Chapter 489 Solar Power Station

December 2009.

Northern California solar companies are getting the results they want.

The Department of Energy agreed to build a power station in Qiongzhou, but all costs were borne independently by the Northern California company and were not counted as government cooperation projects.

In order to show Z's sincerity, relevant departments helped them acquire land in Qiongzhou and also provided great help.

Lingshui County, located in the southern part of Qiongzhou Province, has prepared ten square kilometers of tidal flats, slopes and other land that is not conducive to development for the Northern California Solar Energy Company for the construction of solar power plants.

Qiongzhou is the southernmost province in my country.

The island has a total area of 33,900 square kilometers, and its outline is shaped like a large oval pear.

Although geographically speaking, Qiongzhou also belongs to the south, and is only separated from Guangdong by a strait.

But in fact, Qiongzhou's economic status in our country has not received much attention since ancient times.

In ancient times, this place was said to be the end of the world, and it was the farthest and poorest place in the south.

It has always been used as a place of exile for prisoners.

In modern times, Qiongzhou was under the jurisdiction of Guangdong.

It was not until 1988 that Qiongzhou was officially established as a province.

It is also a southern province. Due to the backward infrastructure here, there are many local ethnic minorities.

Therefore, economic development has been unable to get on the right track.

In the 1990s, the main economic pillar here was still agriculture.

As the southernmost and only tropical island region in my country, Qiongzhou Island is one of the few unpolluted areas in the world.

The local tourism resources are very rich.

Many people have heard of the "Four Yas" and come here one after another to play in the water and enjoy sunbathing on the beach.

As a result, tourism has gradually become one of Qiongzhou’s pillar industries.

In the late 1990s, Qiongzhou invested heavily in infrastructure construction. The round-island expressway was completed and opened to traffic, and a network of urban and rural roads was also built.

With the put into operation of the cross-sea railway bridge and the Guangdong-Hai Bridge connecting Qiongzhou Island and the mainland, the economy finally showed signs of rapid development.

At the same time, in order to vigorously support Qiongzhou’s economic construction, the state introduced some high-tech industries to Qiongzhou Island.

The industrial model that originally focused on resource development, hydropower construction, and fishery and aquatic product processing has been upgraded to a higher level.

Many biomedicine, aerospace, electronics, automobile and foreign-funded enterprises have visited Qiongzhou successively to inspect and open factories.

However, Qiongzhou's infrastructure construction started late after all.

In particular, power supply cannot keep up with the speed of economic development and has become a weakness restricting the province's industrial and commercial development.

The topography of Qiongzhou is that it is high in the middle and low on all sides.

Water resources are very abundant.

Therefore, when planning and construction were originally planned, many large and small hydropower stations were built based on the development of local water resources.

Although the Qiongzhou area is rich in water resources, the mountains are not very high, the height is limited, and the use of water and electricity is also greatly restricted.

Moreover, because it is located in the tropics, water evaporates very quickly. In many cases, there is not enough water flow to generate electricity.

Therefore, Qiongzhou’s power supply mainly relies on thermal power plants.

Although Qiongzhou is rich in various mineral resources, it has important strategic resources such as oil and natural gas.

However, the coal mines used for thermal power generation in Qiongzhou still have to be transported from other places.

Not to mention that thermal power generation will cause pollution to Qiongzhou, a natural tourist resort. Even if it is necessary to build a large thermal power station, it will also require long distances to transport raw materials, which is not easy.

The Qiongzhou Power Grid generates 16 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year, but it is still far from meeting the economic needs of the province, so it has to allocate power from the Guangdong and other Southern Power Grids.

It is precisely because of this that after research and discussion, it was decided to arrange for the Northern California Solar Energy Company to settle in Qiongzhou.

Based on their calculation of two billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per square kilometer per year, the annual power generation capacity of five square kilometers can reach 10 billion kilowatt-hours. Coupled with the power grid, it can basically meet the power supply of the entire province.

By not asking for electricity, they can also relax the demand for electricity in places such as the Pearl River Delta and alleviate the tight power supply situation.

This is the idea of the Department of Energy, and they are afraid that they are wishful thinking.

Therefore, we were cautious when soliciting opinions from Northern California solar companies.

After all, this is a one-time investment.

If their solar power station is not built, there will naturally be nothing to say.

However, once it is completed and put into use, sufficient power supply will inevitably promote the rapid economic development of Qiongzhou.

After the economy develops, it will not be so easy for Northern California solar companies to find cheap land and expand the scale of power stations.

This is equivalent to limiting the power supply of the Northern California Solar Company to Qiongzhou, and at most supplying Guangdong's power needs to a small extent.

