Chapter 21 21. The tram passes by
The melodious honking of cars came, the traffic lights made more than three ding-dong sounds, the leaves danced in the wind, and the chirping of birds was clear and translucent.
All the movements seemed very close and yet very far away, as if the end of all sounds was in a dream.
The cherry blossoms slowly fell at the intersection of their eyes, very slowly, as if they were about to stop in the air, with a slight sound as they fell.
"Mu...mura?" Hoshino Ai cast her gaze from above.
The wind blew her hair to her mouth, and her bangs almost blocked her sight, just like the first time they met. This time Hoshino lifted her hair with his hands.
Makimura Taku looked at her with a very distant look. He wanted to say Hoshino Ai and said this unforgettable name, but in the end it turned out to be something else.
"haven't seen you for a long time."
"Well, long time no see!" Hoshino Ai faced him, hands behind her back, she smiled, as if there was an 80-gram sunflower hidden behind her.
That smile is something I haven’t seen for a long time, Makimura thought.
In his memory, there had been such a scene in the past, a heart-warming and real experience, but Taku Makimura had almost forgotten it.
At around eight o'clock, the two of them strolled along the residential buildings.
Originally, Taku Makimura was going to Starbucks, but after meeting Ai Hoshino, it didn't seem to matter where he was going, and Ai Hoshino walked leisurely with him at a pace that was natural to him.
The two people were bathing in the sunshine, crossing the railway, and passing by the park. They saw ten unprofessional baseball players playing an amateur baseball game in the park.
Two children were playing on a slide and a seesaw a little further away. A girl was swinging next to a sycamore tree. On the left sat a boy of similar age to her. They were probably lovers.
"When did you arrive in Tokyo?" Turning a T-junction, Hoshino Ai suddenly turned around and asked him.
"I came back at the beginning of the year."
"At the beginning of the year?" Hoshino Ai was a little surprised, "I thought it came recently."
"That was the original plan." Taku Makimura kept walking beside her.
"Then why did you change your mind?"
"I still like Tokyo more."
“What do you like about Tokyo?”
"big."
"It's not big."
“I also like that people in Tokyo love to lie.”
"You like this too?" She glanced at Taku Makimura as if she was frightened, and Taku Makimura smiled noncommittally.
Before nine o'clock, they walked into a cafe with a small flow of people.
The store manager is a middle-aged man in his forties, wearing a suit and tie, with his hair styled very stylishly. He personally makes coffee for customers.
"Please use it, both of you."
"Thank you!" Hoshino Ai said.
Makimura Taku glanced at her, and only belatedly remembered to say thank you. The store manager had already walked away with a smile.
They each took a sip of coffee. The early morning sun slanted in and the tabletop was bare.
A daffodil would be suitable on top, Hoshino Ai joked.
Makimura Taku had a very ethereal feeling, as if the girl in front of him would slip away again in the next second, so he took another sip of coffee.
"Before..." he said.
"Before..." Hoshino Ai interrupted him, "We were very happy with each other before! Karuizawa and Echigo Yuzawa too, ah, I really want to keep playing."
"Why did you leave early?" He felt that the topic was a bit serious, so he added, "I mean, why didn't you stay for a while before leaving?"
Hoshino Ai thought for a while: "Hmm... maybe I am like you and like Tokyo more!"
"lie."
"Ha, come again?"
"hate me?"
"Absolutely not!"
Makimura Taku took a sip of coffee before speaking: "What on earth is that?"
"secret!"
"Come again."
"Get used to it soon~" She showed a girl's unique smile, which was a bit naughty and a bit happy, and used her delicate and perfect cheeks to label the smile as intellectual and mature.
Makimura Taku looked at her smile and was attracted by her twinkling eyes.
He closed his eyes and took a sip of coffee, politely not asking any further questions.
At nine-thirty, the two of them finally finished their coffee slowly. Makimura Taku asked her what she was going to do. Hoshino Ai said that the weather was very nice and she just wanted to go out for a walk. There was no other reason.
"lie."
"What about you?" Hoshino Ai asked him.
Makimura Taku glanced out the window: "Looking for a job."
"found it?"
"Not yet, but there may be."
"What you said is too difficult to understand!"
"Maybe." Taku Makimura looked back at her and said, "By the way, that photo I took before..."
"photo?"
"The photo I took with the sticker machine in Karuizawa." He took the photos out of his bag. There were two photos in total and placed them on the table. "I printed a copy so you can keep it."
"Oh~" Hoshino Ai twisted one of the pictures, looked at the front and then the back, as if checking if there was any dust on it, and finally looked at Taku Makimura with a smile on his face, "You are so thoughtful, I accept it."
Got it, thank you!"
"Nothing." Taku Makimura put away another one.
"Speaking of which," Hoshino Ai suddenly said, "I left in a hurry last time and forgot to ask for your contact information. I was still worried in the car. Hey, Makimura, let's exchange contact information."
After saying that, she took out her phone and activated the screen. Taku Makimura looked at her and found that the phone in her hand was not the one she had during the trip. Not only had the phone case been changed, but the brand of the phone was also different.
"Is it okay?" Hoshino Ai saw that he had not moved, so he asked softly.
"Okay, sorry." Taku Makimura came to his senses and took out his mobile phone.
After the two exchanged LINE contact information, they left the cafe and walked a long way along the asphalt road with few trees. They didn't know where they were going and no one suggested it.
They seemed to be back on the road they traveled on before, except that there was no snow on the ground, no fallen leaves, and the sun was a bit dazzling.
"What did you do after you came back?" Taku Makimura asked her as she passed a stop sign.
"It's nothing," Ai Hoshino replied, "When the weather is nice, I walk around like this every day. When it rains, I hold an umbrella and walk!"
"lie."
"But I met you this time." She stopped and said.
"Shouldn't I show up?" Makimura Takuya stopped and joked.
"That's not the case."
"Don't want to say anything?"
"I do."
"Then say something."
She hesitated: "It's not something that has to be said."
"I want to hear it." Makimura Taku looked at her.
"You really want to hear it?"
"Want to hear it very much."
"Then I won't tell you~" She smiled mischievously, blinked half of her eyes, and stuck out her tongue.
Makimura Taku couldn't do anything to her: "No, this is too much, isn't it?"
"not bad."
"Just tell me."
"Why," Hoshino said, "what's so special about you?"
"He's handsome."
