Chapter 1 Lanruo Temple
The vast mountain stretches for hundreds of miles, with one peak as steep as a sword reaching the sky. Deep in the lush forests on the mountainside, there are many temples, houses, and Buddhist temples, but most of them are abandoned and dilapidated.
In the courtyard of the temple, two monks, one fat and one thin, were sitting on the stone steps, talking and talking about Buddhism.
The fat monk is in his thirties, with a fat head and big ears, a shiny face, and a rich look. The thin monk is about seventeen or eighteen years old, with delicate features and beautiful eyes.
"Tell me, why do you want to return to secular life?" said the fat monk.
"I want to get a wife."
"Who do you like? Master is going to propose marriage to you."
"The one who came to burn incense recently," the young monk said.
"Well, he looks handsome, but he's already betrothed to someone else, so it's too late." The fat monk said.
"I want to eat meat." The young monk hugged his knees with one hand and drew circles on the ground with a branch in his other hand.
"What kind of meat? Chicken, duck, fish, pig, beef, sheep, fried, braised, steamed or braised? I'll get it for you in the afternoon." said the fat monk.
"I want to eat dog meat and hot pot."
"Okay, yellow dog, black dog or spots?"
"I want to eat in the main hall, in front of the Buddha." The young monk said.
"No problem, I'll call the abbot and your senior brother together. We haven't eaten meat for some days. Let's talk about life while eating." The fat monk said.
"That's enough!" The young monk suddenly stood up and threw the branches in his hands. "I don't want to be a monk, I don't want to, I don't want to!"
He roared loudly, and spittle flew out, landing on the fat monk's face.
"Everything must have a reason!" The fat monk said without any hurry or irritation, wiping his face.
"Reason, reason? The reason is that this broken temple should be called Lanruo Temple!" The young monk pointed to the temple behind him with an excited expression.
"Lan Ruo means a quiet place, a pure place. Buddhism originally seeks purity, so what's wrong with it?" the fat monk said calmly.
"There is a big locust tree behind the mountain. It must be a thousand years old, right?" The young monk pointed to the back.
"It's at least fifteen hundred years old, hundreds of years earlier than Lanruo Temple." said the fat monk.
"Fifteen hundred years ago, look at those teeth and claws. The waist of the tree is thicker than a house." The young monk said excitedly. "And that mountain is called Black Mountain. Why is it so dark? Who gave it such a bad name?
?”
"The locust trees are more than a thousand years old and naturally have luxuriant branches and leaves. The name of the mountain is Black Mountain because there are strange rocks in the mountain that are black ink and hard as iron."
"A thousand-year-old tree demon and an old black mountain demon." The young monk said.
"Amitabha, where did you hear these weird rumors? Don't worry, with Lanruo Temple here, there will be no monsters in the mountains." The fat monk said.
"Lanruo Temple? This name is unlucky and attracts ghosts. Besides, you gave me this unlucky name. Wusheng, why isn't it called seeking death?! What kind of brain can come up with such an unlucky name." The young man said more and more.
The more excited he gets.
"The Dharma name is just a title." The fat monk said seriously.
"The title should at least be decent. My name is Wu Sheng, and there is a monk in the temple named Wu Chu. One of them has a short life span, and the other has no brains. What a broken name! And you, empty, hahaha."
The young man suddenly couldn't help laughing.
"I'm sorry, I just can't bear it anymore." He wanted to laugh at the mention of this Buddhist title.
How many brainless people would come up with such a Dharma name.
"As long as you are happy." The fat monk said with a cheerful smile.
"Anyway, I don't want to be a monk here. I'm going down the mountain." The young monk turned and left.
"Wait a minute." The fat monk suddenly stood up and took out a piece of paper from his pocket with words and a handprint on it. "What do you think this is?"
"What?"
"The deed of sale, and your fingerprints are also there. If you want to go down the mountain, you can redeem yourself for one hundred taels of silver."
"It's blackmail. When did I get one hundred taels of silver from you?" The young monk was stunned for a moment, then became angry.
"It's not you, it's the donor who sent you here when you were unconscious." Monk Kong said.
"Don't lie to me. You're a shabby temple. You don't have a village or a store. Who would send me here? And even if this shabby temple is sold, it's not even worth a hundred taels of silver. You must be fooled."
Here I am!" Wu Sheng said.
"If you don't believe it, we can go to the Yamen at the foot of the mountain to see if this deed is genuine." The fat monk smiled, "Besides, you agreed at the beginning."
"Shit, when did I agree? You guys shaved me off while I was still in a fucking coma. Who else shaved my head? Cut a big gash on my forehead!" said angrily.
Pointing to his forehead, he saw a scabbed scar, as long as one finger.
"It's not bad. After all, it's the first time and I'm using a kitchen knife again." The fat monk said with a smile.
"Ah?!" Wu Sheng was stunned, "You used a kitchen knife to shave me?".
"It's not me, it's the abbot. Besides, I asked you at that time, and you nodded. You nodded your head in a coma, which shows that you dreamed of entering my Buddhist sect."
"Go away." The young monk waved his sleeves.
"Then pay back the money." The fat monk was not in a hurry.
"No money."
"Then become a monk here."
"I shouldn't do it!"
"Then follow me down the mountain to find the county government to make a decision." The fat monk said.
"Just go, no one is afraid of whom!" the young monk said with a pinch on his neck.
Anyway, he won't be a monk here.
"Okay, I'll go and clean up. We'll go down the mountain after noon."
Just as he said this, a figure rushed in from the outside, bypassed the main hall in the middle, and went to the back, as fast as a rabbit.
"Is that the abbot?" the young monk asked.
Since coming to this temple, he has seen the old monk. He is sixty or seventy years old, skinny, with three long beards, and a pair of bright eyes. He appears and disappears all day long, doing God knows what.
"Yes." Monk Kong said.
"You're old and running so fast, be careful of falling." Wu Sheng said.
"The abbot is in good health. He just came back from going down the mountain to beg for alms."
"Go down the mountain and ask for alms?" Wu Sheng's brows twitched, feeling a bit unhappy.
After tidying up a little, they left the temple after noon.
Coming out of Lanruo Temple, a stone step leads directly to the mountain. On both sides of the road, there are wild grasses, as tall as a person. The woods are dense and the sunlight cannot fall through the gaps in the leaves. The stone path is covered with moss. There are wild flowers blooming on the roadside and butterflies.
There are birds flying in the air and singing in the forest, creating a lively scene.
Ouch, suddenly a strange roar came from the distant mountains.
After hearing this, Wu Sheng suddenly stopped and his expression turned ugly.
"What's wrong, Wu Sheng?" The fat monk walking in front stopped and turned around to ask.
"That was a wolf howling just now, right?"
"Probably, the mountains and forests are dense, so it's normal for wolves to be there, but the sound sounds far away from us," the fat monk said.
"Shall we go faster?" Wu Sheng said.
"good."
The two monks quickened their pace.
The road in the mountain was bumpy and uneven. After climbing over a ridge, we saw another peak. The long and slender road seemed to have no end. When they left the temple, the sun was still shining in the sky. When they saw the smoke, the sun was already hanging on the mountainside.
, may fall at any time.
Standing in the mountains and looking far away, there is a village at the foot of the mountain, with houses scattered in an orderly manner, a river flowing in front of the village, and the smoke coming from the kitchens making it lively and peaceful.
"We will spend the night in Ningjia Village tonight and go to the county tomorrow."
"Ningjia Village?" Wu Sheng was stunned.
"Ning Caichen?"
"What Ning Caichen?" The fat monk was stunned.
"Is there a scholar named Ning Caichen in the village?"
