Pier 16(1/2)

maritime.

A pure white bra slowly fell from the sky.

Three speedboats broke through the waves and headed towards an old-fashioned lifeboat in the distance.

The lifeboat was parked on the sea, and the hull was shaking regularly with the waves. There were two women and one man in the cabin.

On the deck, there were constant moans.

"Ahhhh..."

"Take it easy..."

"I hurt!"

The girl lay on the deck with her back exposed.

A woman touched the girl's face and said tremblingly: "Be patient, my dear, just be patient."

Behind her, the boy held her back with one hand, covered her mouth with the other, and stabbed her hard.

The girl let out a muffled groan.

Sweat dripped from the boy's chin onto the girl's back.

...

...

Time, three days ago, Normandy.

An old Citroën bumped along the iron-gray road. It was a dirty yellow color and had several large suitcases tied with ropes to the top.

In the car, the gray-haired boy was wearing a plaid shirt, black ripped jeans, and a pair of blue canvas shoes, looking like an ordinary Muggle.

But sitting in the passenger seat was a nun wearing a black and white headdress. There was a hideous scar on the nun's face.

The two of them were Hoffa and Chloe who left Paris. Not long ago, they rented an old car that had changed hands countless times and headed all the way to Normandy on the seaside. From here, they planned to cross the English Channel and head to

U.K.

In the car, the car radio was playing an unknown wizard talk show. The nun was curled up in a chair, listening to the German wizard radio station.

"...Welcome to the Monster Night Storytelling, I am Oren Brian. Today, the monster we are going to talk about is Leviathan, an ancient monster.

According to legend, it and its tribe have always lived in the darkness of the sea. But Leviathan is an outlier among the tribe. As a monster, it yearns for the light on the surface of the land and ocean.

So one day, it made a wish with the wizard in the group to build a wall of the sun's true form on the surface of the ocean.

The wizard agreed to it and gave him the ability to float on the sea, but also warned it that it must return to the bottom of the sea when the sun sets on the sea, otherwise it will be abandoned by its own tribe forever.

Leviathan promised the wizard.

At dawn, it rose to the surface from the deep sea.

At that second, it was shocked by the unparalleled beauty of dawn and daylight.

It stared blankly at the sun until the sunset, and it did not return to the bottom of the sea.

In this way, Leviathan was obsessed with the beauty of the sun day after day, until one day it woke up and wanted to return to the bottom of the sea.

Only to find that its companions on the bottom of the sea had long since died, and everything they knew had been reduced to nothing in the long river of time.

It was forgotten by the God of Death and drifted alone in the sea forever, repeating a monotonous and boring life day after day, waiting..."

Snap.

The radio in the car was turned off by a confused Hoffa.

I saw him holding the steering wheel tiredly, leaning his elbows on the glass, holding his cheeks with his fists, looking like an experienced driver.

"What are you doing? I'm just listening to the stories around here." Chloe complained dissatisfied.

"You've been listening to it all day. Can you really remember so many things?"

"How do you know I can't remember if you're not me?"

"Because you're just bored listening to them," Hoffa said plainly, to the point.

"I...tsk, it's really boring."

The nun turned her head away and played with her fingers boredly, "The weather is really nice today."

"Um."

"Speaking of which, I also like this sunny day."

She seemed to be talking to herself.

Hoffa didn't answer. After a while, she suddenly asked: "By the way, what's the name of your friend, the one who is going to borrow the boat?"

"Frank, Frank Dean."

"What does he do?"

"Smuggling goods."

Hoffa yawned: "Why do you care so much? All you need to do is take the boat back to England with peace of mind."

"How old is he? Is he as old as you?"

"Huh, I'm the older one."

"I guess so. It's really rare for someone as old as you to run away." Chloe spread her hands and sighed.

At this time, the vehicle bumped up and down and seemed to hit some protrusion on the road. The tires made an unknown chirping sound and the steering wheel shook abnormally for a moment.

Crunch.

Hoffa parked the car on the side of the road.

At this moment, they came to a forest. The ground was a yellow-brown dirt road, with towering rocks and hillsides on both sides. Some fine dandelion seeds were floating in the sky.

Chloe looked at the vast woods and asked, "Are we in Normandy?"

"No, there is still some distance to go, but there seems to be something wrong with the tire."

With that said, he opened the door and got out of the car to check.

Only then did he realize that the dirt road was covered with densely packed iron scraps, some of which had punctured the left front tire of his old Citroën into a sieve.

Hoffa picked up one. He looked at the broken iron nails in his hands, and his heart was filled with a haze. This was a man-made trap.

Could it be those German wizards?

He doesn't know.

However, he felt that the people of the Imperial Wizards Association should disdain to use such low and vulgar methods.

At this time, Chloe also opened the car door and walked out. She looked at the broken iron nails on the road, groaned, and squatted down to check the tires.

"Who is so wicked?"

"Will you wait for me here?"

Hoffa said to Chloe.

He dragged the vines and climbed up the hillside. When he reached the top of the hillside, he could see the endless sea in the distance. There was a cluster of low houses on the seaside, which you couldn't tell without looking carefully.

Back at the car, Chloe was squatting on the ground, trying to clean up the broken nails on the road. Hoffa pulled her up and took off their luggage from under the roof of the car.

Then, he lay down in the car, turned the key, and pressed a brick on the accelerator. The Citroën, which had a flat tire, made a roar and crushed the broken iron nails, and drove away without a trace.

The dust kicked up by the car made Chloe start to cough. After coughing, she slowly straightened up.

"Hey, aren't we going to drive?"

"Don't open it, I'm afraid those German wizards will follow the ruts and come looking for me." He pointed to the woods next to him.

"Let's walk to the beach. If nothing else happens, my friend should be in this area."

...

...

Three hours later, the two men walked through the layers of seaside forest and arrived at the gathering place they had seen before.

It is also called the Port of Le Havre.

Legend has it that the famous Impressionist painter Monet spent his childhood here, and many of his works were set here.

This was one of the largest ports in Europe in later generations.

But not now.

The current port of Le Havre is just a seaside town that has been devastated by war.

Due to its important geographical location, this little-known little port was the location of one of the most important turning points during World War II, the Normandy landings.

But that turning point will not come for another year, and even then, this place has already been ravaged by the war.

Some broken old buildings are randomly stacked together like abstract art. There are also some corpses of soldiers or animals mixed in. The air is filled with smoke and stench, which makes people think of Picasso's famous painting "Guernica".

This place is completely on the front line, and its brutality far exceeds that of Paris.
