‘Zheng’ means “Zheng”, which refers to the ditches by the field. Dazhen is a comprehensive irrigation water conservancy system for large ditches.

In the past twenty years, the administrative district built Shimen Dazhen in Taoyuan, luring water from the middle of Dahan Creek to store it in Shimen Reservoir, and irrigating 1.1 million mu of dry land in Taoyuan City.

In Changhua, Changhua Dazhen was built and Zhuoshui Creek was irrigated with 400,000 mu of land in Changhua City.

The Fengshan Dazhen was built in Fengshan, and Gaoping Creek was used to irrigate 300,000 mu of land in Fengshan County.

I built Yunlin Dazhen in Yunlin and used Zhuoshuixi water source to irrigate 750,000 mu of arable land on the Yunlin Plain.

The Jianan Dazhen is also built on the Jianan Plain, and plans to attract the Zengwen River, the fourth largest river in Taiwan, to irrigate Chiayi and 1.5 million mu of arable land in Tainan!

Among them, Jianan Dazhen has the largest irrigation area, the highest construction difficulty, and the longest construction period. Since the start of construction in Wanli in the eighth year, it has been renovated for ten years!

The project was finally completed in April this year. After three months of acceptance and commissioning, it finally reached the trial operation stage.

To celebrate this great moment, the Taiwan Special Administrative Region held a grand opening ceremony, and even Zhao Hao personally attended the ribbon to show his importance to water conservancy projects!

The ceremony was held at Wushantou Reservoir, the core of Dazhen.

This huge reservoir is located upstream of Guantian River, a tributary of Zengwen River. It is an extremely large trough reservoir built using the low-lying valleys in Wushanling as a storage pool.

The total length of the reservoir dam is 1,273 meters, the bottom width is 303 meters, and the height is 56 meters.

The main body of the dam is made of traditional earth and stone structures. This allows local materials to be used and greatly reduces construction costs. Although the cement and steel output of Jiangnan Group is already amazing, infrastructure is being carried out everywhere, and the demand is even more amazing. If you want to build a concrete dam, you still don’t know how to wait until the year of the monkey and horse month.

Moreover, the earth and rock dam has a simple structure, easy maintenance, and has good performance to adapt to deformation. It is most suitable for use on Taiwan Island where earthquakes are frequent. The requirements for foundations are also low, so the construction technology is simple and there are few processes. Dayu said it was good after using it, and it has never been outdated for thousands of years!

However, Jiangnan Construction has upgraded its construction technology. They used Zhangjian-type steam engine to lift water onto the embankment, so that the workers can lay sand and gravel on one side and pour water on the other side, so that the fine grains of sand and gravel will penetrate and stuff them into the cracks of large stones. Then they will be solid after rolling and compacting them with stone mills layer by layer.

In order to meet the standards of Zhao Hao’s 100-year-old construction project, the construction workers built a layer of mortar and stone protection slope on both sides of the earth and stone dam, and added a layer of concrete shell on the outermost layer.

The former can protect the earth and rock dam from being washed by water flow along the dam, while the latter can keep the protective slope stable and prevent water seepage.

In addition, because it is a Ligao Reservoir, which is a distance from the Jishui River, the Jiangnan Construction Eight Company, which was constructed, also dug Wushanling and built a three-kilometer water diversion tunnel, so that the incoming water from Zengwenxi can be introduced into the Wushantou Reservoir through the funnel-shaped water intake, becoming the main living water injected into the Jianan Plain.

In addition, the north-south water supply main line across the Jianan Plain, such a huge and arduous project took a full ten years!

The opening ceremony was held at the dam. Zhao Hao and several senior leaders of the group, the Taiwan Administrative Region Management Committee, the municipal cadres of Tainan, Chiayi and Yunlin, the cadres and engineers of Jiangnan Water Conservancy Design Institute, Jiangnan Construction Eighth Company, and most importantly, relying on shoulders to carry hand-pushing, gather sand to form a tower, and all the 300,000 migrant workers who built this grand project came.

In fact, the total number of full-time construction workers has always remained above 10,000, and has never exceeded 20,000.

Three hundred thousand is the number of people who have participated in the construction of the dam in ten years, while the three cities of Tainan, Chiayi and Yunlin combined have only a population of 800,000.

That is to say, almost all adult men in the three cities have supported the construction of dams during the slack farming period under the organization of the commune. Moreover, they are voluntary labor to bring their own dry food and do not add burden to the construction party.

At this time, the Wushantou Reservoir, which has condensed the efforts and eager expectations of the group, management committee, and the people of the three cities, has reached the minimum operating water level.

Amid the sound of gongs, drums and firecrackers, Zhao Hao, Hua Bozhen, vice chairman of the group and chairman of Jiangnan Construction Group, and 100 migrant workers, engineers and representatives of management cadres, took off the red silk together, and a granite statue two meters tall revealed its true appearance.

The content of the statue is a group of images, with a total of nine characters, which can be divided into three groups.

At the front are two technicians, one wearing thick glasses, holding drawings and ruler in his hands, and the other carrying a bundle of rope rulers and spoon-shaped drills, representing engineering design and management personnel respectively.

