Chapter 7 The Heart of a Hero

After Hodge followed Jon out of the Manhattan Police Department, Jon carried Hodge all the way toward the New York City Bureau.

Along the way, Jon kept talking about the interesting things that Hodge did in the police station when he was a child, while Hodge could only sit aside and smile helplessly.

"By the way, what's wrong with you for Daniel? He's been very busy lately." While driving, Jon pulled the topic to Hodge's purpose this time.

"Nothing, it's just something about..." Thinking of the question he wanted to ask, Hodge suddenly couldn't say it, and hesitated and didn't know how to answer it.

"Are you the troubles of youth?" Seeing that Hodge couldn't say anything, Jon asked curiously.

"Uh...why, how do you say it...If you meet someone you have the ability to rescue, but if you save him, you will harm another person, then what should you do? Or not to save him?" After hesitating for a moment, Hodge gritted his teeth and decided to ask first.

"Is this what you want to ask?" Jon looked at Hodge with surprise. "This question seems contradictory. Saving one will harm the other. No matter who encounters such a thing, it will feel very troublesome."

Hearing Jon's words, Hodge nodded repeatedly in agreement, which was also the reason why he had been hesitating and even went to find Daniel and Lisa. After all, his choices had changed a lot to the world. Without Spider-Man, criminals in New York would be more rampant and the police would become more dangerous.

Although Daniel and Lisa may not need to be on the police, who can guarantee that? Perhaps something extremely important happened, then they will take the lead and stand in the front. That is the responsibility brought by their status, isn’t it?

"So what are your thoughts? Hodge? Let it go?" Jon looked at Hodge with his face changing, and had to sigh in his heart. This kid has grown up and knows to think about things.

"Will let it go... But if those two people are very close and you are a good friend with one of them, what should I do? Can I really let it go?" After hesitating for a while, Hodge felt more and more that he seemed to be trapped in a pit, which is so deep...

Although he wanted to stay out of the matter and not do anything, he always felt that if he did this, he would definitely lose something, and it was still something very important.

"Haha." Looking at Hodge's confused look, Jon smiled slightly, "This question is very complicated. If I say it personally, as long as I can help others, I will be very happy."

After stopping, Jon looked at him as if he didn't understand and continued, "As for the problem you mentioned, it's very realistic. No matter what it is, if you want to succeed, there will always be certain sacrifices, so..."

Speaking of this, Jon patted Hodge on the shoulder, stopped the car, and said to Hodge with a cautious look on his face, "Do your best, everything is always imperfect, and all we can do is to make it closer to perfection."

"Okay, we're here, go and meet your parents." After saying that, Jon got out of the car early, while Hodge stared at the tall bald man blankly. Unexpectedly, this guy actually had a philosophical cell.

With Jon leading the way, Hodge quickly entered the police station and found Daniel, who was sitting in the office processing a lot of documents and Lisa, who was making tea.

When the two saw Hodge at first, they were surprised at first, but looking at Hodge who was brought in by Jon, Daniel said with a serious and self-blame look, "Hodge, have you done something bad?" His tone was full of tension.

“…”

Hodge looked helplessly at Daniel and Lisa with a nervous expression. Why do these two people have the same virtue as Jon? Are all the people who come out of the Manhattan Police Department weird?

"No, I just wanted to tell you something, but after going to the Manhattan Police Department, I found that you were not there. I happened to meet Uncle Jon, and then he brought me here..." One was so serious that he blamed himself and the other looked nervous. Looking at the appearance of the two of them, Hodge quickly explained that after all, it was a misunderstanding that made his dearest two people sad. This was not what Hodge wanted to see.

"Oh, that's fine." Hearing Hodge's explanation and Jon nodded to confirm, the two of them breathed a sigh of relief. Although Hodge was adopted by them, they regarded Hodge as their own. They were busy with work in recent years, so they could not take care of him wholeheartedly.

The two were very afraid that their son would go astray because of this. This was not only something that both parents didn’t want to see, but also something that both policemen didn’t want to see.

It can be imagined that parents are policemen representing the law and justice, while their son is a criminal. If this gap occurs around people with poor psychological qualities, then that person is likely to go crazy.

"Jon, thank you." Daniel, who relaxed, greeted Jon on the side.

"It's okay, Hodge is not just your kid, right? Daniel?" Jon shrugged, "Then you guys chat slowly, I'll go back first."

"Goodbye, next month is Hodge's birthday, will you come? Wells, who was on the outside, called to attend!" Lisa and Jon hugged each other and spoke.

"Of course, I'll come with my family." Jon grinned at Lisa's invitation, touched his bald head.

After Jon left, Daniel asked, "Hodgie, what's wrong with you so much? Is it about college after graduation?"

"No, I decided to go to Imperial University. What I want to say is another question." As he said that, Hodge told Jon's previous question.

Daniel and Lisa stopped Hodge's question and looked at each other. Lisa rarely showed a serious face, and then asked, "So what do you think of Hodge?"

"Me?" The first time Hodge felt a little uncomfortable when he saw Lisa so serious.

