Chapter 897: Rolling Ball Experiment(1/2)

Li Mengxi stopped all tests. The water wheel was no longer in use, the gears were no longer in use, and everything else was no longer in use for the time being.

The waterwheel system involves gears, which are more than ten times more complex than other ordinary things. This greatly increases the number of test tasks and data that need to be collected.

Li Mengxi flinched before the huge scale of testing. He had a premonition that if things continued like this, nothing else would be done except testing from white to black.

Taking the craftsmen back to Julu City, Li Mengxi summoned all the literate people in the craftsman camp, and then summoned a dozen teachers to prepare to start classes.

In the first lesson that Li Mengxi took, the tools he used included many inclined blocks with different inclinations, a round clay ball, a section of track, and several thin wooden boards covered with dust, sand, and mud.

The craftsmen and teachers sat cross-legged below, waiting with interest to begin.

Li Mengxi set up the props, and for the first test, he connected a clean long wooden board to the track with nothing sprinkled on it.

He picked up the small clay ball, placed it in the middle of the track, and drew a mark with his pen, "I'm going to let it go." Li Mengxi said to the people in the audience.

With that said, he let go of the ball.

Under the influence of gravity, the ball slid down the inclined rail with a sound, slid across the long track, and then slid onto the wooden board. It rolled on the wooden board for a while and finally stopped.

Li Mengxi glanced at the attentive people below, "Shall we take a pen and make a mark?"

"Okay!" people shouted.

Use a pen to mark the height and stop position of the ball.

Then, the second test started. This time, the ball moved a little higher.

Let go, the ball rolls down, and finally stops further away.

The third time, move the ball higher and roll it further.

After three experiments, Li Mengxi asked everyone, "Why do you think the ball rolled farther each time?"

This is too simple.

"Taller."

"Every time it gets higher, it must be far away."

"If you raise it higher, it will still be farther."

People were talking a lot.

Li Mengxi showed a surprised expression, "Does it mean that the higher the height, the farther away?" He glanced from left to right, scanning everyone's face, "Then what will happen if the height is higher?"

People laughed and said, "No matter how high you go, you will roll farther."

"Is that true?" Li Mengxi asked with a smile.

"You'll know if you try it!" someone said.

Following everyone's suggestions, Li Mengxi moved the ball to the top and put it down. Sure enough, this time the ball rolled the farthest distance.

"Yeah, it's true." Li Mengxi said pretending to be surprised.

Later, Li Mengxi asked everyone another question, "The higher you put it, the farther it will roll. What if you put it lower?"

Everyone unanimously answered that the lower it is placed, the slower it will roll.

Li Mengxi then lowered his head and tried again. Sure enough, this time he rolled out of the shortest distance.

The first round of testing is over.

Then, the slide rails with different slopes were changed and the ball rolled down from the same height. As a result, the slope was steep or not shaking, and the effect was not big, and the ball rolled out close to the distance.

Ask everyone, why is this, why is it so?

Everyone was puzzled and whispered. They thought that the trembling slope would roll the farthest, but the result was almost the same.

Everyone started to have questions, but Li Mengxi smiled and said nothing.

Then, the third round of testing began.

In the third round, the ball was at the same height and with the same slope. When one of the balls was lowered, it was lowered freely and the other one flicked it with his finger. As a result, the ball that flicked it with his finger rolled significantly further.

Everyone said that if you are good at playing, you can't go further.

After that, the fourth round of testing began.

In the fourth round, the ball fell on the same track and at the same height. This time, the board was different.

There are five types of boards, smooth, rough, dusted, sanded, and wet mud.

Li Mengxi repeated the test many times and rolled the ball across these different wooden boards in sequence. Everyone could see clearly that the distance the ball rolled was hugely different.

Li Mengxi raised a question at the right time. He looked at everyone and asked, "It is obvious that they are the same steep slope, and they are obviously small balls falling from the same height. Why are some close and some far away?"

Why is this so?"

This question is still not difficult to answer. People say that a smooth wooden board rolls farther away, while a rough one rolls closer.

Li Mengxi nodded.

In the last round, Li Mengxi conducted the most complicated experiment.

He put different ramps together. Some ramps were straight up and down, and some were curved.

