Chapter 1 1. The cutest girl in the world

After passing through the tunnel, the telephone poles along the way are left behind.

The rumbling train slowly stopped in front of the signal station, and the gray clouds blocked the sun.

Outside the window, passengers holding newspapers waiting for the train to enter the station had picked up their luggage and stood up. Several uniformed train attendants got off the train to guide them.

The sky was white and the cold wind of November could not get into the car.

In the third carriage, at a seat near the window, Taku Makimura looked out the window and sighed.

In the seventeenth year after his rebirth in the island country, Taku Makimura, who had just graduated from Kamikawa Private School, made up his mind to go out for a hike at the beginning of the second week of November.

It's different from other people's rebirths.

There are no cheats like the awakening system, and there is no easy-to-use experience panel.

The only thing that is different from others is that Taku Makimura has a special ability that is difficult to use:

As long as you repeat what the other person said in your mind, you will know whether that sentence is a lie.

In the military and political fields, it may be considered extraordinary.

But the premise is that others will believe that his ability really exists, otherwise it will just be regarded as a joke, or too much.

When he was six years old, his father died in an accident at a construction site, and his mother fell ill and died soon after. Taku Makimura had no other relatives to rely on.

I reluctantly completed compulsory education with social support and had no intention of continuing to study in college.

When he went out this time, Taku Makimura only had some cash in his hand that could sustain him for half a year, and his only luggage was another set of clothes to change.

He decided to go to Echigo-Yuzawa to relax.

When spring came, it was also before he officially looked for a job.

Closing the German magazine, Taku Makimura leaned on the soft backrest and rubbed his eyelids with his hands to relax.

Conversations came from all around, as if the carriage was filled with glass bottles, and the sounds were far away and now nearer.

The suitcase's rollers pressed against the floor, making a clear squeaking sound.

The train stopped for a long time and most of the passengers got on.

The flight attendant outside was about to put away the pedals for people with disabilities to enter, when a hurried female voice suddenly came through the glass window:

"Wait, wait! I haven't gotten in the car yet!"

Taku Makimura, who was disturbed by the sound, raised half of his eyes to look at it without much interest.

Just for a moment, in the visible air, it was like a scene in a movie flashing by.

The long-lost sunshine penetrated the clouds, and the gentle golden color flashed in the girl's eyes.

The desolate autumn day has disappeared. Looking at it, I can see the vast sky and white doves flying low in the sky.

Whether it's one year, three years, twenty years, or a lifetime.

Taku Makimura will always remember that scene that penetrated his soul.

The wind blowing into the platform raised the girl's long dark blue hair.

She lowered the brim of her hat with one hand and held a white suitcase with the other. Her floral dress and cashmere scarf were floating in the wind.

"Next time, please wait here earlier." The short-haired female flight attendant said to her as if she was blaming a child, and took her suitcase.

"Yeah, thank you!" The girl smiled sweetly, and that smile made people feel happy.

After a while, the train started slowly, and the girl got into the carriage and was in the same section as Taku Makimura.

She looked at the serial numbers on the seats one by one, as if checking the degree of damage to the seats, and finally stopped next to Makimura Taku.

Her narrowed eyes finally opened, with an expression of surprise on her face: "Found it."

Hearing the sound, Taku Makimura leaned on his arms and looked over.

Those are a pair of eyes that seem to hide stars.

Just looking at each other makes people feel like they are under the deep sky in the mountains, thinking of the bright moonlight and the shining stage.

Even without the sunshine, those eyes are so beautiful that it makes people lose their mind, as if they want to take away all the breath of Makimura Taku.

The girl did not sit down immediately. Instead, she glanced at the luggage rack above her head and deliberately pulled the suitcase's rollers.

"Want to help?" he asked hesitantly.

"Thank you!" The girl smiled nicely, handed the suitcase to him directly, then straightened her skirt and sat down directly opposite him.

"..."

After putting the luggage on the shelf, Taku Makimura clapped his hands and sat down again.

"Thank you," the girl said, with a smile on her face. "What's your name?"

"Makimura Taku."

"Hoshino Ai."

She took off her hat and brushed her long hair from the junction of her neck and cashmere scarf.

A faint fragrance spreads into the air, like freshly picked cherries.

Makimura Taku looked at her blankly.

"What are you looking at?" After being stared at for a while, Hoshino Aicai said in a gentle tone.

"I'm sorry." Taku Makimura apologized for not being a gentleman enough, "Miss Hoshino is so pretty, I accidentally..."

"You are the one, right?" She was not angry at all. Instead, she leaned her upper body forward and stared into Taku Makimura's eyes with interest. "You are so good-looking. Could it be that you are an actor by profession?"

"That's ridiculous."

"How old?"

"Seventeen." After that, he added, "It just turned last month."

"A high school student?"

"Already graduated from high school."

"Oh, I'm one year older than you." She put her hand on her well-developed chest as if she was saying something great, "I'm eighteen, so I'm your sister."

"Lie." Taku Makimura can easily spot such a simple lie with just a quick glance.

"How could it be a lie?" she said. "There is no need to lie about this kind of thing."

Makimura Taku didn't pay attention to what she explained and asked directly: "Seventeen?"

"eighteen!"

"But he looks like he's sixteen..." He lifted his chin.

"You are really eighteen."

As the train entered the residential area, green houses flashed by, towers were placed every few meters, and cables were in a messy straight line.

"Ms. Hoshino," Taku Makimura put the closed German magazine on the table and stared into Ai Hoshino's eyes, "You can't lie to me, but I can see through all lies."

"See the lie?" Hoshino Ai's eyes widened even more.

"The specific reason," Taku Makimura thought for a moment, "I think you didn't graduate from high school, and it's November 8th... and you skipped school?"

"No!"

"Strange, I didn't lie this time."

"Your ability is really easy to use." She puffed up her cheeks and looked out in anger, while Makimura Takuya looked into the distance.

The scenery changes to the bridge.

Fragile thin clouds seemed to be frozen in the sky. It was completely white outside, and even the lake surface was shimmering with an icy cold light.

Someone got up and opened the car window, and the November north wind poured in through a small gap.

It's not cold, but it's better to say that the air in the car becomes fresher.

Pulling his gaze back from the window, after about ten seconds, Hoshino Ai said calmly while adjusting his scarf: "I am actually sixteen."

"Guessed it." Makimura Taku still looked out the window, thinking about the reason why the place where the sea and the sky meet is white.

"But I didn't skip school." Hoshino Ai said.

"Yeah." Makimura Taku knew this was not a lie.

He put his hand on the window, touched his beardless chin, and waited for the other party to continue.

"If I said I was an orphan," she raised her head, "would you believe it?"

After hearing this, Taku Makimura turned to look at her in surprise.

He repeated this sentence in his mind: "I believe it."

Hoshino Ai asked again: "Then if I say that I ran away from home, would you believe it?"
