Chapter 10 Ultimatum

Late autumn in New York is the time of year when the air is clearest.

In the morning, the sun was warm, and the blue glass of the League of Nations headquarters building blended into the sky.

Several people gathered around a stone tablet at the entrance of the League of Nations building.

"Why is there an extra stone tablet here?"

"What does it say?"

"It feels very smooth and feels great."

"It's Spanish, I remember correctly."

The commotion of the crowd attracted the attention of League of Nations security personnel, and a team of security personnel came to the monument, fully armed.

Soon, the crowd was dispersed.

The staff covered the stone monument with tin foil and set up a cordon. Another group of security personnel carefully checked every nook and corner around it.

A few minutes later, explosion protection and anti-radiation experts arrived at the scene.

They held metal detectors and radiation detectors and conducted a blanket inspection of the surrounding area.

Experts confirmed that the site was safe, there were no explosives, and the radiation levels were normal.

Simple spectral analysis results show that its composition is mainly rock.

After confirming that everything was safe, two security personnel transported the stele to the League of Nations building.

After the stone tablet traveled through several departments of the League of Nations, it was finally delivered to the hands of Mason, the head of the Final Committee.

In the newsroom of the Rhode Island Telephone Pole Newspaper, Alice finished her work and scrolled through her phone aimlessly.

A message caught her attention. Although it was inconspicuous, she still noticed it.

A stone tablet appeared at the League of Nations headquarters with a text message on it.

Alice recalled the information compiled by Thomas, which mentioned a piece of stone. She was keenly aware that this was a clue of great commercial value. As an intern reporter for an entertainment tabloid, she was usually right.

When there was news about the appearance of a stone tablet in the League of Nations, Alice read it again and again. Her hard work paid off, and she found the stone tablet in a video that quickly flashed across the screen.

In the freeze frame, the image of the stone plaque was very blurry. Alice exported the picture and tried to repair it many times in the software. Part of the text was blocked. Finally, she got a few words of information, "Implementing the Madagascar Project."

Based on intuition, Alice first looked up basic information about Madagascar.

The island is located in the Indian Ocean southeast of Africa, covering an area of 580,000 square kilometers. It is the fourth largest island in the world and one of the least developed countries.

What kind of projects are being carried out on such an island? Alice persuaded the editor to obtain the information left by Thomas.

She quickly scanned the document content and found no information related to Madagascar.

It seems that the only option is to go to the League of Nations headquarters in person.

At the League of Nations headquarters, Mason hired a Spanish translator to record the contents of the stone tablet.

This is another warning from an unknown civilization to humans. To be precise, it is an ultimatum, requiring humans to start organizing and implementing the Madagascar project, otherwise the first wave of punishment will come, and the first attack locations are listed.

Mason wiped the sweat from his forehead and compared the map. Most of the target locations for the first wave of attacks were remote areas. They were neither known military bases nor the addresses of Arks under construction.

He is convinced that the unknown civilization deliberately warns humans and establishes a deterrent. From another perspective, it is not all bad. With a common enemy, humans will unite together.

Alien civilizations are threatening mankind. Such a naked threat does not take mankind into their eyes at all, and they do not take it into their hearts. Or maybe they have no eyes and no heart, so it is impossible to say whether they take it into their eyes or their hearts.

The fact is obvious, aliens are very confident in their own technology.

After Mason organized his thoughts, he notified the member states of the Final Committee. The representatives of the member states responded indifferently.

This day will come sooner or later. People who know the truth expect it to come as soon as possible. Waiting for the second shoe to drop is real suffering.

The assistant told Mason that a reporter wanted to know about the status of the monument.

Mason ordered his assistant to tell the receptionist that the monument had been destroyed because the protesters were provoking the League of Nations.

Alice could not accept the receptionist's words and argued hard, wanting to see the destroyed fragments. The receptionist said that for such a small matter, the League of Nations did not need to record in detail how to destroy the stone tablet.

Alice was rejected, and she became more convinced that the League of Nations had concealed the truth.

Returning to the newspaper office, she carefully reviewed the information left by Thomas again. She speculated that the matter was related to various governments, and they must have concealed the truth from the public.

There is still one last glimmer of hope. Alice comes to the White House for a regular press conference to try her luck.

At the regular press conference, the spokesperson gave a brief explanation. Reporters began to ask questions.