Before starting a new round of experiments, he asked everyone, "Everyone, the higher this ball is, the farther it rolls. Is that true?"

Everyone answered, "That's true."

Li Mengxi smiled and said, "Well, let me ask again, do you think the ball is faster when the slope is steeper, or is it faster when the slope is gentle?"

The atmosphere was quiet for a while, and someone spoke up and said, naturally, the steeper the slope, the faster it rolls.

"Then, does it roll faster on a straight slope or on a curved slope?"

"It's straight fast! It's straight fast!" everyone replied in unison.

Li Mengxi invited several people to help. He asked several people to press the balls on several straight slopes with different slopes, pressing them at the same height. Then, with an order, several people let go at the same time.

The ball rolled to the bottom in the blink of an eye. Everyone could see clearly that the steeper the slope, the faster the ball reached the bottom.

Later, Li Mengxi added Wanpo to it and tested it again.

This time a curved slope has been added. When compared, the difference is obvious.

Everyone originally thought that the straight and steep slope would reach the bottom faster, but as a result, the rolling speed of the curved slope was not slow either.

This round of testing was repeated many times, and in the end, Li Mengxi called several waves of people to come and experience it in person.

——

In the last round of testing, Li Mengxi put three special slopes together. These three slopes have the same slope and the same length. The only difference is that one is straight, two are curved, and the two curved slopes are

The arcs are also different, one is large and the other is gentle.

Ask everyone, among these three slopes, which one rolls faster?

Most people directly say that straight slopes roll faster, because in common sense, most people think that straight slopes are steeper.

There are only three people who say that the slope rolls very fast.

Li Mengxi deliberately called up the three or two people who said the curved slope was fast and asked them why.

The three people didn't expect to be called up. When they were asked, they were looked at by a group of people. One of them felt embarrassed and changed his mind on the spot, saying that he thought the straight slope was faster.

Another person, when he sees others changing his mind, he quickly changes his mind too.

There was only one person left. When Li Mengxi asked him why, he said carelessly, "I just think the bend is fast."

Li Mengxi smiled and asked why he thought so.

The man was extremely bachelor and said, "I don't know, but I just feel like it's going to be a fast bend."

Everyone burst into laughter.

Amidst the roar of laughter from everyone, this man didn't care and laughed heartily.

Li Mengxi observed carefully, and he found that this person looked like a scoundrel. He was probably a stubborn person, and he probably liked to do the opposite of others. He probably didn't know the principle at all, and he probably

Just being stubborn is the same as deliberately being different from others.

Even so, although this person's original intention is not out of thinking, but just to be stubborn, no matter what his original intention is, he can not obey the opinions of the public and has a more questioning spirit. Li Mengxi feels that this person may be more

It might be suitable for scientific research.

After thinking about it, Li Mengxi smiled and made a bet. He bet with everyone to see whether the straight slope or the curved slope is faster. Whoever guesses correctly will get a reward.

"The straight ones are on the left, and the crooked ones are on the right. Who is straight? Who is crooked? Come on, stand up, stand up."

If there is no reward, it doesn't matter where you stand, but if there is a reward, it is impossible for anyone to give up the reward.

Almost everyone believed in their own feelings. They all believed that the straight slope was faster, and they all stood on the left. On the right, the stubborn guy stood alone.

Outliers will always be looked at differently.

A stubborn person is worthy of being stubborn. This man stood there with his hands on his hips and looked calm in front of everyone.

The test began. Li Mengxi held the ball with both hands, pressed the ball at the same height, on a straight slope, and on a curved slope, and let go at the same time.

The little ball rolled down.

In the blink of an eye, a small ball reached the bottom. It rolled faster on the curved slope.

Try again, the curve is still faster, try again, try again, try five times in a row, still the same.

The crowd started to talk a lot.

Li Mengxi gave up the venue and let everyone go up and have a try.

A teacher came up first. He picked up two small balls and pressed them. He let go and let the small balls slide down. Amidst the sound of the wind, as fast as the blink of an eye, the small ball on the curved slope reached the bottom first.

The teacher was surprised. He took the ball and tried again.

The result is still the same.

After that, I tried it many times, but the result was the same every time. Every time I fell to the bottom faster on the curve.
