Section 832 An egg and a tael of silver

Yunluo led Yan Chenyu through the door hole of the bamboo beautiful place. It is a tree-shaded path formed by the branches and leaves of the osmanthus tree. The tall osmanthus trees on both sides are lush and lush, forming a natural tree-shaded welcome Avenue, which will not be sunburned even under the scorching sun. The bamboo forest and the osmanthus tree meet at the bamboo beautiful place, which shows the elegance of the owner of the house.

The flowering period of osmanthus is mostly around the Mid-Autumn Festival, and it can last for about 20 days, but the flowering period is only one week. At this time, the dew is cold, so there is also the saying "cold dew silently wet the osmanthus". Whenever the flowers bloom, the garden is filled with a clear and leisurely fragrance, which makes people intoxicated.

At this time, if you come to the garden, you can enjoy the sweet fragrance to your heart's content. When the breeze blows, the fine osmanthus flowers will flutter like rain, falling all over your hair and clothes.

The small building I see now is a "Song of Books", with wood carvings as screens and vines hanging down. There is a couplet under the front of the door: the clear air is like orchids, and the humility is like bamboo; the joy of love is in the water, and the quietness is the same as the mountain. It has the taste of Confucius's "The kind of benevolent enjoys the mountains, and the wise enjoys the water."

From the name of the small building, we can know that this is the owner's collection of books and reading. Osmanthus flowers have always been closely linked to the successful career of people in the old days. Huang Zhiyun planted osmanthus flowers in the garden and built a bookstore, of course, hoping that their descendants would be outstanding in their careers and have a clear career.

The Book Series is located on the east side of Dongshan and the southernmost part of Qiushan. The mountain and the building are cleverly combined, and the building has become the most elegant ending of Qiushan. From the stone steps in the mountain to the upper floor, this building stands on Qiushan and faces south, with three rooms, and a total of six rooms up and down. It avoids the main tour routes in the garden, and the building style is also simpler.

There is a small courtyard in front of the building, with a sycamore tree planted, and the main trunk has slanted out of the eaves. It has a meaning of "the deep courtyard of the lonely sycamore tree is locked in the clear autumn". The pink wall on the east side is a large leakage window in the shape of a crabapple flower, and the window is divided into several banana trees that are not rainy even if it is rainy. The water-milled brick flower window in the west is the largest leakage window in the garden, through it. The Xuanshi and wintersweets in the entire winter mountain are all in sight.

What's even more amazing is that it is on the same horizontal line as the circular leaking window of the western wall of the winter scenery, so our sight can actually pass through the winter scenery and see the bamboo in the spring scenery.

Ji Cheng said in "Yuanye": "The scene is borrowed". Although the courtyard is small, there is only one sycamore tree. However, the banana tree that is cleverly "borrowed" through the flower windows to the wall, the wintersweet and the sycamore tree in the courtyard create a quiet and indifferent interest.

At the southern end of the bamboo viewing scenic area in the north of Geyuan, there is a pond with beautiful scenery beside the pond. There are pavilions, pavilions and corridors. The rockery made of yellow stones by the pond, fish swimming in the pond, leisurely and contented.

Chenyanmen. Dongpo has a poem saying: "It is better to eat without meat than live without bamboo; without meat, make people thin, without bamboo, make people vulgar." There are bamboo forests everywhere in the garden to show that the owner is vulgar. After passing the bookstore, in the south of the garden, it is the daily living place of the owner Huang Zhiyun. It is a group of traditional buildings that sit in the north and south, front and back garden.

Opposite the gate is a luxurious large eight-character grinding brick carved screen wall. Mr. Chen Congzhou said in "Garden Tradition"; "The gorgeous screen wall is affixed with water grinding bricks. The carved patterns are embedded in the middle, like a garden gate, and it is exquisitely made."

