Chapter 371 Trial(1/2)

Author: Mosaic Melancholy

Fights were fought and people were fished out.

But what Chen Jianqiu is thinking about now is that these things are by no means accidental.

Whenever something like this happens, it's mostly politicians who are behind it.

This is a card.

The best card Scott could come up with.

Sure enough, in the next week.

In various parts of New Mexico, some frictions began to occur between white people and local Chinese.

These things often start with the provocation of a few white people.

The newspapers controlled by the Republican Party also followed suit and began to report at length on these frictions.

They deliberately exaggerated the seriousness of the matter, exaggerated the impact of the matter and vilified the image of the Chinese people.

For example, the Chinese in New Mexico are depriving local white workers and even Mexican workers of employment opportunities.

For another example, the living habits of these Chinese workers have caused trouble to the people of New Mexico.

Many of them are clichés, just like those published in California newspapers before.

It's just that they kept pace with the times and added it to the bill, claiming that the citizenship status of these Chinese was unknown and should be investigated.

Scott wanted to turn New Mexico into a second California.

His plan is divided into several steps.

The first step is to send people to create trouble, and then have Republican newspapers fan the flames.

The second step is to lead people to give speeches everywhere, promote the "yellow peril theory", and point the contradiction directly at the connivance of Chen Jianqiu and the Democratic Party.

The third step is to mobilize the public and even the militia to further create friction around Roswell.

Based on his understanding of Chen Jianqiu, this man would never swallow his anger, but whether he directly led the militia to take action or united with Mexico.

The federal troops stationed near him will take care of him.

Then no one will dare to protect him.

Although this move may cause chaos in New Mexico, it may also kill many people.

But Scott didn't care.

What is he afraid of when there are federal troops wiping his butt?

Scott thought the plan was flawless.

However, what he never expected was that this plan would always stop at the first step.

Because something more exciting than a Chinese fight attracted the attention of everyone in New Mexico.

The current state legislator, Republican leader, and leader of the Santa Fe political group, Scott, was sued by a Mexican businessman.

He was accused of killing his father.

This matter was disclosed in the Santa Fe Star-Ledger and other Democratic newspapers.

These newspapers began to publish Scott's accusations one after another, and only Scott's accusations.

All the spearheads are focused on Scott alone.

More and more people are suing him, like mushrooms after a spring rain, appearing in Santa Fe, Albuquerque and other places at the same time.

As the reports deepened, people discovered that the congressman's crimes were so numerous that they involved corruption, bribery, kidnapping, murder, etc., and it could not be published in a week or two.

Scott wasn't worried about it at first.

Because the judges in several big cities in New Mexico are his people.

He began to let the newspapers he controlled fight back just like he had done with previous slanders.

But this actually contributed to the fermentation of the incident itself.

Scott felt a little strange, so he asked his subordinates to collect the newspapers and put them in his hands.

The more he read those reports, the more frightened he became.

It is more detailed and accurate than the previous reports on the governor.

In the weeks that followed, it wasn't just Democratic newspapers that were at war.

In the central squares of various cities, people appeared in speeches, criticizing the political corruption in New Mexico.

Even for old fools like Scott, not only have murderers not been brought to justice, they have been able to control state politics for many years.

This is a disgrace to American democracy!

Everything started to develop in an uncontrollable direction.

Public dissatisfaction boiled, public opinion turned, and he, Scott, became the target of public criticism and became a street rat.

Even theaters in Santa Fe began rehearsing and performing stories about Scott.

Anyway, the details were written clearly in the newspaper, and after a little processing, they turned into a script.

Scolding Scott is now a traffic password, and tickets are easy to sell.

Scott began to receive court appearance notices one after another.

Because the evidence provided by the plaintiffs was too sufficient, they had no choice but to file a case.

At the beginning, with the help of a lawyer, he could handle it calmly, but later, he was just exhausted.

Today, Scott has to face the hearing of his case in the state Supreme Court.

It was a Democratic state prosecutor who prosecuted him.

"I have said that these accusations are unreasonable. My lawyer will explain to the court whether the chain of evidence is logical."

Scott stood in the dock, his expression a little tired, but there was a hint of arrogance in his words.

This caused a wave of dissatisfaction on the part of the jury.

This old man used to be out of reach in the eyes of most of them.

But now you are involved in a lawsuit, what the hell?

Scott's lawyer cleared his throat:

"As my client said, these evidences do not prove the crimes he committed. I will explain them to the court one by one below."

He began to defend his case point by point.

According to him, the prosecutors' accusations of robbery and murder all mentioned a lawyer named Dylan.

Without his testimony, these accusations would be difficult to establish, and they would be considered unsupported.

"Where is this lawyer now?" the judge asked.

"He resigned a long time ago. I haven't seen him for a long time. I don't know exactly where he went," Scott said.

There was a sneer on the corner of his mouth.

This man died a long time ago, and I don’t even know where his body is buried. Where are you going to find him?

The prosecutor raised his hand toward the judge:

"Your Honor, he almost died, but he is still alive!"

A man wearing a suit and a top hat walked into the court under the gaze of everyone.

He walked to the witness stand and took off his hat.

Scott's eyes froze.

Who is this person, if not Lawyer Dylan?

"Dear Judge, I am Dylan. Most of the charges submitted by the prosecutor were done under Scott's instruction or provided him with advice!"

Dylan said slowly while handing his ID to the staff.

"I protest! The prosecution provided new witnesses without communication, and we cannot accept it!" Scott's lawyer shouted.

However, the judge said that the protest was invalid and motioned for Dylan to continue speaking.

Dylan looked at Scott's lawyer, his eyes cold and scary:

"I was his lawyer in the past, but just three years ago, he tried to kill me!"

Scott's lawyer was a little at a loss. He glanced at Scott and felt that this man was a bit strange.

Scott closed his eyes dejectedly.

This lawsuit can no longer be fought.

In the end, the Republican leader was found guilty on almost all of his charges.

He was thrown into prison.
