15. Gold and silver cups and mud cups
Unfortunately, I quoted a doctor of engineering from a prestigious Ivy League school and said: "Look at the Chinese Mathematical Olympiad Gold and Silver Awards, and there are a lot of young classes. But the success rate of these people is very low, and it is almost unheard of that to reach the level of ‘outstanding’. Why? Everyone has done questions since childhood. This is almost no different from rote memorization in liberal arts."
Although the tactics of the sea of questions and rote memorization can achieve "glory" at one time and another, it is completely different from the outstanding achievements created by hands-on practice.
Rousseau once pointed out that children are the sons of nature. Letting them learn spontaneously and automatically from the environment is much more effective than traditional book education. What education needs to start is the inner motivation of students, and the knowledge imparted is just the fuel of inner driving force. The essence of education is to pay attention to the development of students' inner world.
If students are interested in things, they will become selfless when doing research, and learn related knowledge will deepen. In this way, the talents cultivated will get closer and closer to outstanding, and inventions and creations will emerge one after another.
People who can follow their interests to develop are lucky, and their achievements are amazing. Darwin went deep into nature to study his favorite animals and plants, and founded the theory of evolution. Bill Gates did not finish his studies at university, so he pursued his favorite software and created his own Microsoft empire. Buffett pursued his own investment interest and became a stock god. There are so many successful examples like this.
What society, government and educational institutions need to do is how to create space so that people can follow their interests without any scruples, fully tap their potential, make outstanding achievements, and better serve society.
The habits that have been developed over the years are not something that can be changed overnight, but if we can work together in this direction, the reward for giving back to society will be rich and will be of great benefit.