Jin Xuefang, a Qing Dynasty man, said that Geyuan was: "The gate and horse gathered celebrities." Legend has it that the houses in Geyuan's heyday were themed "fortune, wealth, longevity, wealth, and joy" and arranged vertically. Five luxury houses were opened in sequence, with more than 200 original houses.

Although only the three roads in the east, middle and west are preserved, but each hall and one beam and one pillar all show the owner's exquisiteness and luxury of home life, confirming the wealth of Yangzhou salt merchants' financial resources. The three roads of the southern residential buildings in Geyuan have their own themes. They are Fu, Lu, and Shou. The corridor between the two blue brick walls is called Fire Lane, also known as Fire Avoid Lane and Fenghuo Lane.

The East Road residential building has three entrances in front and back. The eaves tile dripping water and doors, windows, and doors, windows, and pavilions are decorated with deer patterns, which are used as deer to represent wealth. It is often said that people regard food as the most important thing, so let’s take a look at the “kitchen” of the Huang family. This is the last entry house of the East Road building, with three rooms and two phases. There are seven beams from the roof ridge to the eaves, and the Paishan has a middle column (stand-post style). It is one of the very typical Yangzhou residential units.

The original kitchen has long been abandoned. In order to allow people to understand the historical situation more intuitively, this house is resumable in accordance with the traditional kitchen layout. There is a large pot and stove in the kitchen. Food boxes, wine jars, benches and other kitchen utensils. Standing there, you can carefully consider the scenes of the chefs and servants traveling around, making soup and making fine dishes.

The salt merchants in the Qing Dynasty pursued delicious food to the extreme. Legend has it that Huang Zhiyun's daily breakfast was: bird's nest, ginseng soup, and two eggs. His son Huang Xiaoyuan often prepared more than a dozen snacks and more than a dozen porridge to entertain guests in the morning. This also shows the strong financial resources of the Huang family and the luxury of life. Regarding Huang Zhiyun's diet, there are still two anecdotes that have been widely circulated among the people.

One or two silver-patterned eggs. One day, Huang Zhiyun was idle and looked through the thin notes. He saw that "two eggs" were underneath "one or two silver-patterned eggs" and said in surprise: "Even if the eggs are expensive now, it will not be that level." He immediately asked someone to call the chef and scold him for committing fraud.

Unexpectedly, the cook said: "The eggs I send every day are not comparable to those on the market. Each one or two taels of silver is very cheap. If the owner doesn't believe it, please find someone again. Please taste it and distinguish it." After that, he resigned.

Huang Zhiyun re-selected someone to replace him. The price of eggs was reduced, but the taste was not as good as before. I changed several chefs in a row, and it was like this.

In the end, I had to ask the original chef to make it again, but the next day the egg tasted the same as before. Huang Zhiyun was puzzled and asked the chef: "What method did you use to make the egg taste so delicious?"

The chef said: "I have hundreds of hens in my family. I use ginseng, atractylodes, red dates, etc. to grind them into powder every day and add them to the feed. Therefore, there is such a delicious thing. Just send someone to my house to see it." Huang Zhiyun sent someone to see it. As he said, he will never mention changing the cook anymore.

He stewed Huangshan bamboo shoots with meat. Huang Zhiyun loved bamboo. Not only did he have bamboo in his name, but he planted bamboo in his home, and wrote the name of the garden with the bamboo meaning, but he also had a luxury related to bamboo: he liked to eat bamboo shoots.

Of course, all the bamboos in the garden are ornamental bamboos, and bamboo shoots are not suitable for eating, and even if they are eaten, they are limited. Therefore, Huang Zhiyun likes to eat Huangshan bamboo shoots the most, and he has to eat them while they are freshly dug out.

But Huangshan is far away from Yangzhou, how can we eat fresh unearthed bamboo shoots? This is simply fantasy to ordinary people, but for the rich salt merchants, it is different. He does not have to make a painful choice for poor literati such as Su Dongpo.

Now, someone has designed a movable stove for him. After picking bamboo shoots in Huangshan, they immediately washed and cut them, and put them in a pot with the meat.

