Chapter 22 "Flying Windfall" (22) Terminal Illness

Chapter 22 "Windfall" (22) Terminal Illness

At night, in a farmhouse on the outskirts of York City, a family sat around the living room. The lights were dim and the atmosphere seemed a bit depressing.

There is a crumpled pathology report on the table, with small words printed on the conclusion column:

"Stage 2 Uremia in Children."

Albert, a middle-aged man with a big beard, was leaning on the ragged leather sofa, holding a cheap, low-quality cigarette in his mouth, his eyelids were drooped, and he was listless.

"Brother, just think of it as my sister begging you, please accept this money!" Anna tore open the newspaper cover and found a stack of banknotes inside.

Albert shook his head slowly: "No, it's not easy for you and Roy either."

"We are much better than before. Roy met a noble man, a wealthy collector, and admired his paintings very much. You see, we both use wireless communicators."

Anna's parents also advised: "Albert, the whole family should help each other, and then return the money to your sister and brother-in-law after earning money."

"Ahem..." Albert took a puff of cigarette and choked and coughed:

"You don't understand. Little Lisa's illness is a bottomless pit. She needs long-term dialysis and blood treatment. I can deal with it by myself. Rich people have their own considerations, and poor people have their own make-dos. It depends on whether this child's life is strong or not."

"Brother! What bastard words are you saying!" Anna was a little angry, her pretty face turned red: "Is this what a father should say? It's so irresponsible!"

"What can I do!" Albert shouted: "You think I don't love Lisa? She is my lifeblood! The reason for my survival!

When I got divorced, in order to retain my custody rights, I chose to leave the house. For her, I worked overtime three times a week, and also found a part-time night shift. I was as tired as a damn dog, but who would have thought that I would encounter such bad luck?

thing!"

"You can't escape if you encounter it. Brother, take this money and let's face it bravely together!"

"Lisa is my daughter, and I decide her fate!"

"Okay, okay, brothers and sisters, what's the fuss about..."

Seeing his future father-in-law and mother-in-law winking at him, Roy said seriously:

"Brother Albert, it's not easy for you to go to work and take care of a child on your own. Little Lisa is so cute. She is such a beauty. I like her the most. How can I watch this child suffer.

Brother, don’t worry, I will pay for it, we won’t need dialysis, we will just replace it with the most advanced artificial kidney.”

"Thank you for your kindness, good brother, I would rather give her my kidney."

"Don't be stupid, brother, the doctor has already said it, no, millions of people are waiting for kidney donors every year, and only one percent of the lucky ones can survive the day of transplant, and more than half of them die.

rejection and various complications, so the best option is to transplant an artificial kidney."

"Those things cultivated through genetic engineering... have a high chance of failure. After all, the risks of children's surgery are high. Don't try to persuade me. I know that this money was pieced together by the few of you. All your family assets,

I have to deal with my own problems on my own, and conservative treatment is the best. Farewell!"

Albert was a stubborn man. He put out his cigarette, drank some water, picked up his clothes and walked out of the door in a hurry.

The old couple looked gloomy and lamented again and again. Anna went to persuade him. Roy stared at the stack of money on the table and thought:

(The root cause is that I am afraid of poverty.

Albert, this guy, doesn’t believe that I can easily come up with this money. He is a man and would rather carry it on his own than harm his family.)

This visit was obviously not pleasant. Anna's parents loved Roy very much and prepared sumptuous dishes for him every time. But this time, their stomachs were still empty when they came out.

"Let's find a place to eat something, my stomach is growling."

Ana was still wiping tears: "I'm not in the mood."

"I know you are sad about Lisa. That child is really lovable.

I kept my word. I paid for her surgery. When I was free, I would pick her up from school. I did this without telling your brother. If the surgery really failed, all the resentment and anger would be mine.

Come and carry it.”

"Roy!"

Anna hugged her lover tightly like a koala hugging a eucalyptus tree.

"Okay, don't cry. You, a healthy adult, are not as strong as a sick little girl."

"Roy, I'm hungry."

"Let's go to the hot dog stand, your favorite one."

"good!"

Another week later, two more workers died at the Spike fuel cell factory. One of them died of complications caused by nuclear radiation, and the other died of the poor air environment near the factory.

When dining in the cafeteria, the atmosphere became even more depressing, with constant coughing and many people suffering from sub-health for a long time. It felt like the workers were like animals waiting to be slaughtered.

The higher-ups in the factory were talking about the union organizing a strike and were worried about whether it would affect production. No one proposed to send pensions to the families of the dead workers.

The disappearance of a low-level person does not even cause a ripple in this cold and cruel society.

Another production accident occurred in the afternoon. Due to the disrepair of the equipment, a worker was stuck inside the machine tool. Fortunately, the danger was averted in time and no life was lost.

The production line leader who had the accident was called to the office upstairs and severely criticized. The reason was not that it was a safety hazard, but that it had slowed down production and affected efficiency.

Roy was determined to take Anna away from this cannibalistic place as soon as possible, but he couldn't make any mistakes before boarding the immigration ship.

In the evening, Roy said he was going to see the collector. Anna wanted to thank the benefactor in person, but was naturally rejected.

(To tell a lie, you have to use hundreds of lies to cover it up. It’s really tiring.)

With this in mind, Roy got up and went to the Old Cripple Bar to withdraw some money. There were no taxis on the road, so he had to walk there.

The main roads were blocked because the marching workers were confronting the riot squad. They had to take a detour and heard sporadic gunshots, cries, and alarm bells from a distance...

(This night, God knows how many more people will die, and the situation is getting worse and worse.)

The communicator rang. It was fellow worker Bart, complaining to Roy about the bad things in the factory.

At the corner of a dark alley, several dark figures surrounded them. The leader was a tall and thin man holding a long dagger in his hand, while the others held pistols or iron rods.

This is very common in the city of York where public security is terrible. These maggots took advantage of the local police to suppress the strike wave and came out to cause trouble. Roy pressed the button of the wireless transmitter calmly, and then slowly

Tundi raised his hand:

"Brothers, don't be nervous, I surrender."

"Boy, bring me the money, or I'll take out your intestines and dry them out."
