Chapter 15 Good things come in pairs

When it comes to Chester Carlson, most of the general public look confused and know very little about the "elerophotography" he invented, but they are very familiar with another name of "electrophotography", electrostatic copying, and "Xerox", which is named as the brand.

That's right, this Xerox is the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, who often appears in the legendary life of Jobs and is used as a background board. He first developed the graphical interface of a personal computer, but his mouse was stolen by Jobs and Bill Gates.

Xerox is based on electrostatic copying technology. In less than a decade, it grew from a film-producing company to a technology giant with an annual revenue of $500 million. Carlson, who invented electrostatic copying technology, became a billionaire and later was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

Evan was a university professor in the last life, and he had a free and rich life. He had a different hobby than ordinary people, that is, collecting antique electrical appliances. As one of the extremely important inventions in the electrical era, Evan would naturally not let go of the copier for essential offices, and there were collections from electrostatic copying to laser copying. Therefore, Evan knew the development history of the copier. After Evan established Flag, who became the "inventor", the first thing he thought of was to grab "Xerox" in his own hands. In order to achieve this goal, Evan first threw out instant noodles to get the first pot of gold, and then to determine whether Carlson and his "electronic photography" existed in parallel world, he specially commissioned Albert to go to the Patent Office to inquire. The result surprised Evan. Carlson did indeed exist, and he did own the patent for "electronic photography".

This alone certainly didn't surprise Evan.

In his previous life, in order to continue to develop and promote his electronic photography technology, Carlson joined the Bartel Institute in 1944. But in this world, Carlson's invention journey was even more difficult, not only was it expensive, but he also had not found a company or investor interested in his technology until now after obtaining the first patent. After learning about this, Evan naturally would not miss the opportunity, so he asked Carl to go to New York before the instant noodles were truly realized.

Time does not wait for others, and opportunity does not wait for others. Who knows if someone suddenly discovers the value of electronic photography and takes the lead?

You should know that among the companies Carlson has been in contact with, the well-known IBM and Kodak. With their strength and talent at this time, it is not impossible for them to suddenly change their minds and bring Carlson under their command.

After receiving Evan's instructions, Carl went to New York early and returned to Sacramento after two weeks.

Before the final test, Evan took the time to listen to the report of Carl's trip to New York. The place where the two met was a coffee house near the official residence, recommended by Nina.

Carl brings back three news about two good and one bad.

The bad news was that after several contacts, Carlson did not agree to resell the patent. This book was as expected by Evan, so he was not surprised at all.

The good news is that Carlson agreed to another plan, that is, Alphabet Company bears all the funds required for the subsequent research and development of "electronic photography" technology, at the cost of exclusively authorizing the full set of patents and technologies to Alphabet Company.

This result made Evan very happy. With this news, the previous bad news was not considered bad news.

As for another good news, it was related to instant noodles. Carl's original purpose in going to New York was to negotiate instant noodles with a company, but unfortunately he failed to reach a consensus. Later, he focused most of his energy on how to convince Carlson, so he did not spend any effort to develop new instant noodles buyers. He had already made up his mind to choose one from the existing potential buyers and sold them. Carl believed that Evan would not object. Unexpectedly, things had a turnaround on the way back.

"You mean, this guy named Ichiki Ando not only bid 500,000 yuan, but also did not buy out the patent. As long as the global exclusive authorization is exclusive? The additional conditions just do not allow us to interfere with this unestablished industry alliance?"

After listening to Carl's retelling, the first thought that popped up in Evan's head was: "Is this guy a fool?"

This is $500,000. Amor Food, which had the highest quotation before, only paid 150,000.

"This name...is he an RB person?"

Carl shook his head: "Well, to be precise, Japanese, he has American nationality."

"Why do you think he has to give such a good price?"

Carl thought about it and gave a reasonable explanation: "He is Japanese, you know, in the war that just ended, he was treated unfairly in the United States and Japanese, and he suffered huge losses, and their hometown is in a mess at this time, so he wanted to go back."

"He thinks instant noodles are a good industry, so..."

Evan nodded to express his understanding. During World War II, there were two major concentration camps, one established by Germany, locked up Jews, and the other established by the United States, locked up Japanese. Speaking of which, there were also such autocratic cases in the United States, which claimed to be the base of the Free World, which is really ironic.

The concentration camp brings disaster to hundreds of thousands of Japanese Americans in the United States. It is normal for Ando Ichiki to leave the United States and return to China to develop.

"Evan, your opinion is..." Carl saw Evan falling into deep thought, thinking he had a different opinion.

"Just him!" Evan came to his senses and gave Carl's decision, "You can do what you want afterwards."

"OK!" Carl quickly agreed. After two months of busyness, the company finally had an income.

"By the way, when will Carlson move here from New York?"

“It depends on when we prepare the lab.”

"As soon as possible, I hope to see him during the winter vacation. I can't wait to communicate with him on static photocopying."

"Yes, I've actually found the place, but it just takes time to decorate. You know, the laboratory has special requirements. Carlson had an accident when he was doing experiments. For safety reasons, I think it's necessary to waste some time."

"I support this. In addition, I think in addition to the laboratory, you can help him settle the place he lives in."

"Is this necessary? What if someone doesn't like it?"

"Of course it's necessary. Carlson is a baby and deserves us so much. It doesn't matter whether he likes it or not. The point is to show our sincerity."

"Okay, I'll listen to you." Carl agreed on the surface, but actually didn't agree. He had already decided to hand over this matter to which subordinate to do it.

"Is there anything else?" Evan took a sip of coffee, and after he was really hard to put it in, he vomited back. "Just just listen to you, the coffee is cold."

"It's gone!"

"Then let's get here today. By the way, remember to call me the day Carlson arrived and let's pick people up together."