Looking at Hodge with a distressed look, Lisa sighed and walked slowly to Hodge, stretching out her hands to hold his handsome and tender face, "Hodge, do you know, no matter what happens after you save this person, Daniel and I will stand by your side."

“Because things are always imperfect, and all we do is do our best to get it close to perfection.”

Looking at the serious and kind face in front of him, although Hodge didn't know why he had inexplicably spread the problem to himself, his heart was warm.

This is the affection and happiness he had never had in his previous life.

Looking at Hodge's face eased, Lisa continued, "Hodge, do you know your favorite superhero when you were a child? Superman, Flash, Batman."

Hearing Lisa bringing the topic to this point again, Hodge nodded despite his doubts. After all, when he was a child, he wanted to know whether this world was a superhero world or an ordinary world, and did a lot of things that made Lisa and Daniel laugh.

For Lisa who can still remember every bit of her childhood, Hodge was moved and strengthened her beliefs in her heart, protecting her family from those criminals and villains.

"So, do you know what those superheroes have in common?" Lisa asked softly when she saw Hodge nodding.

"Well, of course I know, they are all amazing..." Hodge's words choked Lisa, and Daniel, who was sitting on the side, also twitched his lips, looking like he wanted to laugh but didn't dare.

"Well, they are really amazing, but what I want to say is something else, such as...heart!" Seeing Hodge answering the question, Lisa had to be straightforward.

"Heart?" Hodge was stunned by Lisa's words.

Whether in his previous life or in this life, whether he watches movies or comics, he always strives for the coolness and powerful strength of those superheroes.

He has never paid attention to things like "heart".

"Yes, it is the heart, that heart full of love, kindness and justice. They all love humanity deeply, so they help humanity through a disaster. Because they are kind, they always help the weak. Because they are just, they have always used their abilities to fight criminals. This is the heart, a heart that only superheroes have. If they have powerful power, then they will eventually go to sin and destruction."

"And when you have this heart, you can really become a superhero. Helping others is your first step, right?" Lisa touched Hodge's face and spoke slowly, with her eyes filled with unreleased tenderness.

Hodge was stunned. What's going on? Isn't it just a problem that is equivalent to the previous life of "XX and XX fell into the river to save whom first? Why did it come to me? And what does Lisa mean in the last sentence?

Could it be...Hokey had a result in his heart that he couldn't believe and faced.

Hodge suddenly looked up at Daniel who had been sitting at the desk silently. He wanted to know what Lisa's last sentence meant the same as what he guessed.

Seeing Hodge look at him, Daniel said in a deep voice: "Hodge, you are ruthless and smart. Indeed, we knew you were unusual for a long time."

After getting confirmed by Daniel, Hodge's face turned pale, "When did he find out..."

Looking at the pale-faced son, Lisa felt ache, but she didn't say anything, but turned to look at Daniel, who was sitting on the chair.

"Since you were in elementary school... I was debugging the garage camera that day, and I saw you..." At this point, Daniel raised his hands and gestured.

"Release the car, right?" Daniel didn't say it, and Hodge continued.

"Well, indeed, I was surprised at that time...and the big and small earth pits in the yard..."

"Think I am a monster... yes?" For this world, humans have no other expressions to special people except for repulsion and indifference. It's like Parker punching Fei Xu several meters away, but being scolded as a monster... And when he hit five people alone, he was rejected as a freak...

So when he heard the two of them say this, Hodge's first reaction was that they would not reject me, so drive me away... Hodge lost his normalcy for the people he was closest to. If Daniel and Lisa really had fear of him, they could have sent him away as soon as they discovered his ability.

As the saying goes, "Doctors do not treat themselves." No matter how wise a person is, once what happens to him and his relatives, he will be disturbed by various factors.

"No..." Daniel immediately shook his head when he heard Hodge say this, "You are my son, aren't you? He studied first every year and even won the first place in the national test. It is my pride."

"Yes, no matter what you become, you are my son." Lisa, who had been holding Hodge's arms, also spoke at the same time, with a nervous expression.

"Then why now..." Hearing the two of them, Hodge, who was originally pale, his eyes were slightly red.

"Oh, you say this. When Lisa and I heard your doubts, we thought you wanted to be a superhero like the ones I saw when we were a child. However, we hesitated because of some problems, so we wanted to let you know what you need to be a superhero."

"Yeah, yes." Lisa, who was standing beside her, also spoke immediately.

"Then why did you look heavy and Lisa become..." Having said this, Hodge couldn't continue.

"Uh, aren't it all the superheroes in the comics enlightened when they are in trouble or are confused?" Lisa, who was standing beside her immediately followed.

There was still a look on her face as if she was taken for granted...

"I..." Seeing Lisa's magical finale, Hodge's emotions that had just been brewing in his heart were instantly blown into the Caribbean Trench by a 12-level typhoon. Isn't this just playing with me?

"Okay, no matter what you do, as long as you do it right, we will stand by your side." Looking at Hodge, who had already started to be tantrums, Daniel smiled and spoke.
