Chapter 12 12. Walking from a painting into another painting

"No problem." Makimura Taku nodded.

"Yeah!" Hoshino Ai ate another tomato fruit.

On their way to Yunchang Pond that afternoon, the air was surprisingly mild, as if someone had specially adjusted the temperature to the most suitable temperature for the human body.

The sun is shining brightly, the leaves occasionally flicker overhead, and the view is just right.

The clear outlines of the roofs, the bridges, the gray-brown tree trunks standing on both sides of the road, everything seemed to have been redrawn with a black pen.

As they walked on the road, they looked up and found that the clouds in the sky were as misty as catkins, as if they would disappear completely if the wind blew.

If the light blue sky were replaced by a night sky dotted with stars, no one would doubt it was a midsummer night.

When they passed by a shop selling trinkets, Hoshino Ai's eyes widened.

She seemed to have forgotten the purpose of going forward, and ran over with her long hair swaying, and her white skirt swaying.

"Makimura, look," the two of them entered the store, Hoshino Ai picked up an orange fisherman's hat and put it on his head, "this hat is too cute!"

"It's very cute," Taku Makimura said, "and it suits you very well."

"Yes, it's really suitable." The proprietress of the store came out and looked back and forth at the star-like boy and girl.

There was something lost and worth remembering in his eyes.

"Thank you." Hoshino Ai said obediently to the proprietress, and then left a satisfied smile to Makimura Taku.

She took off the hat and put it back, looked around again, picked out a similar black fisherman hat, and gestured to Taku Makimura.

"Well...this one suits you very well!"

"The hat is nice."

"You're pretty too," she said.

"Thank you." Makimura Taku replied.

In the end they didn't buy anything, they just tried it.

The landlady seemed to like them very much and said she wanted to give them a bracelet. The bracelet was silver, heart-shaped and inexpensive, but neither of them wanted it and just said thank you again.

From there, they went directly to Yunchang Pond without stopping on the way.

After arriving at Yunba Pond, although they had already seen the landscape photos taken by the photographer named Shinomiya Kaguya in the car, Taku Makimura and the others were still deeply shocked by the scene in front of them:

Along the clear river, a group of maple trees as lush as a virgin forest are trying to spread their branches and leaves.

Pink, green, and golden pentagonal leaves covered in the late autumn sunshine swayed at the ends of the branches, seeming to be trying to fall.

On the sparkling water, the shadows of the flickering trees are reflected, and the blue sky is meticulously carved into the water.

The overwhelming colorful leaves that have been floating on the water rotate and flutter with the wind, just like the erratic sails in the sea.

When viewing Unchang Pond surrounded by nature from a distance, it always feels like clouds are falling into the river and fish are swimming in the sky.

When tourists pass by here, they may accidentally think that there are only maple forests left in the whole world.

The exquisite picture is always reminiscent of the oil paintings created by the Russian realist painter Shishkin.

They walked along the river, listened to the wind for a while, and looked at the trees for a while.

There were eight little birds on the tree here, and there were sixteen branches on the tree there, and there were eleven bare trees in total. They took all those gentle and ordinary things into their hearts.

As I walked, the sounds of pedestrians talking could be heard beside me. The cameras were clicking, and many people were taking pictures. Hoshino Ai ran to the river and sat down, looking back at Taku Makimura:

"Want to sit down and bask in the sun with me?"

"Baking in the sun?"

"Well, let's bask in the sun." She said with a smile.

"good."

In addition to them, there were many people sitting on the shore. Old couples in their 70s and 80s chatted, and young couples in their twenties cuddled and hugged each other.

A professional photographer adjusted the camera angle from behind, and with a flash of white light, even Taku Makimura and Ai Hoshino were probably frozen in the scenery.

They looked at the light and shadow on the water. The sunlight seemed to be broken into pieces by fallen leaves.

"Makimura," Hoshino Ai suddenly asked him, "do you still remember what you said to me?"

"I will remember your name."

She was stunned for a moment, then smiled, and her smile flashed across the shadow of the tree.

She shook her head and said, "That's not the case."

Makimura Taku thought for a while: "Please fall in love with the autumn of Karuizawa?"

"No." She said, still smiling.

"Unexpected."

"Think again."

"I can't think of it no matter how hard I think about it."

"I'll tell you if I think of another one!"

Makimura Taku hummed in thought and glanced at the clouds floating in the sky: "Okay."

"good?"

"Okay." Taku Makimura explained, "I seem to often say to you: okay."

"Really?" Hoshino Ai looked at him, "It seems so, but that's not what I want to say."

"what is that?"

She put her hands on the ground, looking at a red maple leaf that was about to fall, and her slender calves hidden in her skirt swayed three times.

"You said you could see through all lies..." The leaves floated down and swayed into the water. She turned to Makimura Taku, "Really?"

"Honesty is my strength."

"So is humor." She said, "You are always joking with me. I don't completely believe you."

"But it's true."

"Then let me test you."

"Please say."

"My guardian's last name is Saito."

"lie."

"My guardian's last name is Sato."

"lie."

"My guardian's surname is Saiki."

"lie."

"Awesome!" she asked with admiration, "How did you do it?"

"As long as you say something, I can tell whether it is a lie or not."

"Brain waves?"

"superpower."

"amazing!"

"Thanks."

They said nothing more.

Hoshino Ai seemed to have just asked a question on a whim, and it was treated as a joke until the end. Makimura Taku had long been used to this kind of thing.

They stayed at Yunchang Pond for a long time, as if they wanted to wait until all the leaves fell and the river water was evaporated by the sun.

Those countless maple trees probably won’t all wither away for another hundred years, Makimura Taku thought.

He turned on his phone and found that it was only four o'clock.

Time passed so slowly, as if someone had turned the pointer back thirty degrees just to let them sit a little longer.

"Ah, my butt is numb." Hoshino Ai said.

"Take a walk?"

"I want to go somewhere with wind."

"Wind," Taku Makimura raised his hand, "But it's here, why should we go somewhere else?"

She stretched and said, "Well... I want to go to a place where there is wind but few people and I want to continue my daze."
To be continued...
