Chapter 4 It's an old friend

In the following days, Han Jianing forced herself to get up at 4 a.m. every morning, first to make breakfast, and then to study with her grandfather.

Every day was full and hard, tempering her undisciplined will. Although it was hard, she enjoyed it.

On this day, she was woken up by the alarm clock. She got up and sat on the bed, rubbed her eyebrows, got out of bed and opened the window of her room. From her room, she could just see the large tanks placed in the yard, and the whole yard with the wind. Dancing dyed cloth.

Some of those water tanks are filled with color materials, and some are spare water tanks.

At 4 o'clock in the morning, the sun had just emerged from the clouds, and the sunlight shining on the water was somewhat gentle.

Han Jianing stretched out in front of the window, took a breath of fresh air, closed the screen window, washed up, and then went downstairs.

"Ning Ning is up."

Shen Yueying held freshly ground soy milk and met Han Jianing who was slowly coming down the stairs.

"Grandma, why are you so early today?" Han Jianing looked at his watch specifically to make sure he didn't get up late.

"Your grandpa has already told us that we, Ning Ning, have been making breakfast for several days, so we can't let you get tired." Shen Yueying looked loving and proud.

"This is what I should do." Han Jianing took the soy milk and brought it to the table.

He found that there was only a pair of bowls and chopsticks, and asked doubtfully: "Grandma, have you and grandpa already eaten?"

"After eating, your grandpa went to change clothes and said he would take you out soon."

Han Jianing was a little stunned, "Take me out? Where do you want to go?"

Shen Yueying smiled mysteriously, "You'll know in a minute."

After Han Jianing finished breakfast, she didn't see her grandfather coming down. She was curious and nervous, so she asked her grandma. Grandma always smiled mysteriously, which aroused her interest even more.

Finally, when Han Jianing wandered to the stairs for the third time, her grandfather Han Baochang finally came out after calling for a long time and went downstairs with his hands behind his back.

"Grandpa, grandma said you want to take me out?" Han Jianing rushed over immediately.

Han Baochang handed the cloth wrapped in rice paper tucked under his arm to Han Jianing, "Take it, let's go out with grandpa."

Han Jianing held the cloth carefully. The cloth that Grandpa could wrap in rice paper must be a rare and exquisite product. She resisted the urge to open her heart to take a closer look and stood behind her obediently.

"It looks like it's going to rain today, bring an umbrella."

Grandma handed Han Jianing an oil-paper umbrella and held it in her hand. Han Jianing discovered that she had made this umbrella when she and her sister Han Jiawen were playing around a few years ago.

Even the ribs of this oil-paper umbrella were ground out bit by bit by their own hands, so they are a little crooked.

The pattern on this paper was made on a whim. She used the oilcloth to make a piece of dyed paper. In the end, she did not lose it and made this fan. Unexpectedly, it had a unique flavor.

Now it seems that Han Jianing will still be shocked by his original talent.

She looked at her grandfather's slightly stooped back in front of her, and suddenly understood her grandfather's sadness and helplessness when she said she didn't want to do tie-dye anymore.

But in the end, they still indulged her. Suddenly, Han Jianing's nose felt a little sour. She sniffed and quickly followed, "Grandpa, wait for me. You haven't told me where to go."

No matter how Han Jianing asked, Han Baochang refused to answer. He chuckled softly, and took Han Jianing from the door of his house to not far from Xizha Road, got on a small boat, and went down the Xishi River.

When they passed Shaoming Road, Han Jianing held an oil-paper umbrella and half-leaned against the boat in boredom. Suddenly she saw a boat opposite filled with lotus pods. The greenery caught her eye.

She couldn't help but lick the corners of her mouth and shouted sweetly to the boat girl: "Sister, how much does a lotus pod cost?"

When the boat girl was delivering the boat, she handed over a plump lotus pod and said, "My sister, take it and eat it."

"Thank you little sister, little sister's business is booming." Han Jianing held up the lotus pod and smiled brightly.

"Your Ningning is more lively than before."

"The child is getting older."

"In a few years, you'll be able to worry a lot less."

"Haha, I'm just looking forward to that day."

Han Baochang sat in the stern of the boat chatting with the boatman.

Han Jianing smiled and pretended not to hear.

When she was a teenager, she was not as sweet as she is now. She was peeling lotus pods in her hands, and the white lotus seeds were about to come out. She picked up one and put it into her mouth, with a hint of tired sweetness in the greenness.

This made Han Jianing narrow his eyes in comfort.

It’s this familiar smell!

When the boat paddled out of Longyuan Road, Han Jianing sat up straight. He was about to reach Dongshi City ahead. Is Grandpa going to find that old friend?

