Chapter 1323 Melos (Don’t forget the national humiliation and strive for self-improvement)

Early in 1942.

Melos was ordered to lead a US delegation to leave New York and set off for the Republic of China. His identity as OSS Far East Coordinator and his military rank was Lieutenant Colonel.

The delegation first made a short stop in Brazil, then crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Africa, until Cairo, and then passed through Colombo to Kolkata. The entire trip lasted for a week.

When the weather station was destroyed, Melos was visiting Kolkata. He had a long talk with the senior US military adviser to New Delhi and the naval officers in Shancheng who came to visit.

The content of the conversation between the three people involved the politics, economy, military and other aspects of the government. In terms of their understanding of the Republic of China, Melos was obviously not as good as the two above.

Military adviser and military officer stationed in Shancheng reminded Melez to be careful of Dai Chunfeng and Zuo Chong, who are the most critical and powerful figures in the intelligence system of the State Government.

After introducing Zuo Chong, the naval officer asked in a low voice: "Is it feasible for Lieutenant Colonel Mellos and Director Deng Nowan to control the Republic of China?"

As soon as this sentence was spoken, Mellos stopped him: "Wait, don't discuss this matter here, we must be cautious."

Deng Nowan, the first director of OSS, served in the British military intelligence department and was supported by the US Army behind him.

Melos represented the interests of the Navy, saying that he brought the other two into the secret room and did not walk out of the room until dark.

A few days later, Merles boarded the last civil flight to Shancheng via Mandalay. The plane first transferred in Kunming, and then after several hours of thrilling flight, he finally arrived at Shancheng safely.

Compared with the past, the show of the National Government welcomed Melos and his group this time was quite shabby, with only a dozen people and several unlicensed cars coming to greet them.

When Melos walked down the gangway, he first saw a middle-aged man. The other person was slightly shorter than him, about 1.67 meters tall.

This man was wearing a dress of Kaki fabric, and the clothes were ironed flat, with the buttons of the top line up to the neckline, with a turning over bottom collar at the top.

According to the information collected by Oss in advance, this clothing was a unique government civil servant uniform in the Republic of China, named after the founding father of the Republic of China.

Thinking to himself, Melez stretched out his right hand to the middle-aged man: "Hello, Mr. Dai."

He knew that the other party was Dai Chunfeng, the director of the Military Control Commission. Compared with the photos provided by the naval military officer, Dai Chunfeng himself looked older, with a bright look and looked like a difficult guy to deal with.

"Hello, Mr. Melez, on behalf of the Chairman, I welcome you." Dai Chunfeng had a smile on his face and a kind attitude, which made people feel as if they were bathed in spring breeze.

But Lao Dai's strong accent made the American translator frown. He had no idea what the senior official of the government was talking about.

At this time, a man came from the side and recounted Lao Dai's words in standard English.

When Melez heard this, he saw a smiling young man standing beside Dai Chunfeng, which reminded him of a person, Zuo Chong.

Intelligence shows that the other party is Dai Chunfeng's most trusted subordinate, leading the Military Control Commission to carry out several top-secret tasks, with excellent intelligence and leadership skills.

Sure enough, Dai Chunfeng's voice sounded: "Mr. Mellos, please allow me to introduce you. This is my student and my deputy, Zuo Chong."

Melez's eyes stayed on Zuo Chong for a moment. He carefully observed the most dangerous intelligence personnel in the government, and nodded slightly.

Zuo Chong nodded slightly and expressed his welcome to the US delegation with skilled diplomatic rhetoric. Then the staff of both sides shook hands and greeted each other, and the atmosphere was very harmonious.

After chatting for a while, Melez took two boxes from his entourage and gave them to Dai Chunfeng. Dai Chunfeng curiously opened the lid.

The etiquette of Westerners is different from that of the Republic of China. Only by checking the gifts immediately after receiving them can you show respect for your guests. Lao Dai still knows this custom.

The two boxes were opened one after another. The first one contained a Melass camera, which looked small and delicate, which was very consistent with Lao Dai's identity as an intelligence official. The second one was a .380 short-barrel automatic pistol.

Dai Chunfeng liked this gun very much. At least on the surface, he took off his original gun and handed it to Zuo Chong, and replaced it with Melez's gift.

Afterwards, Lao Dai warmly invited the US staff: "Everyone, Dai has prepared a little wine, please enjoy it."

Zuo Chong translated this sentence to Melez. The other party agreed and said polite words. Who said that foreigners do not understand the worldly ways, they will still stand up to toast when eating a mat.

After the greetings, both sides got into cars and drove towards the mountain city area. Dai Chunfeng, Melez and Zuo Chong got into the same car.

On the way, Dai Chunfeng and Melees were chatting about gossip, but Melees became more and more surprised and even a little scared.

Because when talking about his sons, Dai Chunfeng could name all of them, and the other party also knew that his car in China was blue, and he was like a transparent person in front of the Military Control Commission.

When the welcome banquet began, Mellos had a deeper understanding of the Military Intelligence Collecting abilities. Seeing that there were no chickens and ducks on the table, he casually asked if the people of the Republic of China did not eat poultry.

Dai Chunfeng's answer was, my student said you don't like eating these, isn't that the case? Zuo Chong, who was standing beside him, immediately put on a humble expression when he heard this.

