Chapter 3 Extraordinary talent

Spring, summer, autumn and winter, the four seasons alternate, and five or six years pass in a flash.

Xu Tianlang is already a little boy running all over the yard. The old couple is very loving to Tianlang. No matter how frugal he saves, he will not lose his children. With the careful care of these years, Xiao Tianlang has now grown into a fat boy with a thorny head.

Xiao Tianlang can walk very young, his hands and feet are very flexible, he can run, jump, and climb trees to the house. He just can't speak, and often makes strange sounds like "iwu" in his mouth, but he can't make a word. His father said it sounds like a wolf crow, so he calls him wolf crow, and wolf crow becomes Tianlang's nickname.

It was not until the age of three that Tianlang called out "Mom" in his mouth, which made his mother Aunt Zheng cry for most of the time. Only then did Tianlang start to learn to speak.

The Xu family is very poor and lives at the foot of the mountain outside the village. Tianlang likes to go to the mountains to play, climb trees, and dig bird nests. He spends a day playing. He doesn't learn much, but he can learn all kinds of birds and beasts. At first, his mother was worried about him and would not let him run away, but she couldn't bear to see him. After a long time, she got used to it and let him go.

The Xu family's livelihood is maintained by Mr. Xu. Old Man Xu goes out to the mountain to pick herbs early in the morning every day, and then goes to some medicine shops in the county to deliver goods, selling them for a small amount of money. He picks up some rags in the county town and takes them back to the village and sells them. He goes out early and returns to the place to make a living.

As Tianlang grew up day by day, Old Man Xu also liked this child more and more. No matter when he went home, the child was like spirituality, and could always know in advance and greet him a mile to pick him up. Old Xu was very surprised and asked him how he knew when his father would come back. Tianlang said that he could hear his father's footsteps from afar.

One of Xiao Tianlang's favorite things is to listen to his father, Old Man Xu, telling him stories. Tianlang likes stories such as "Heroes of Ancient and Modern Times", "Huangdi Fights Chiyou", "Jingwei Filling the Sea", "Yi Shooting the Nine Suns", "Xing Tian Dancing Dan Qi", etc., and Tianlang likes stories very much. Every day he has nothing to do, he will pester Lao Xu to tell him stories.

Once, Tianlang asked his father how he knew so many stories. His father picked up a ragged book from the pile of old goods and said, "It's from the book. My father used to work in a wealthy family and learned a lot of words from the teacher. Later, he would read some books. When the wolf grew up, he had to learn to recognize words and read books, so that he could become a knowledgeable person in the future!"

Tianlang took the book and flipped it in his hand, and asked seriously: "I want to learn to recognize words and read books. Do you have to ask a tutor to teach me?"

His father and his mother looked at each other for a while, and then said to Shuo Tianlang: "Wolf Baby is still young. If you grow up a little, you can go to school to study."

Having said that, Old Man Xu thought to himself that except for one or two large households in this village, there is not even a private school, let alone a school. There is a primary school in the county town, but it is too far away from this and the tuition is very high, which is not something that ordinary people can go to. Thinking of this, I could only shake my head and sigh.

One evening, the sun was almost sinking from the west mountain. Old Man Xu, who was entering the mountain to collect herbs, was still rushing on the mountain path. He was carrying a goat on his back and walked slowly forward.

It turned out that when Old Man Xu went up the mountain to collect herbs, he found a female goat who was chased by a wolf and fell off the cliff. The sheep's legs were broken, and there was still blood on her back, and she was struggling and whining in the grass. Seeing that the sheep could still be milked, Old Xu bandaged the wound with early medicine, carried it back, and prepared to keep it at home, so that Tianlang would drink goat milk every day.

The wild wolf chasing the goat didn't want to give up its prey. When he saw the old man carrying the goat away, he quietly followed behind, trying to snatch it back by the driver.

Old Man Xu was walking in front with a goat on his back, and he also found that he was being followed by a wolf. There was only more than half a mile away from home. He didn't want to lead the wolf to his home, and he didn't know how to get rid of the wolf. He was hesitating and suddenly saw two people standing in the middle of the mountain road ahead, which were his wife and children.

Aunt Zheng was holding a long shoulder pole in her hand, and Tianlang ran over to Old Man Xu and handed the bow and arrow in his hand to his father.

Old Man Xu was overjoyed. He took the bow and arrow, turned around and pulled the bow and arrow at the wolf, and shot it. Seeing this, the wolf immediately turned around and ran to the forest.

Aunt Zheng walked up and said, "His father, you really met a wolf. Thanks to this kid, he had to pull me to pick you up and say you were followed by a wolf."

Old Man Xu and his wife were also surprised by this. Since then, they have noticed that the wolf boy has a special ability, which is that his ears are very sharp and he cannot escape his ears.

When Mr. Xu was usually far away, he could know when he was away. The pheasants that were stocked at home were lost, and he could tell where he was hiding at the moment. He was not wrong. He often told his mother about who was fighting in the village, who had a guest from a foreign country, who had a dog born in his family, and who had a baby, and how many males and females could tell him. At first, his mother didn't believe him nonsense, but later when she entered the village, she found out that there was such a thing, and she couldn't help but be amazed.

Tianlang's specialty also played a great role in preventing attacks from beasts in the village. Since Qinghe Village is right next to the mountain, some jackals and beasts in the mountains often go down the mountain quietly, sneak into farmers' homes, and prey on poultry and livestock. Every year, several farmers are harmed. Everyone is angry and hateful, but there is no good idea.

Although these wild beasts acted mysteriously, they could be heard by Tianlang, and Tianlang would tell his mother. His mother asked Old Man Xu to buy a small gong and put it at home, and told the villagers that when wild beasts enter the village in the future, they would ring the gong to warn, please be careful.

At first, everyone disagreed, but later they found out that this was the case, and immediately organized the hunters according to the warning of Tonggong and drove the beast away. After several times, nothing like this happened in the village again.

In a blink of an eye, Tianlang is almost eight years old and is still struggling on the mountains all day long. Otherwise, he would wander around the village without any sign of it. His father, except for teaching him to read a few words after he came home every night, he would not care about him during the day, and let him play crazy all day long.

One day, his mother looked for him for a long time without seeing anyone, and finally found Xiao Tianlang sitting on the big millstone at the entrance of the village in a daze. He went to call him, but he said, "Mom, don't make trouble, I'm in school."

"Where are you going to learn by sitting here alone?" his mother smiled.

"Mom, don't laugh, it's the teacher in the school who is teaching." He said to his mother seriously: "A woman admires chastity, and a man is good at being good at being good. She knows her mistakes and must not forget them."

His mother went back and told Old Man Xu about this. Old Man Xu was shocked when he heard this and said, "I heard that several wealthy families in the village hired a gentleman from the city some time ago, and set up a private school in the ancestral hall in the village to teach the children of these families."

"Oh, then my son can really hear the teacher's lecture. His ears are so good." His mother said.

"That's great. My son is talented and so studious, he will definitely become a great player in the future," sighed Old Man Xu.

The next day, Lao Xu bought a ragged "Thousand Character Classic" from the market and handed it to Tianlang, saying, "Son, what the teacher said in class is written on it. You have to study hard. When you talk about the new book in the future, Dad will find you."

"Thank you, dad!" Tianlang took the book and left happily. In less than two days, he could read and recite the whole book.
