150 kilometers west of Naha Air Base, 6,000 meters above sea surface. Two large US MC2A early warning aircraft are staring at every move in the air in both Taiwan and mainland China. Around them, there is a squadron F-16c/d type fighter aircraft that are always guarding to ensure the safety of this most advanced US early warning aircraft.

The mc2a early warning aircraft is a new generation of main early warning aircraft that the US military finally developed in 2013. It is used to replace the military's original e-2, e-3 and e-8 early warning aircraft. It was transformed based on the Boeing 767 platform and took 10 years to develop the total R&D cost up to more than 10 billion US dollars. Its functions are of course greatly improved compared with previous generations.

The main airborne early warning radar adopts an x-band active electric scanning array, which can work in two modes: synthesis aperture (sar) and dynamic target indication (mti) at the same time, and simultaneously completes the functions of detecting and capturing mobile targets to ground targets.

This new radar has a detection range of 600 kilometers for third-generation fighter jets, a cruise missile that flew across the seas of 300 kilometers, and the installed meter-wave radar has a detection range of more than 500 kilometers for fourth-generation fighter jets. The entire early warning system can monitor 20,000 aerial and maritime targets at the same time, and can handle and track 2,000 of them that are the most worthy of attention, and then lock 100 aerial targets at the same time to command and guide fighter jets or air defense weapons to perform air interception missions.

More importantly, mc2a combines radar early warning with advanced command and control systems, and realizes similar functions to the theater joint combat tactical system studied by Duke. It lacks more advanced intelligent combat technologies such as more intelligent target hazard coefficient analysis and accurate intelligent allocation of attack firepower, and requires more relying on human experience and judgment rather than automatic guidance of the system.

Even so, the performance and functions of mc2a are incomparable to Taiwan's e-2t early warning aircraft.