Melos finally knew why OSS and ONI attach so much importance to the Military Control Commission, no wonder Washington wanted to cooperate with Shancheng.

If the government is so professional in collecting information about Japan, then the United States must do everything possible to make good friends with the Military Control Commission, which can save the lives of countless young men and greatly increase the chances of the US military's victory in the Pacific battlefield.

During the meal, Melez tentatively proposed that the US Navy needed meteorological and hydrological data in the southeast coastal areas of the Republic of China, as well as the Japanese mine defense situation.

Dai Chunfeng laughed and clapped his hands. Someone immediately presented a thick stack of information. Members of the US delegation opened the information and were shocked.

The document contains the Japanese military intelligence from the southeast coast of the Republic of China, Ryukyu, Annan, Myanmar, Thailand and the Philippines, with very detailed contents.

The Japanese garrison location, the commander's name, resume, technical equipment level, quantity, and fleet patrol route are all the information that the US military urgently needs at present.

Looking at the surprised Melez, Dai Chunfeng was in a good mood. He promised the other party as if he was showing off that the Military Control Commission could get any information if the OSS wanted.

Melos was skeptical about this, so he made a fuss and turned the topic to specific matters of Sino-US intelligence cooperation.

The US hopes that the Sino-US Special Technical Cooperation Institute will launch strikes and destruction on the Japanese navy, army, commercial banks, mines, factories, warehouses and other military facilities in the occupied areas as soon as possible, weakening the strength of the Japanese army.

To achieve this goal, the Military Control Commission needs to provide the US with all information on the activities of the Japanese Army and Navy in China and assist in solving the food, accommodation and transportation issues of US personnel during their stay in China.

The US side provides the weapons, radio equipment, meteorological equipment and transportation and medical equipment that the Military Control Commission urgently needs, and helps the Military Control Commission train the Special Operations Forces.

The cooperation content is not much, but it is related to intelligence, operations and funding. Therefore, Dai Chunfeng did not make a statement on the spot, but only said that he would consider it seriously, and after that, he started to toast again.

Melos was very dissatisfied with this answer. He pointed out without hesitation that after the war between China and Japan, although the strength of the Military Control Commission had improved, it was plagued by problems such as funding, equipment, technology, and personnel quality, and developed slowly.

If the Military Control Commission is willing to cooperate fully with the US side, in addition to the previously agreed terms, OSS can also provide special funds of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. Most importantly, there is no record of this batch of funds.

Melez's words meant telling Lao Dai that as long as the Military Control Commission cooperates with the US, the money will be given to him private benefits and it will be available every year.

Halfway through, Melez turned to look at Zuo Chong and other accompanying staff, saying that officials at all levels of the Military Control Commission would also receive "special funds" of varying amounts.

The American was generous. Dai Chunfeng winked at Zuo Chong. Zuo Chong picked up the wine glass and met Melees, asking a question.

"Mr. Mellos, I know you are in a hurry, but don't worry, things need to be solved one by one. I want to know, how do you train the Special Operations Force?"

Mellos Naiqi introduced the training courses of the US, mainly the use of American carbines, submachine guns, pistols and explosives, related knowledge of guerrilla warfare, etc.

After the training is completed, the trainees must conduct an assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be assigned American weapons. Those who fail the exam will either be eliminated or retrained.

Dai Chunfeng and Zuo Xin nodded. It is not that everything will be fine with advanced weapons. Training is essential, but there is something that must be explained clearly.

Lao Dai emphasized that during training, US instructors can only teach the use of weapons and cannot involve the political part.

Melos smiled bitterly in his heart. According to the plan of Washington and Dunnowan, they can take advantage of the opportunity of Sino-US cooperation to control the Military Control Commission step by step and let the other party serve the United States.

With the strength of the United States, it is only a matter of time before the Japanese are defeated. Mastering the Military Control Commission can help the United States gain intelligence advantage in post-war Asia.

Going further, the United States may have the opportunity to build a puppet regime in the Republic of China and use it as a bridgehead for the capitalist world to fight against Red Russia.

All of these cannot be separated from the support of the intelligence system, or the support of Mr. Dai.

But the people of the Republic of China were not fools. They were obviously prepared for infiltration, and Deng Nuowan's plan was about to end before it even started.

It seems that it is necessary to put some pressure on the Military Control Commission to prevent the other party from becoming more and more arrogant. Melos's expression becomes serious, and he slowly lowers his chopsticks and asks.

"Mr. Dai, Mr. Zuo, the murder of an American citizen at the Weather Station, I wonder if there was a result?"

Lao Dai and Zuo Chong looked at each other and smiled, thinking that they were here to make trouble, but you have Zhang Liang's plan, and I have a ladder.

Suddenly, a muffled sound came from outside the window. The Americans thought they had encountered a Japanese bombing and looked a little panicked.

"Gentlemen, don't worry." Zuo Chong stood up to comfort everyone, and said to Meles with a smile: "Please wait a moment, we will discuss the case later, okay?"

Melez didn't agree. He wanted to see what tricks the people in the Republic of China were playing, and delaying time would not solve the problem.

After waiting for almost half an hour, the door of the hotel's private room was opened. Gui Youguang walked in with heavy steps, followed by a group of small spies and... several corpses.
