nishio didn't dare to hold her back, so she quickly got up, took the tea tray from the hostess' hand and put it in.
Kato picked up the teacup and blew a few sips of heat, and slowly drank it. It seemed difficult to make a decision on this weird work: "Dad, what are you doing? Mr. Nishio, has he brought me a new class "School Club"?"
"Is it Miss Renzi?" Nishio liked this 16-year-old girl very much and scratched her head embarrassedly: "I'm sorry, the school children's club has not yet decided on the final manuscript for this issue! When it is published, I will definitely send it to Miss Renzi, okay?"
Kato thought about it and finally made a decision: "Niyao, this issue of manuscripts..."
"yes!"
"Don't add this picture to the next issue for the time being. Before the next issue, contact the author and listen to his opinions. If you have any opinions on publishing, of course, there are also issues with royalties."
"Yes, sir."
"Well, if you can, find the author..." As he spoke, the old man looked through the picture book: "Do you have no name and address?"
"Some, on the cover sent with the painting, it seems like a guy named Ai Fei."
"Ai...Fei?" Lianzi laughed: "How could there be such a strange name? It's not a pseudonym, right?"
"Maybe it?" Nishio smiled and said, "Then, I won't bother you. After I go back, I will contact the author immediately. Follow his advice as my senior."
