Chapter 18 The Desire of Riches and Nobles
In front of Minglun Hall, two hundred students listened to Hai Rui's deep speech:
"The second is that you cannot 'turn a blind eye to the outside world'. Reading essays only requires sermons and ink scrolls. Even if you can write a gorgeous and neat article, it will not be beneficial to the family, country, body and mind. Such nerds who only know how to read and study hard will harm the country, even more harm than the previous type of people!"
The students were secretly shocked. For the first time, I heard that nerds were more misleading than corrupt officials.
Li Zhi's eyes lit up again, Hai Rui's view coincided with him.
'This is unscientific, it must be a coincidence...' Jealousy made Li Zhi lose his mind and he was unwilling to admit this.
"Since this college requires that schools at all levels should vigorously encourage students to go out of school and learn more about social reality outside books. Combined with farmland water conservancy, industry and trade and other people's livelihood issues, we should use discussion methods to encourage students to speak out about the world and improve students' ability to analyze real problems and solve practical problems!"
Hai Rui finally said: "This college gives you eight words: "Cultivate yourself inside and serve the people outside." Learn your skills well in school, practice worldly affairs when you leave school, use the knowledge you have learned to solve practical problems for the people, and don't become a useless person who just speaks empty words but does not do it!"

After Hai Zhongcheng finished his lecture, Priest Cai asked Mr. Hai to give a question to test the students' knowledge.
This is the meaning of the title, and Hai Rui happily agreed.
The clerk immediately brought the desk, and Hai Rui picked up a pen and wrote a line of large characters with silver hooks and iron paintings.
‘The desire of wealth and noble people’!
"Hiss..." Seeing this question, everyone gasped.
No one expected that Hai Rui would actually have such a question.
Isn’t he hating the rich? Didn’t he regard wealth as a cloud? This is unscientific...
After receiving the title, the students returned to their respective classrooms and began to rack their brains to write. Although Hai Zhongcheng was not a censor, he could get his appreciation. Not only would he be famous in Jiangnan, he might be able to participate in the autumn examination without taking the exam.
In front of Minglun Hall, Hai Rui said to Cai Guoxi, Li Zhi and others: "Let's not be idle either, let's do something and demonstrate to the students."
"We're going to show off our ugly face." Cai Guoxi and others naturally did not dare to refuse.
Everyone entered Minglun Hall, and the clerk quickly set up a table for all the adults in the hall.
Hai Rui was willing to sit behind a big case and wrote without thinking. Obviously, he had already written the draft.
Cai Guoxi and others also hurriedly sat down, each of them even more nervous than the students.
This is just an essay for students, but an exam for them, which is related to Master Zhongcheng's view of them.
If the views expressed are contrary to the Prime Minister's Office, then these three years will be no different from being in jail.
The officials are all scholars, and no matter how bad they are, they are still old scholars, so they naturally know that this topic comes from "The Analects of Confucius·Li Ren".
'The Master said that wealth and honor are what people want. If they do not get it by their way, they will not get it. If they do not get it by their way, they will not get it. If they do not get it by their way."
Simply put, everyone wants to get rich, but if they cannot get it through legitimate channels, a gentleman cannot enjoy it. Everyone wants to get rid of poverty, but if they cannot get rid of poverty through the right way, a gentleman will not be safe.
Cai Guoxi thought about it and felt that this was the trap of the governor. The topic he gave was "the desire of wealth and noble people", but what he really wanted to express was the second half of the sentence "If you don't get it by your own way, you won't get it."
It is to crack down on the meaning of taking advantage of tricks and gaining nothing for nothing.
The more he thought about it, the more he felt that he had guessed it right. He was a famous Neo-Confucian scholar with a profound knowledge. He decided on his ideas and soon conceived a harsh proclamation to crack down on local tyrants and evil gentry.
After putting down the pen, Master Cai gently rubbed his wrist and thought to himself that he would always leave a good impression on Zhongcheng this time, right?
Niu Qianshi beside him was still biting his pen with a frown. The result of Niu Qianshi's review of the question was the same as that of Master Cai, but his butt was not clean and he did not have the confidence to shout for a blow and kill, so the article was naturally difficult to give birth.

In the room, Li Zhi finished writing the article and looked up at the big case. He saw that Hai Rui had already put down his writing and sat upright and looked at him.
"Professor Li finished writing?" Hai Rui asked lightly.
"What's the difficulty?" Li Zhi chuckled.
"Pick it up and read it in our hospital." Hai Rui waved his hand slightly.
"Yes." Li Zhi then put the article that had not dried in the moji to the big case, then glanced at Hai Rui's article, and asked with a smile: "Can you also read the masterpiece of the Central Chief?"
"What's wrong?" Hai Rui nodded, picked up his article, and signaled Li Zhi to take him away.
The two of them sat down next to the big case and read each other's articles.
Li Zhi's problem is different from Cai Guoxi, and he did not cater to Hai Rui in a roundabout way.
Instead, he took the title of "the desires of wealth and noble people" and made generous defenses for his personal desires, criticizing Zhu Xi's "destroying human desires and preserving the principles of heaven."
He said, "Privateness is the heart of a person. People must have selfishness, and then their heart will be seen; if they are selfless, they will have no heart."
He believes that selfishness is human nature, and it is the selfish nature that makes people pursue progress.
For example, farmers work hard to produce more food and satisfy their appetites; the business class strives to produce more products in order to satisfy their selfish desires; scholars work hard to study in order to satisfy their selfish desires for promotion and wealth.
Therefore, Li Zhi put forward the view that "human desires are the law of nature."
In addition to whipping the old man he hated the most, Li Zhi did not forget to provoke Hai Rui, who made him envious and jealous.
In his article, he also said, "Heaven completes the world and communicates with each other", which elevates the exchange relationship between people, that is, commercial transactions to a level that conforms to the laws of nature.
So what should the government do? Li Zhi put forward the political proposition of "the ultimate way is inaction, the ultimate rule is silent, and the ultimate religion is silent." He believed that the reason why the country often has unrest is the result of the rulers' interference in social and economic activities too much.
He hopes that the court and government can only maintain national peace and social stability, and do not interfere or interfere less in the social and economic life. Reliance on letting everyone move freely in their own way, then people's nature of pursuing wealth and free trading will establish a spontaneous regulation, harmonious and long-term social and economic order.
That is, "because his politics does not change his customs, and he follows his nature and does not violate his ability", it is his ideal "governance for the best man".
~~
Li Zhi's article made Hai Rui stunned. Unexpectedly, the prefect Cai, who was so Taoist, could tolerate such a rebellious madman and become the principal of his residence.
Hai Rui was not very angry about Li Zhi's proposal to "glorious governance" and implicitly mock him as the governor and not disturb the normal economic order in the local area.
Because first, his dignified governor would not be angry with the principal of the government. Secondly, Li Zhi's thoughts were quite the legacy of his spiritual teacher Qiu Jun.
However, unlike Qiu Jun's fundamentally denying the traditional idea of "focusing on agriculture and suppressing commerce" and advocating that both agriculture and commerce are emphasized, Hai Rui is not so radical. He believes that it should be "based on agriculture and supplemented by industry and commerce."
