Chapter 87 87. Save him!(1/2)

Yu'er and the other three walked through the streets and alleys and came to a house in the west of the city.

From a distance, I saw a young man in a water-embroidered ocher robe talking to a businessman-looking man in front of the house.

"Chief Lieutenant Chi, is it so early?" Yu'er greeted him.

"Miss Yu'er, Brother Kurihara, and Miss Xiaomi." Chi Lin also greeted the three of them.

When the businessman saw someone coming, he left.

"How long have you been here?" Yu'er asked Chi Lin.

"I just arrived not long ago," Chi Lin said.

Xiao Mi stepped forward and pushed the door, but it couldn't be pushed open.

Looking at the door again, there was a big lock.

Yu'er leaned on the crack of the door and looked in. There were only simple tables and chairs and broken flower pots in the yard.

"What should I do if I can't get in?" Xiao Mi turned back to Yu'er and asked.

"What did that person say just now?" Yu'er asked Chi Lin.

"He is a drug dealer from Xuanzhou. He transported medicinal materials to Beijing yesterday. He heard that the drug supervisor had changed to this person, so he came to visit. He didn't want this person to be dead, so his trip was in vain." Chi Lin said.

"Who is this Meng Fuman?" Kurihara asked Chi Lin.

"How do you know his name?" Chi Lin asked curiously.

"How do you know he lives here?" Kurihara asked.

Chi Lin was stunned for a moment, then cupped his hands and said, "Thank you for your trouble."

"I'm too lazy to bother with you, Yumu-head!" Kurihara said with a dissatisfied look on his face.

"What kind of official is this medicine supervisor?" Yu'er asked Chi Lin.

"The Drug Supervisor oversees the import and export of medicinal materials from major pharmaceutical stores in Beijing." Chi Lin said.

"How is this job?" Yu'er asked again.

"It's just supervision. Pharmacy stores are not allowed to buy and sell some banned medicinal materials. Some special medicinal materials are only allowed to be bought and sold in small quantities. Each medicinal store needs to draw up a name and submit the name of the medicinal materials that it needs to buy, and then it can be purchased with permission.

"I will also visit major drug stores from time to time to check. However, there is still a drug supervisor in charge of the drug supervisor, so in fact, I can't say much." Chi Lin said.

"So he is such an official." Yu'er nodded and said, "Does Meng Fuman have other family members?" Yu'er asked Chi Lin.

"I heard that he had a wife and children, but he disappeared without a trace after his death." Chi Lin said.

Yu'er thought for a while, walked to a house on the left, and knocked on the door.

No one responded.

I knocked on the house on the right again.

After a while, the door opened, and a woman in her forties, short with a round face, thick shoulders and slightly fat, wearing a bright red dress, came out.

When he saw Yu'er, he didn't recognize her, so he asked, "Girl, who are you looking for?"

"Sister, excuse me, I want to ask you something," Yu'er said.

"Oh, your little mouth is so sweet." The woman smiled and said, "Tell me, what's the matter?"

As he spoke, he smoothed one side of his hair with one hand.

"Do you know where Mr. Meng next door has gone?" Yu'er said.

"Ask him? Who are you?" the woman asked, stretching her head to look at Kurihara and others outside.

"My father is a merchant of medicinal materials, and I have some dealings with him. My brother, my sister-in-law, I came to the capital to do some business, and we stopped by to visit," Yu'er said.

"Then I'm afraid your running away was in vain," the woman said.

"Has he traveled far away?" Yu'er asked.

"He's dead a long time ago," the woman said.

He lowered his voice again, approached Yu'er and said mysteriously: "I heard that it was the young master from Prime Minister Xiao's house who paid for the murder."

"Ah? How could that happen?" Yu'er pretended to be surprised.

"Oh, unfortunately, the ten taels of silver I borrowed from him are gone." The woman said regretfully.

"Then is there anyone else in his house?"

"He had a woman and a teenage son. However, after he died, the woman took the child away, probably back to her parents' home," the woman said.

"I wonder where this lady's natal family is?" Yu'er asked again.

"I don't know." The woman looked at the people behind Yu'er and said.

"What a pity." Yu'er sighed.

"What's a pity?" the woman asked curiously.

"Last time, my father borrowed fifty taels of silver from him and has not yet returned it. This time, I asked my brother and sister to bring them here. I didn't expect that the trip was in vain. That's all. In this case, we will go back to Maoyuan Inn first, and then we will go back.

Just report the truth to dad again." Yu'er said.

"This is such a pity." The woman glared and sighed.

"Sorry to bother you, thank you for letting me know." Yu'er said goodbye to the woman.

The woman also closed the door.

In a house opposite, a middle-aged man in his thirties turned around, taking out his keys and trying to open the door.

Chi Lin stepped forward and asked, "Brother, please excuse me."

The man looked back at them and asked suspiciously, "What's the matter?"

"I wonder if eldest brother is familiar with this Mr. Meng?" Chi Lin said.

"Mr. Meng?" the man said, looking at the door of Meng's house, "He died just a few months after moving here, so he wasn't familiar with him."

"Do you know where he moved from?" Kurihara asked curiously.

"I don't know, it seems quite far away." The man thought for a moment and said.

It seemed that the two families didn't have much friendship, so they didn't ask any more questions and just thanked and left.

Nothing happened for a while, so a few people walked to the market.

"Sister Yu'er, why can't I understand what you just said to that aunt?" Xiao Mi had been holding back for a long time, and now she couldn't help but ask.

"You, stop thinking about eating, read more and think more and you will understand." Kurihara looked at Xiaomi and said with a smile.

"Don't worry about me!" Xiao Mi glared at him and said.

"Will she come?" Chi Lin asked Yu'er.

"I don't know, let's wait and see." Yu'er said, "By the way, who is this Meng Fuman? Does Captain Chi know?"

"Never heard of it." Chi Lin shook his head.

"Aren't you very familiar with the third young master of the Xiao family?" Yu'er asked curiously, "How could you not know that he has such a friend?"

"Has he ever had a friend like Meng Fuman?" Chi Lin heard this and asked instead.

"That's it." Yu'er nodded and said, "Can I trouble Colonel Chi to check and find out what the background of this Meng Fuman is."

"Okay, I'll go right away." Chi Lin responded and turned to leave.

"Wait." Yu'er stopped him and said.

"What else is there, Miss Yu'er?" Chi Lin asked.

"Has the third young master of the Xiao family mentioned anything to you?" Yu'er asked.

Chi Lin's face suddenly darkened, he shook his head and said, "Ziyu refused to say anything."

It seems that he also went to see Xiao Hengqi.

Yu'er thought for a moment and then asked: "Who is the head of Qianling Mansion?"

"The head of Qianling Mansion is Zheng Desheng." Chi Lin said.

"How does he act as the chief?" Yu'er asked.

"This person was born in the imperial examination, is well-versed in literature, and is good at dealing with people." Chi Lin said.

"Who did he have good relations with in the court?" Yu'er asked.

Chi Lin thought for a while and said: "This person has a wide network of contacts, including civil servants, military officers, and all over the capital."

Then he asked Yu'er: "Did Miss Yu'er think of anything?"

"No, I just asked casually." Yu'er said.

"If there's nothing else to do, Chi Lin will go now." Chi Lin said.

He immediately said goodbye to Yu'er and others and left.

At this time, Jianjia Palace was not peaceful either.