After it is completed and put into production, there will be no problem in surviving.

All the electricity can be absorbed by Qiongzhou locally, but if we want to expand our business and expand power supply to the entire southern region, this area is obviously not enough.

Moreover, there is no possibility of further expansion.

Representatives from Party Z and members of the board of directors of the Northern California Solar Energy Company toasted each other at the wine table. When everyone was in high spirits, they tentatively revealed their arrangements.

"Qiongzhou?"

“It’s a very nice place! Now we feel relieved, hahahaha!”

When they heard that Party Z had chosen the place for them, all the board members stopped drinking. Regardless of the ongoing banquet, they immediately asked someone to bring the map for comparison.

These days, they also studied many construction sites.

Qiongzhou is their first choice.

Since they want to carry out large-scale development in China, of course they will seriously study China's solar energy resources.

In China, the region with the largest solar energy resources is the west, which is also the region with the second largest solar energy resources in the world, with a daily radiation amount of 7 kilowatt-hours per square meter.

This chapter is not over yet, please click on the next page to continue reading! Qiongzhou only belongs to the third-class solar energy area.

However, it is close to the most economically developed areas in China, so it can sell electricity at a higher price without having to transmit electricity over long distances.

Relatively speaking, under the same cost, they are still more inclined to choose Qiongzhou.

A banquet where everyone is happy.

The Northern California Solar Energy Company obtained their expected construction site and was not willing to delay for a quarter of an hour. Accompanied by relevant personnel, they immediately set off for Lingshui, Qiongzhou.

We are ready to start construction of a solar power station immediately.

On the first day they arrived in Lingshui, they left their belongings at the hotel, and then went to check out the location of the future solar power station construction without stopping.

Stand high.

Looking around, there are tidal flats and slopes everywhere.

The closer the land is to the sea, the more serious the salinization is.

Cannot be used for farming.

Within this range, there are not many homes and only a few small fishing villages.

Stretching from the beach to the land, there are hills tens of meters high everywhere, stretching for four to five kilometers.

Standing on the hills, you can see endless views.

There was scorching sunshine above our heads, and the beach in the distance was like a long white strip, only blocked by mountains dozens of kilometers away.

Forming a small bay.

"Mr. Thomas, what do you think of this land?"

"In the 1990s, there were real estate developers who built a group of villas here. Later, because they could not be sold, they fell into disrepair, so it turned into the dilapidated appearance it has now."

The local Lingshui County escort said to Thomas with a smile.

Thomas looked at the rolling hills with an ugly expression on his face.

He snorted coldly, pointed at the hills several tens of meters high, and said dissatisfiedly: "Mr. Wang, is this the land you chose for us?"

"Look, they are all undulating hills! How do we place our solar arrays?"

"Also, although these hills are not high, as the angle of the sun changes, they will block part of the sunlight. How will our solar panels receive solar energy?"

"The ten square kilometers of land you allocated to us, except for the three or four square kilometers near the seaside, which is flat salt-alkali land, the rest are basically hills like this."

"Actually, we only get seven or eight square kilometers of land at most. How can this be done?"

Representatives from the Ministry of Energy also leaned into the ears of the escorts from Lingshui County and asked in a low voice: "What's going on with you? Didn't I tell you that enough land should be arranged for them?"

"How do you want people to use these hills?"

"Even if you don't understand solar energy, you should know that if the sun doesn't shine, everything is in vain, right?"

The escort from Lingshui County also smiled bitterly and said: "Director Wang, you don't know that although our economic development in Qiongzhou is relatively slow, we still have a population of 10 million."

"It sounds like there are a lot of open spaces, but in fact they are all very scattered."

"Moreover, we have many ethnic minorities here, and they occupy land in the east and west, so it's not easy for us to interfere."

"We have open space, not to mention ten square kilometers, even one hundred square kilometers, but if we want to connect it together, the only thing we need is this tidal flat and salt-alkali land."

Director Wang frowned, looked around, and said thoughtfully: "How about we give them all the salt-alkali land on the seashore? I think it's about ten or twenty square kilometers."

"No! Director Wang, although this saline-alkali land is almost ten kilometers long and two or three kilometers wide, Baoting County next door has already planned it and approved a rubber factory..."

The escort in Lingshui County complained in embarrassment.

"Then what should we do? We promised them that we would choose a suitable piece of land for them! Aren't you trying to undermine me?" Director Wang also looked depressed and said angrily:

"I have informed you a long time ago that this is a national key energy project, and the land must be prepared for us! Now, what do you call this thing?"