Then the porter carried the stove to Yangzhou. When they arrived in Yangzhou, the bamboo shoots and meat were simmered. A plate of bamboo shoots and meat was so exhausted. You can imagine the silver you spent during the period.

This is a restaurant with three rooms and two galleries, and the structure is exquisite. The beams and columns of this hall are made of nanmu, so they are called nanmu hall. The structure of the restaurant is round, lifted beam, and the materials are strong. The two ends of the beam are slightly "scrolled" and carved arcs, and the front and back are placed. The hall is decorated with wood carved pavilions and a rear screen door.

The two rooms are wood carved floor covers, with wall panels placed around the walls, straight columns in the hall, and the alum stone pillars under the columns are "round and round", with simple lines and refined shapes. In the middle of the restaurant are three large round tables and low stools with marble inlaid surfaces. Looking at this hall, it is neat and spacious, and generous.

The couplets of lacquer books written by Jin Nong, one of the eight strangers in Yangzhou, were hung in the screen gate. "The amount of drink is not just about getting drunk; the elegant feeling is to travel to the immortals." The couplets of the pillars are: The family is full of joy and joy: the big soup has a taste, which is reading.

The restaurant is composed of columns, round beams, round rafters, round tables, round stools, couplets and columns are held, and life experiences are revealed by talking about wine and talk about soup. It is obvious that this is a place for banquets and gatherings. "Circle" means reunion and reunion. The owner's mind and interest are revealed in couplets inside and outside the building.

This is the place where the Huang family receives general visitors and handles daily affairs, "Qingmei Hall" means that purity is beautiful. Being honest and honest in officials and being innocent and innocent is a state of thought that people pursue.

There are corridors and arches on the front of the hall. The structure of the hall is characterized by a lifting beam. Although the shape is simple, the workmanship is more sophisticated. In addition, the hall is 60 cm lower than the floor outside the Nanshou Gate, which is even more ancient and can be regarded as a legacy of the Ming Dynasty.

The lower ends of the beam have a garden curve, which is called "Spit and Si" by craftsmen. They are also called "Ba Hai". The wood at the end of the strip is carved with Ruyi Cloud style, and this wood is called "Shui Wave Machine".

The front and back silhouettes are shaped like boat tents. In the south, it is generally called boat tents, and in the north, it is called rolled-pier. The screen door is installed in the back of the hall and the Ming Dynasty, and the wooden carving floor-to-ceiling cover is placed twice.

Qingmeitang has two couplets, and the external link is: "There is no difference between passing on the family and reading it is either farming or reading: the good old man has good plans but diligence and thrift." Farming and reading are passed on to the family, and diligence and thrift are reflected in the traditional Chinese thoughts and attitudes of life, and reflect the idea of "farming and reading are passed on to the family, diligence and thrift are the basis".

There is also a couplet hanging above the middle hall: bamboo should be covered with rain and pine and snow; flowers should be practiced in Zen and wine, and fairy." It was written by Wang Shishen, the eight evil spirits in Yangzhou. If the rain and snow add the charm of bamboo and the posture of pine, then flowers and wine can make people feel calm and peaceful and far away from the world.

The family-oriented reading conveys the owner's respect for traditional culture. Bamboo, pine, flowers and wine conveys his elegant feelings and a state of transcendence. It also best interprets Huang Zhiyun's dual identity as both a businessman and a literati.

The three decorations on the table represent peace and longevity. Before you reach the middle road, stop and take a look at the Donghuo Lane in Geyuan, Yangzhou. The Huo Lane is a narrow passage that is needed for the family's houses in feudal society. It allows the residence to be separated and matched as needed, and also serves as fire and theft prevention.

Fire Lane is also a feudal etiquette, order of superiority and inferiority, and where transportation and communication are. For example, servants and chores, female family members enter and exit, and guests can only enter and exit from Fire Lane when they want to go to the back garden, and cannot enter the hall and enter the back garden.