Reporter 3: "With regard to the current frequent natural disasters, the increase in the number of people in need of assistance, and the turmoil in the financial futures market, does the White House have a long-term response mechanism? Thank you!"

Spokesperson: "We cannot predict what disasters will occur in the future. We will try our best to prepare for disasters. The California fires have been effectively controlled. The turmoil in the financial market, the White House believes, is a manifestation of Wall Street's fear of disasters and is a normal fluctuation.

.Okay, next one.”

Alice stood up: "I am a reporter from the Rhode Island Telephone Pole Newspaper..."

A burst of laughter, a laugh of contempt, interrupted the question.

Alice ignored it and continued: "A so-called stone tablet sent by aliens appeared in the League of Nations a few days ago. The White House also received a similar stone tablet before. What does the spokesperson think of this? The details of the 'Madagascar' project mentioned on the stone tablet

What is it? Is our government ready to deal with the invasion of alien civilization? Thank you."

Spokesperson: "We were unaware of the appearance of the stone monument in the League of Nations. I have not seen the rumors about the Madagascar project you mentioned and cannot comment on it. The main responsibility of our government is to protect citizens from external invasions, including alien civilizations. Thank you.

.”

The spokesperson stopped accepting questions, and Alice quickly asked: "How is the progress of the Doomsday Ark built by the federal government in New Mexico and Nevada?"

Spokesperson: "Doomsday Ark? The place you mentioned belongs to a military base. No comment. The press conference ends here. Thank you everyone."

The spokesperson said as he left the venue.

Back at the newspaper office, Alice carefully analyzed the words of the presidential spokesman.

First of all, he avoided the question of whether there was a stone monument in the White House. It can be assumed that there was a stone monument in the White House.

Secondly, the spokesperson did not comment on the Madagascar project, which means he did not deny the project.

Finally, the spokesperson hinted that the government is responding to the invasion of alien civilization.

As for the most critical information, she still has no idea what the Madagascar Project is.

Alice sorted out the information she had recently obtained and listed some doubts. Combined with Thomas's mysterious death, there must be something big involved, but she couldn't figure it out.

If an alien civilization wants to invade the earth, is it necessary for the League of Nations and the government to conceal the truth? Once people know that aliens have invaded the earth, mankind will have a common enemy and will become more united.

Alice couldn't figure it out for a moment, so she told the editor her doubts.

The editor-in-chief did not want anyone to be involved in this matter anymore. Thomas' incident caused the newspaper to lose a capable person.

Alice, however, insisted on knowing the truth.

The editor-in-chief said meaningfully:

"Young man, you have done a very good job. I still hope you will stop investigating this matter, Fox, the Wall Street Journal..., they must know more than us, and they have remained silent. They must be under pressure from the outside.

"

"The public needs to know the truth and they have a right to know the truth."

"I used to think so too, but unfortunately, we are just an entertainment tabloid. Our purpose is not to tell the public the truth, we just want to use the truth, and the truth is our tool to make money. If the government is building a doomsday ark, the ticket will not be cheap.

.”

"With the truth, people will make the right choices."

"Child, if you knew that you would be in a fatal car accident if you went out today, what would you do?"

"Don't go out."

"What if, as everyone knew, New York City was going to be destroyed by a nuclear bomb tomorrow, and there was a nuclear shelter in Rhode Island?"

"Most people will flee to Rhode Island."

"Yes, Rhode Island cannot accommodate so many people. Traffic in New York will be paralyzed and even a stampede will occur. In order to enter the shelter, people will do anything to get into the shelter. What a terrible picture."

"Are you saying that we'd better just let the aliens invade?"

"Human beings have faith only if they don't know what will happen tomorrow. When faith collapses, social order also collapses. To deal with possible crises in the future, the best choice is to do what everyone should do."

Alice seemed to understand but the editor's attitude was already very clear. She finally asked:

“Do you know about ‘Project Madagascar’?”

"Madagascar plan? This word is often taboo."

"so

y, a slip of the tongue, it’s ‘Project Madagascar’, have you heard of it?”

"Never heard of it. Well, that's the end of it."

Not getting the results she wanted, Alice felt a little depressed and left the editor's office.

The more she thought about it, the more she wondered why the editor-in-chief refused to talk about the Madagascar project.