The group in the middle has the largest number of people, with five migrant workers pushing forward and pushing backward, and transporting a full truck of earth and rocks to the dam with all their efforts.

Finally, there was a woman carrying a load to deliver water and dry food.

The three groups of characters are closely connected into a whole, moving forward in the same direction!

All the characters are strong and full of strength, everyone has bright eyes and their faces are full of hope!

Under their feet are eight powerful and powerful words that anyone can understand, "Unity and One Heart, Man Conquer Heaven"!

Under this "Jiannan Dazhen Construction Memorial Statue", everyone observed silence for 282 seconds to mourn the 282 construction workers who died during the construction process in Dazhen.

"They have migrant workers, technicians, and management cadres. They come from Shandong, Zhejiang, Nanzhi, and Fujian... Their oldest is forty-eight years old, and the youngest is only fifteen years old. Their names are forever engraved on the back of this monument, allowing them to rest in peace when they create the miracle they have created!"

Amid Zhao Hao's touching eulogy, everyone looked in the direction the statue and the martyrs looked.

I saw the dam surrounded the beautiful scenery of a lake, and the winding mountains around it had turned into a lake shore. Looking down from a high place, the entire reservoir area was like a tree of green corals, which was so beautiful that it was fascinating.

There are also countless egrets, wild ducks and cormorants roaming on the lake, making this beautiful scenery lively.

Because it was a trial operation, only one set was opened this time. But the scene of the five-meter-wide gate opening and the scene of thousands of lakes rushing out is already spectacular enough!

I saw the majestic water flow from the outlet in the middle of the dam like a waterfall, pouring into the concrete trough in front of the dam. Immediately, the beads collapsed, and the droplets surged. The water mist that rose into the air like smoke and swelled up, which made the onlookers feel cold all over.

Cheers louder than the sound of the waterfall sounded, and the happy people jumped excitedly, running forward with the joyful clear water...

After the water flows out of the warehouse, it moves two kilometers along the straight water guide road, and then divides it into two parts and goes north and south.

The southern main line travels south from Wushantou, crosses Guantian Creek and Zengwen Creek, and goes to Tainan, nourishing the 630,000 acres of land there.

The Beitou runs north along Wushantou, crosses Guichong River, Jishui River, Bazhang River, Puzi River, and finally ends at Beigang River. The 870,000 acres of land that nourishes Pingtung and Yunlin.

The land north of Beigang Creek is irrigated by the turbid trunk line of Yunlin Dazhen.

Moreover, the Beitung Trunk Line and the Tui Tung Trunk Line, which is the longest river in Taiwan, are connected by a cryptana under the Beigang River bed. They use the inverted siphon principle to communicate with each other and support water use.

The rest of the work is to build branch lines, division lines and diversion channels according to needs, and build a dense irrigation network.

In this way, the rolling water sources from Wushantou Reservoir and Zhuoshui Creek can irrigate the long-dried land through these networks!

However, if such hard-earned incoming water is just let go and not managed in order to save money, most of it will be wasted.

Not only is it a pity, it will also lead to insufficient water use downstream and even no water available. At that time, there will inevitably be disputes, and if one is not done properly, there will even be an armed fight.

Since ancient times, most of the armed fights between clan villages and clan villages have been to fight for water...

Immigrants are all militiamen with guns. Once a bloodshed occurs, it may turn into a small war.

This is not an alarmist statement, but a bloody lesson. It has happened many times in other administrative regions. Although they were quickly dispatched by the group to extinguish the troops with thunder means, then arrest the ones who should be caught, kill the ones who should be killed, and even the entire commune was broken up and redistributed.

But the price of repairing the dead is undoubtedly painful, and preventing problems is the king.

Fortunately, thanks to the group's strong organizational strength and scientific management capabilities, the administrative region does not need to spend too much money to do this.

The Administrative Region Water Resources Department has set up the Jianan Water Resources General Office, which will unify the maintenance, improvement and addition of water diversion lines in the three cities, and allocate water share according to the actual situation of each commune.

Each commune has only two to three staff members in the water conservancy department. He is already very busy just by being responsible for uploading, issuing and stating the distribution of water. The specific work must be assigned to the production team.

In principle, all water-using production teams must undertake the construction of small and medium-sized water supply canals at the end of the waterway under the leadership of the Commune Water Conservancy Department.

It is not just as simple as digging a ditch to divert water. It must comply with the standards of the water conservancy department. Not only must the width and depth meet the standards, but cement must also be laid, cover plates, or stoneware water pipes must be laid to avoid white leakage and evaporation.

Each production team must set up a water conservancy team. In addition to being responsible for the daily inspection and cleaning of the canals in this section, it also needs to observe the rotation and irrigation effect and report the difference in actual water consumption to the commune Water Conservancy Department. Then, the water conservancy department adjusts the water supply plan based on the report.

The water conservancy team then allocates water share based on the rotation irrigation time set by the Water Conservancy Department and notifies the members to come out to induce irrigation within the specified time.

The water conservancy team will not increase the burden on the brigade, because the job is meticulous and cumbersome, but does not require heavy physical strength, so the members are all elderly people.

But because it takes simple calculations and daily records, only the elderly under the Jiangnan Group can take on this job.
