(2) Notes to Chapter 14

Note 1: Chai Yixin (1898~1943), nicknamed Laiyu, courtesy name Zegao, was a native of Jianxing Town, Nannan County. He was a patriotic anti-Japanese general who died in Changde during the Anti-Japanese War. Chai Yixin was born in a peasant family. He graduated from Hechuan Middle School in his early years.

Later he went to Guangdong to study at the Whampoa Military Academy (Fifth Period, Artillery Section). While at the Whampoa Military Academy, he met the Communist Li Mingke

After waiting for friendship, he immediately joined the Communist Party of China. After graduating from the military academy, Chai was assigned to work in the Ninth Army of the National Revolutionary Army, and served successively as company, battalion, and regiment commander. In 1943, he was promoted to chief of staff of the 57th Division of the 74th Army and commander of the 169th Regiment.
