42, Chapter 42(1/3)
The carriage soon arrived at Linxi Village.
Jing Li opened the car curtain and saw the scene outside, and was stunned.
The small open space at the end of the village was crowded with people. Familiar and unfamiliar faces looked at them with the same eagerness in their eyes.
"What's wrong?" Seeing that Jing Li didn't move, Qin Zhao asked from inside the car.
"No, it's nothing..." Jing Li opened the curtain of the carriage and helped Qin Zhao out.
Qin Zhao paused briefly when he saw the scene in front of him, and got out of the carriage with the help of Jing Li and the driver.
They walked towards the crowd, with the village chief standing at the front.
Qin Zhaodao: "I just want the village chief to find a few people to help me move things. What are you doing..."
"You have helped the village so much, everyone wants to come and have a look." The village chief smiled, turned around and ordered, "What are you doing here? Why don't you hurry up and move your things."
Everyone responded, and several farmers jumped on the cart, one by one, and quickly removed all the medical books from the cart.
Qin Zhao glanced around and saw that there were the Chen family, the Lin family, the Li family, and even Li Hongyu was hanging by his arm to help.
He looked away and asked, "Has the village chief recovered?"
"After drinking your medicine, those minor illnesses have been cured a long time ago." The village chief waved his hand and said, "On your side, I see you don't look well. Have you been too tired recently?"
Qin Zhao: "It's okay."
"You kid, you are just trying to be brave." The village chief sighed and added, "Ever since I heard that the county magistrate left you in the county seat, I have been worried. I wanted to go see you, but the river embankment was built in the village.
I can’t live without people, I’ve just finished all the work in the past two days.”
They walked along the road at the entrance of the village and saw from a distance that the original embankment had been raised a lot, and all the waterproof ditches beside the fields had been dug.
"...I will keep an eye on this project day and night. I will do everything as you say, so you can rest assured." The village chief said.
Qin Zhao nodded, and suddenly someone pulled his sleeve.
A little boy only as tall as Qin Zhao's waist stood in front of him, holding a basket of eggs and looking up at him: "Uncle Qin Zhao, thank you for letting Mr. Guan build the embankment. My field is at the lowest point in the village. In the past, the land rose every year."
The water will be flooded. My mother asked me to give these to you, thank you."
The boy's skin is tanned and his eyes are bright.
Qin Zhao's expression was slightly stagnant, and he said softly: "Take the things back, no need to say thank you, this is what I should do."
"This is also a little bit of kindness from the villagers, just accept it." The village chief said, "Not only his family, but also many other things from the villagers. Some of them are still at my place. I will send them to you later.
"
"Yes, just accept it."
"You have helped the village so much, we cannot fail to express your gratitude."
"You're welcome, just accept it all!"
Everyone was talking about it, and Qin Zhao couldn't resist, so he hesitated.
Someone next to him stretched out his hand to take the thing for him: "Why are you so polite to the big guys? Come on, I'll hold it for you."
It's Li Dali.
Li Dali said: "We are all neighbors. There is no reason for us to ask you to help us in vain. We would feel bad if you didn't accept us, don't you think so?"
Everyone responded one after another.
Qin Zhao had no choice but to nod in agreement.
The boy in front of him hadn't left yet, and tugged on Qin Zhao's clothes again: "Uncle Qin, I'm going to the town to attend elementary school next year."
Qin Zhao's eyes moved slightly.
Linxi Village rarely sends children out to study. Before that, only Chen Yanan went to the town to study.
"It's not just him." The village chief said, "After this incident, many people in the village want to send their children to study and learn to read. Even if it is not to gain fame, it is good to know a few more words."
The village chief paused and sighed: "In the early years, I also advocated in the village that the younger generation of children should be sent to study, but no one was willing. This time you have fulfilled my wish.
"
Qin Zhao: "That's very good."
"Okay, village chief, let's talk about this some other time." Li Dali said, "Everyone, please disperse. Don't be stuck here. We, Mr. Qin, have been traveling all day, so let him go back and rest early."
