Chapter 11 The Gathering (Part 2)
"Shabini, I have been famous for your famous mother, Mrs. Shabini for a long time." Jack Silver sneered, "I heard that she had seven husbands, Shabini, and
Maybe you will have a stepfather soon.”
"You-" Brace Shabini finally had the courage to look at Silver because of his anger.
"Ah, it seems you're not a softie after all." Silver said meanly, "I really don't know what you inherited from your mother. Her skin is so dark and ugly, and she doesn't look very smart either - you shouldn't have picked it up."
"How dare you say that?" Shabini's body trembled with anger. Harry was very happy that someone else could feel the feeling of being attacked by Silver's poisonous tongue. He felt a little sympathetic to Shabini.
"Okay, OK." Slughorn looked a little unhappy, "Jack-- you are in the same year as Shabini, don't go too far."
"Sorry, Professor." Jack Silver's apology seemed insincere. "I couldn't stop it for a moment. After all, Mrs. Shabini is a famous and beautiful witch. Brace Shabini doesn't look like her."
"What do you want to say? Silver." Brace Shabini strongly restrained his desire to take out his wand. He knew very well that he was not an opponent of Silver, not to mention that there was a professor Slughorn, who was too irrational to do it.
"I think you are as interested in the inexplicable death of your biological father, Mr. Shabini and his six exes, as I do." Jack Silver smiled, "especially, they left a large fortune for Mrs. Shabini after their unexpected death. Mrs. Shabini is now one of the rare wizards in England. Her wealth is no less than that of some wizard noble families."
"I don't understand what you are talking about." Brace Shabini shut up and seemed to have made up his mind to stop speaking.
For some reason, Harry found Slughorn a little disappointed - he felt regretful that the show had ended early.
Then it was Neville's turn: It was a very unpleasant ten minutes. Because Neville's parents were both famous Aurors, they were tortured by Bellatrix Lestrang and two Death Eaters' accomplices.
Crazy. At the end of his interview with Neville, Harry got the impression that Slughorn still had doubts about whether Neville inherited his parents' talents.
"Now," said Slughorn, who moved his seat in a grand manner, like a host who grandly launched a big star, "Harry Potter! Where to start? The rumors about you can fill a whole book. The Daily Prophet once told your story in succession. But based on those reports alone, I actually know very little about you, the hero who defeated the Dark Lord."
He looked at Harry in contemplatively, as if Harry was a fat, delicious and juicy quail, and then he said: "The boy who survived the disaster, the excellent Quidditch seeker, the son of the miracle who defeated the Dark Lord, the star of the Savior. Haha, these titles of yours are amazing."
Harry didn't say a word. Belby, McClagan and Shabini were staring at him. Silver ate his food slowly, and it seemed that he was not affected at all.
"Of course," Slughorn said, looking at Harry carefully, "for many years, rumors have been going on... I remember that-yeah... After that horrible night-Lily-James-You escaped death-some people say you must have extraordinary power-"
Shabini coughed softly, obviously to show that he was suspicious and ridiculous. Harry's sympathy for him soon melted like snow and ice. He felt that Jack Silver was too polite to Shabini just now.
An angry voice suddenly came from behind Slughorn.
"Yeah, Shabini, you're also very talented on some level, especially when it comes to being pretentious."
"Oh, my goodness!" Slughorn chuckled gently in comfort. He turned his head to look at Ginny. Ginny was glaring at Shabini through Slughorn's big belly, "You have to be careful. Brace! When I passed by the young lady's carriage, I saw her cast a wonderful bat spirit spell! I dare not mess with her!"
Shabini still didn't speak, just looked contemptuous, and didn't seem to believe Ginny could do this.
"Anyway," Slughorn said, turning back to Harry, "you're really a boy full of secrets, and I think I'd love to hear you share some stories, if you're willing to."
Harry didn't know how to answer positively, Slughorn looked at him with a smile, and he had to imitate Shabini to pretend to be deaf and dumb, and hoped that Slughorn would let him go and find the next "victim". Although this seemed a little sorry for Ginny.
Slughorn saw that Harry didn't want to say anything, so he had to distract the topic endlessly and recalled the past verbally, but Harry had an intuition that Slughorn would not let him go, and he was more curious about himself.
Throughout the afternoon, Slughorn talked about many interesting stories about the outstanding wizards he taught back then. They happily joined an organization he called the Slug Club when they were at Hogwarts. The whole conversation was basically about Slughorn and Jack Silver. Shabini and McLagan could occasionally interject with a few words. Neville, Ginny and Harry were left aside and could not interject at all, and Baby became a forgotten person.
Harry was feeling uncomfortable and wanted to leave quickly, but he didn't know how to get out to be polite. Finally, the train drove through a long thick fog area and entered the red sunset. Slughorn looked around and blinked in the twilight.
"Oh, it's almost dark! I didn't notice that they've lit the lights! You'd better go back and change into your colonel's robe. McLagan, you must come here if you have time to borrow the book about the giant tailed beast. Harry, Brace - welcome you to come at any time. So do you, Miss." He blinked at Ginny, "Okay, you go, go quickly!"
"Jack, aren't you going to leave?" Slughorn asked after the others left, looking at Jack Silver, who had no intention of leaving at all.
"Professor Slughorn, Dumbledore asked me to send you a message," said Jack Silver.
