Chapter 153 Wire Recording

After Cheng Shi entered the safe room, according to William's instructions, he inserted the key into the safe and opened the box step by step.

After Cheng Shi opened the safe, he took out a small box inside and opened the small box with another key.

After Cheng Shi opened it, he was stunned because there was nothing valuable inside, but only a coil of steel wire.

This left Cheng Shi a little confused. He turned to William and said, "Why is there only one coil of steel wire in here?!"

William was also very confused and said: "We don't know this. The customers put everything in personally, and we don't know about it."

Cheng Shi looked at the coil of wire carefully and saw that the quality of the coil was the best. An idea flashed in Cheng Shi's mind.

He quickly continued to ask: "Manager William, do you think this is a recording wire?!"

William reacted after hearing this, looked at it carefully, and then continued: "Well, it's very possible."

Although there were no digital recorders and tape recorders at this time, there were already tape recorders.

The predecessor of the tape recorder was the wire recorder. Although Edison invented the phonograph in 1877, recording had already been realized.

However, the tape recorders at that time mainly used mechanical principles to reproduce sounds. The volume of the sounds they recorded was so low that you had to shout into the speakers when recording.

In order to improve this recording method, Danish scientist Paulson used the principle of telephone sound transmission and began to try to store sound magnetically.

Paulson wound a long steel wire onto a reel, and the wire was connected to another reel via an electromagnet.

The recording microphone is connected to the coil of the electromagnet, so that the energized electromagnet turns the electromagnetic signal in the phone into a magnetic field.

The steel wire in the magnetic field is magnetized, producing residual magnetism that varies in intensity with the sound, and the sound is recorded on the steel wire.

Because this kind of magnetic recording requires high-quality steel wire and steel tape, and is bulky and inconvenient, this method of recording is not popular.

In 1900, the magnetic tape recorder invented by Paulson was exhibited at the Paris Exposition, because this tape recorder recorded sound on a steel wire.

Therefore, compared with the gramophone, it has a unique advantage, and it was favored by people at the exposition.

Cheng Shi didn't think about this just now. If it weren't for the fact that this was the only thing in the safe, he wouldn't have thought about it.

This coil of steel wire should be what they are looking for. As for what is inside, they will know just by listening.

Cheng Shi left the storage room directly with the small box. Cheng Shi saw that the three patrol officers had also arrived.

After several people saw Cheng Shi come out, Catherine was the first to ask: "What is in the box?!"

Cheng Shi said with a smile: "A very useful thing. As for you two, you'd better come with us to the patrol room."

Cheng Shi then signaled the patrolman to take the two men back to the patrol room. He was not sure whether they were hiding anything, so he had to lock them up for a few days.

Then the group of people rushed back to the central patrol room. Cheng Shi gave Wu Nanxin and Deng Xin some new tasks on the way.

He returned to the patrol room. His first step was to go to the office to find Huang Jinrong because of the wire recorder.

In Shanghai in 1920, it was still a luxury item. There were definitely patrol houses, but they were probably not used much.

At this time, he could only find the wire recorder through Huang Huangrong, and he also had to report the case to Huang Huangrong, killing two birds with one stone.

After hearing Cheng Shi's brief explanation of the case, Huang Jinrong was silent for a moment, then made a phone call and asked someone to bring the tape recorder.

Then he said to Cheng Shi: "Very good, let's listen to it first. If this is really important, we will hand it over to the French director."

Cheng Shi said with a smile: "This thing must be very important, because two people have died because of it. I just don't know what is inside."

Soon the two moved a heavy wire recorder to Huang Huangrong's office, and Cheng Shi handed the wire to the two of them.

The two used the tightrope to find the beginning section, put it in, and after a while of manipulation, started the playback function.

At this time, the house was completely quiet, with only the rustling sound of the tape recorder starting up, and then a voice sounded soon after.

"Hello?"

"It's me."

"Well, Director Ryan called, what's the matter?"

Cheng Shi had already recognized that the voices of these two people were Albert and Ryan.

No wonder such an obvious wire recorder could record this thing. It turned out that the two of them were talking on the phone.

Ryan's voice obviously took away some of the electrical sound because his voice was recorded over the phone.

Ryan: "Don't you know something? When are you going to deposit that money for me?"

Albert: "Oh, I did everything myself. I worked so hard but only got half the money, and I had to share it with others.

My money is a little tight now, can you please understand me and give me the money first, and I will fill it in for you next time."

Ryan said angrily: "Without the identity materials I gave you, it would have been impossible for you to succeed in this matter. It's normal for me to take half of it.

Don’t push yourself too hard. If I hadn’t worked with you for so long, I would have no problem finding someone else to do it.”

Albert quickly said: "I know, I will deposit the money for you right now. After all, you are at great risk in defrauding the French directors' company."

Ryan said coldly: "Don't say such words again!"

Ryan paused and then said: "They have been arrogant to me, asking them to pay some money to give them an advantage."

Albert was obviously relieved at this time, and his voice became happy, and Albert continued.

"Yes, the French are arrogant and look down on everyone. Our behavior can be regarded as compensation for looking down upon us."

Ryan then said: "That's it, please deposit the money for me quickly, I still have something to do."

Albert smiled and said: "Okay, you are busy!"

Then Albert hung up the phone, and Albert laughed a few times. After the laughter ended, Albert said to himself.

“With this recording, I can finally do what I want to do with confidence and boldness.”

A few seconds later, the wire recorder had finished playing, and Huang Huangrong continued to listen to the conversation that Cheng Shi had translated for him.

Huang Jinrong said excitedly: "Great, I will take this thing with me and go to the French director to make a report. This is the first achievement."

Cheng Shi said with a smile: "I don't dare to take it seriously. Of course the chief inspector has good leadership, and if you hadn't believed in me, I wouldn't have been able to find this out."

After Huang Jinrong heard Cheng Shi's compliments, he couldn't hide the smile on his face. He patted Cheng Shi on the shoulder and said.

"Okay, okay, I really read you right. Without further ado, I'm going to go to the public affairs office and hand this thing over to them."

Cheng Shi looked at the excited Huang Huangrong, then said goodbye to Huang Huangrong, then turned and left the office.

Huang Huangrong then ordered the patrolman to move the tape recorder to his car and accompany him to the public affairs office.
