Chapter 43 Chen Shusheng’s method of freedom(2/3)

See how he is different from Brother Fang Dao?

After seeing him, I will return to Wujiang.

Xiaojiangshen ate the last bite of the fruit and embarked on a new journey, still heading north.

And today night.

Twenty thousand miles away in Xiang County.

Chen Shusheng was still as usual. After opening the catalog of Qingxian County, he lay on the bed comfortably.

Everything is easy and familiar.

Because this is his forty-ninth dream.

Open your eyes again.

In front of you is the scenery of Qingxian County.

Traders coming and going, and delicious food floating in the air.

He has been to Qing County three times and likes it very much.

But the number of pedestrians coming and going is different every time, and the weather is also different.

The sky is gloomy at this moment, as if it is going to rain at any time.

It adds a moist smell to the air, like porridge, making the deliciousness in the air even richer.

‘I am in Qing County now, this is not a dream...’

Different from Fang Taoist and others who entered the book.

Every time Chen Shusheng enters the book world, he tries his best to forget that he is in a dream. He wants to experience this different life earlier and regard the book world as a real existence.

This thought also came to him.

He soon forgot everything and followed the crowd into the county.

Looking for the scent, he entered an inn.

Unfortunately, he was penniless, so after thinking about it, he withdrew again.

I stood like this until noon.

The shopkeeper came out of the inn and asked, "Are you hungry?"

Chen Shusheng nodded.

The shopkeeper asked again, "There is one less waiter in the kitchen, would you like to come?"

Chen Shusheng nodded again, cupped his fists and saluted, "Thank you, shopkeeper!"

That's it.

Chen Shusheng had a hearty meal at noon and started as an apprentice again. Under the supervision of the master master, he practiced spooning and knife skills every day.

March passed before I knew it.

On this day.

The chef walked into the backyard, took out a knife technique secret book and said: "I see that you are good at knife skills. I have a knife technique. Are you willing to learn it?"

The chef said, without any test.

Because in the past six months, Chen Shusheng has dreamed forty-nine times and passed the test every time.

So the test is no longer needed.

Wu Beiyou's Shuling wants to spread the Dharma as soon as possible.

He felt that when the Taoist priest sent him out, he should let him preach.

It's a pity that this scholar doesn't learn every time, and I don't know why.

It’s the same today.

When Chen Shusheng saw that the chef wanted to teach him martial arts, although he didn't know it was a dream or that he had refused, he still shook his head.

When the chef left, he continued to play happily.

I don’t know how long it took.

An old Taoist came to the backyard. Still without any test, he directly said to Chen Shusheng: "I see you have some qualifications. Are you willing to study with me?"

Chen Shusheng still shook his head and began to cut potatoes attentively.

The old Taoist also shook his head and left.

After that, no one came to ask.

Chen Shusheng is also like before, shaking the spoon every day and learning to cut vegetables attentively.

Ten years passed in such a hurry, and at the age of thirty, he began to learn cooking from the chef.

At the age of forty-five, he became a chef.

Fifty years old, he is skilled in craftsmanship and has some reputation.

Another year has passed.

When the magistrate of Lingcheng celebrated his sixtieth birthday and invited a famous chef from Qing County, he also invited him.

Although he is not the chef and only works as a helper, he feels very honored.

At the age of fifty-six, with no physical strength, he became a master and taught apprentices every day.

When I occasionally teach disciples, I often talk about the past of giving banquets to the prefect, which makes the apprentices look envious.

Sixty-two years old.

He fell seriously ill and stayed at home for three months.

Although he occasionally visited the inn after he recovered from his illness, he no longer became a believer.

Such an ordinary life.

So plain that I don’t seek the Tao or study the Dharma.

Just experience ordinary life silently.

It was also when Chen Shusheng was sixty-three years old.

Chen Shusheng, who was already an old man, went out early one morning and wandered around the Qingxian assembly on crutches.

The old Taoist who once asked him if he was studying Dharma suddenly called up Scholar Chen who was walking in the market and asked: "Do you know me?"

Chen Shusheng stepped forward tremblingly and looked at the Taoist carefully, "We know him. Forty years ago, the Taoist asked me if I was studying the Fa."

As he spoke, he couldn't help but sigh: "I didn't expect that the old god's appearance would be the same as it was forty years ago, but now I'm at the end of my rope."

"Do you regret it?" the old Taoist suddenly asked, "If you had studied the Fa with me earlier, you wouldn't be like this today."

"I have no regrets." Chen Shusheng still shook his head, "I have no regrets or complaints in my life."

"What about another life?" The old Taoist had something to say, and seemed to be enlightened.

"Another life?" Chen Shusheng was a little curious.

The old Taoist nodded and asked, "How long have you lived in Qing County?"

"Forty-two years." Chen Shusheng replied: "I was originally from a foreign country, and I entered Qing County by mistake, so I lived here."

The old Taoist asked, "Which dynasty?"

"Which dynasty?" Chen Shusheng was a little more experienced and suddenly realized: "I...I am from Xiang County, Ling Dynasty, where is this place?"

As he spoke, he paused again, as if his memory was a little fuzzy.

The last point of the veteran, "Where is it? Do you have any thoughts?"

"This..." Chen Shusheng slowly recalled something after going through the four points of Lao Dao.

When he saw that he was about to die, he was quite surprised and said: "This is... the book world? And now I am traveling in the dream of the book world?"

"Exactly." The old Taoist laughed heartily.

At this time, the scene around the two of them changed from the street to a private room in a restaurant.

The old scholar Chen also regained his youth and sat at the table.

The waiter left after serving the drinks and dishes.

The old Taoist looked at Chen Shusheng who was still surprised and said: "Let me ask you, you neither practice Taoism nor study Dharma in the book world, what do you want to practice?"

"Why study Taoism?" Chen Shusheng asked strangely: "Why study Dharma?"

"When you enter Taoism and study Dharma, of course you want to be at ease." The old Taoist smiled, "Although you have no complaints in Qingxian life, you have no complaints in forty-nine lives. But what about your waking life? Are you at ease?"

"Freedom?" Chen Shusheng asked back: "When you enter a dream, you can travel to hundreds of cities in your dream and experience all kinds of life. Isn't this freedom?"

"Oh?" When the old Taoist heard this statement, he thought about it for a while, and couldn't help but clapped his hands and exclaimed: "Wonderful! The young gentleman is really a wonderful person! He lives a life full of dreams, and his life is like a dream."
