Chapter 358: Expedition(2/2)

Lawrence, the Earl of Tiberia, who was traveling with him, introduced:

"This is 'Belseba', also known as 'Belseba', and it is a town with a very long history."

Roger felt that he had heard of this name somewhere, but he was sure that he had never been here, even in his previous life.

Roger ordered the troops to camp and rest, and he took Henk to wander around the town.

It took him about a quarter of an hour to visit the town. It was really an ordinary town that could not be more ordinary.

At this time, he noticed that soldiers were already drawing water by the well.

A soldier in line shouted at his clumsy companion in front of him: "Hurry up!"

His companion shouted, "The well is too deep."

After a while, the soldier shook the wheels on the well and raised the bucket. He said happily: "I got the water!"

Roger suddenly remembered that this place had been recorded in the Bible.

He silently recited:

“That day, Isaac’s servant came and told him about the digging of the well, saying, ‘We have water.’

"He named the well 'Sheba', so the city was called 'Baishiba'."

Roger looked at the wasteland outside the town and said to himself:

"It turns out that this is the poor, lost mother and son, Hagar and Ishmael. After drinking the water in their skin, they found the well of "Baishiba" under the guidance of the messenger of God."

Roger's words were heard by Lawrence, who happened to pass by.

He came over and sighed, "I really don't know why the messenger of God wants to help the mother and son. If they die of thirst here, then the Elysians will not appear."

Roger shook his head, he disagreed with this view.

Just like placing the charge of national destruction on a woman, he felt that it was wrong for Lawrence to blame "Hagar" and "Ishmael".

He said, “Why don’t you blame Abraham and Sarah?

"Abraham, the ancestor of the Jews, had a long marriage and had no children, and he was older.

"Sarah gave his maid Hagar to Abraham as his concubine.

“Hagar gave birth to Abraham’s first son, named Ishmael.

"Later, the elderly Sarah miraculously gave birth to Isaac.

"Then, at Isaac's weaning banquet, Sarah asked Abraham to drive away the concubine's son and his mother with the reason that Ishmael made fun of Isaac.

“Abraham gave the poor mother and son a bag of dry food and a bag of drinking water, and let them leave.

"If Abraham hadn't driven the mother and son away for a small matter, then what would have happened next wouldn't have happened."

Lawrence sighed and said, "What should happen will happen eventually.

"The matter at Isaac's weaning banquet was just an excuse, and it involved inheritance. Sarah was going to attack Hagar and Ishmael after all."

Roger said with a sneer: “Ishmael later gave birth to 12 sons, established twelve tribes, and eventually became the ancestor of the Arabs.

"Even the prophet Mohammed of the Iranian religion claims to be a descendant of Ishmael.

"If Abraham, the ancestor of the Jews, knew that his concubine's son was so capable, I wonder if he would regret it?"

Lawrence laughed and said, "Who knows?"

“Maybe Abraham felt that no matter how his descendants fought, whoever wins or loses, he must admit that he is his ancestor.

"It's a pity that he must have never expected that it would be cheaper for us Christians in the end."

After the two chatted about some gossip, Lawrence pointed to the desert south of the town and said:

"A little further south is the Negev Desert. Are you really going to go in and find the Bedouin?"

Roger said firmly: "Yes, I've decided."

Lawrence said nervously: "I'm not afraid, but so many of us enter the desert. If we can't find the Bedouin people and are lost like Hagar and Ishmael, I wonder if the messengers of God will appear and help us find the well?"

Roger knew that this guy was actually afraid, but because of face, he was unwilling to admit it.

He said half-sarcastically and half-jokingly: "We can learn from Ishmael, and kick a hole on the ground, and maybe we can kick out a 'Zam Holy Spring'."

Lawrence's face was a little bad.

Roger stopped joking, worried that Lawrence would hold on for the sake of face.

He said: "I'm not so impulsive that I've let the large troops rush into the desert rashly.

“We all stayed here to rest, and I sent someone in to contact the Bedouin people.

“I have given them a lot of money to make a promise to the 20 merchants and shepherds who have dealt with the Bedouin people.

"Just as long as they help me find the Bedouin people and pass on the news that I want to hire them."

Lawrence breathed a sigh of relief and said, "What if the Bedouin didn't come out? Will you keep waiting?"

Roger said helplessly: "Wait for five days, if no one comes out, then we can only change the plan and we will harass the Egyptians alone.

"It's just that, you can't cross the desert and have to walk the avenue."

Roger didn't really want to enable this backup plan. After all, on the avenue that was like a line, there was too little room for slewing, and it was difficult to effectively carry out guerrilla warfare.

He prayed silently, hoping that the Bedouin would come out as he wished to accept his employment.

Then five days later, all 20 merchants and shepherds came back.

They all reported to complete the task, found different Bedouin tribes, and passed on the message that Roger needed to hire a guide.

However, none of the tribes accepted the employment on the spot and all replied that they would discuss and then make a decision.

Roger stood in the south of the town and looked at the extremely flat and arid Negev Desert in front of him.

During these five days, the desert has not changed at all, and perhaps it will not change much after waiting for 1.8 million years.

Roger was looking forward to the stars and the moon, but what he finally looked forward to was loneliness.

He thought, maybe he was still too naive.

Lawrence came to ask for instructions: "Do you continue to wait or leave according to the backup plan?"

Roger sighed and said, "Let's go, follow the backup plan and go to Alish."