"grandfather……"

"Guessed it?"

Han Baochang looked at Han Jianing lovingly, "Don't blame grandpa for not telling you. I was afraid you wouldn't come if I told you before."

"How could I refuse to come?"

Han Jianing recalled that there seemed to be a time when she didn't like coming to Dongshi, but she had forgotten why. It must have something to do with Gu Xiayang.

The boat stopped near Wuzhen Bridge.

Han Jianing helped her grandfather get off the boat and set foot on the midnight road. Looking at the familiar buildings around her, Han Jianing felt as if she was in another world.

Han Baochang patted Han Jianing's shoulder and said, "Look at your feet and don't drop my cloth."

"I understand, Grandpa."

She clamped the oil-paper umbrella to her wrist, carefully held the rice paper bag in her hand, and followed Han Baochang. When she was almost near Zhicai Road, she turned into a small alley on the side, where was the Gu family mansion.

Han Jianing stepped into the threshold full of fighting spirit, Gu Xiayang! Here I come!

"Old Han, you came early today."

Gu Jincheng was sitting on the Huanghuali Taishi chair with the armrests already coated with starch.

Seeing the two of them, he put down the teapot wrapped in cloth in his hand, opened the cloth, and revealed a purple clay teapot made of authentic Huanglong Mountain clay with a full luster inside. He came out with a big smile.

"Hurry up and take a look at your cloth. I will go back and teach Ning Ning the craftsmanship later." Han Baochang raised his eyebrows proudly.

"Ning Ning hasn't been here for a long time. Xia Yang is still doing morning classes right now. Why don't I ask someone to call him to play with you?"

"No, Grandpa Gu, I won't disturb him. Besides, I have to go back to study in a while. Grandpa taught me a new color mixing method these days, but I haven't figured it out yet."

Han Jianing obediently refused, and after placing the cloth on the carved huanghuali coffee table aside, she took two steps back and stood behind Han Baochang. Her obedience and sensibleness made Gu Jincheng even more satisfied.

He looked at Han Jianing and said, "Go, your grandpa and I still have something to discuss."

Seeing her grandfather nodding, Han Jianing withdrew. Although she had not been to the Gu family mansion in ten years, she still knew the place where Gu Xiayang did his morning classes, so she walked directly there without anyone leading her.

Looking at Han Jianing's leaving figure, Gu Jincheng nodded with satisfaction. Among the younger generation of children, he had always liked Han Jianing, who was well-behaved, innocent and extremely talented. He smiled at Han Baochang and said: "Ning Ning is getting more and more.

It’s excellent and much less troublesome than the one I had at home.”

Han Baochang's eyes were full of pride. He touched the beard on his lips and said: "It's not as good as your Xia Yang. She still has a long way to go. Now she is willing to settle down and learn something. This is commendable. As long as she is willing to maintain this

The situation is that if it doesn’t take more than five years, we can leave the army.”

Han Jianing stood outside the wooden door of the house and saw Gu Xiayang at his desk carefully cutting pieces of cloth through the half-open window.

That face was green and tender, with an elegant and noble temperament that could not help but hold people's breath away. Han Jianing held her hands on the window sill and looked at him.

"Click, click."

There is only the sound of scissors cutting in my ears.

"Han Jianing, why did you come here today? Didn't you say you never want to see me again?"

Gu Xiayang had noticed Han Jianing a long time ago. He had been pretending not to notice. He originally wanted to wait for Han Jianing to speak first, but after waiting for a long time, he didn't see her make any move.

Han Jianing ran into Gu Xiayang's deep eyes in vain, and was stunned for a moment. Why did she feel that Gu Xiayang seemed a little wronged?

It's an illusion.

"Han Jianing, did you hear me?"

Gu Xiayang walked to the window and looked down at Han Jianing, who didn't know what he was thinking.

He lowered his head and whispered in Han Jianing's ear: "Are you still angry because I said you can't study well?"

Han Jianing felt her ears itching. She covered her ears and took a step back defensively. She looked at the young man in front of her and said, "Who can't study well? I'm studying well!"

She looked like a kitten with hairy hair. Gu Xiayang grinned, "Come on, good luck for the exam. Don't cry when the time comes. Don't act like a mock exam."

A mock exam?

Opening exam?

What is this!

Han Jianing brainstormed in an instant. In an instant, she finally understood why she didn't want to come to Dongshi during this period. It was because she didn't want to see Gu Xiayang.

The most fundamental reason is that her performance has never been better than Gu Xiayang's!

Damn it!

I still have to study!