The village chief nodded and helped send everyone away.
Only Li Dali was left to send Qin Zhao home.
Along the way, they received many things from villagers, which were nothing more than daily necessities such as fruits, vegetables, bedding and cotton wool.
Jing Li and Li Dali moved things home together.
Several farmers who were helping to move books had already arrived in front of his yard first.
Fortunately, the bookcase given by Fang Tianying was large enough, and most of the space was not full, enough to store the medical books that Qin Zhao brought back.
Everyone put down their things and didn't stay long. Only one person drank a bowl of water and left.
Jing Li sent people out of the yard, but when he came back, he saw Qin Zhao standing at the table and already starting to sort out the books.
Qin Zhao brought back a lot of medical books, and before he had time to pick them up into the bookcase, they were piled randomly on the table and on the floor. Qin Zhao bent down and picked up a book from the ground, and suddenly felt dizzy and staggered.
"Stop it." Jing Li hurriedly walked over to support him, "Go and have a rest. I'll take care of these things."
Qin Zhaodao: "It doesn't matter, I still...ahem!"
He coughed without warning.
They returned to the village today after a long journey. Qin Zhao's face was not good-looking, and his cough made it seem like he was going to cough out all his internal organs. He put one hand to his lips and the other hand to support the table, looking so thin.
His shoulders shook slightly with the sound of coughing.
Qin Zhao's eyes went dark for a while, and when he regained his breath, he realized that he had been helped to a chair by Jing Li and sat down.
A layer of cold sweat broke out on his forehead, and his palms felt sticky and slightly cold to the touch.
Qin Zhao looked down and saw a dazzling red.
"..."
He closed his eyes and sighed silently.
Jing Li went to get a clean handkerchief, soaked it in water and wring it out. He wiped the cold sweat from Qin Zhao's forehead before bringing it to his lips.
Those thin lips were tightly pursed and looked horribly pale, which made the bright red at the corners of her lips even more shocking.
Jing Li's fingertips trembled, and he wiped away the blood without saying a word, then knelt down to wipe his hands.
"I just told you to have a good rest." After pouring a glass of warm water for Qin Zhao to rinse his mouth, Jing Li said, "I'm going to make the bed first. You may feel more comfortable lying down for a while."
Qin Zhao nodded.
They had been away from home for more than a month, and all the beds had to be taken out and replaced.
Jing Li was quite skilled at doing these things. He quickly took off all the original quilt covers and replaced them with a clean set.
Then he helped Qin Zhao lie down.
Jing Li helped him tuck the quilt and asked in a low voice: "Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something before going to sleep?"
"Can you do it?" Qin Zhao smiled.
"No...but I can go buy it."
"No need." Qin Zhao said, "Come up and lie down for a while."
"I'm not tired. You can go to sleep. I'll sort out the books." After Jing Li said that, he stood up, but Qin Zhao held his hand.
The warmth from Qin Zhao's palm was transferred to Jing Li's hand. Jing Li curled his fingertips and did not look back.
"Xiaoyu." Qin Zhao looked at him and said softly, "Have you forgotten what I told you?"
"...I haven't forgotten." The voice was very low, with a bit of a hoarse cry.
Qin Zhao sighed: "You just bullied me and I don't have the strength to punish you right now."
"..."
Jing Li turned around obediently.
The young man's eyes were red, and when he lowered his head, the tears that could not be held in his eyes finally rolled down and landed on the back of Qin Zhao's hand.
Qin Zhao squeezed his hand, his voice still gentle: "Come here, I'll coax you."
Jing Li bent down and was hugged by Qin Zhao.
He buried his head on Qin Zhao's shoulder and said with a cry: "I know you will be fine. As long as you find all the herbs, you will be fine. I just... I just..."
"You feel sorry for me, I know."
Qin Zhao patted his vest and whispered: "Okay, don't cry. Others will think I bullied you later."
Jing Li responded softly.
He really didn't cry for long.
To be continued...
