Chapter 6 Display
On October 1, 1945, lawyer Albert Patton came to the governor's residence as agreed. At first, he did not take today's itinerary to heart, but regarded it as a social activity to consolidate his relationship with the governor's family. Unexpectedly, this day was remembered by him in his future memoirs.
He clearly remembered that on that day he was wearing a decent black suit, wearing his favorite brown hat, without an assistant, carrying a briefcase in person, and ringing the doorbell around nine o'clock. He was greeted by Susan, a maid hired by the governor. Up the stairs and walked through the familiar corridor, Albert came to the living room and met the owner who had met him.
Two teenage girls, who were about the same height, stood in the living room. When they saw Albert who was brought in by Susan, they smiled and greeted him.
As the governor's family's personal attorney, Albert naturally knew them.
The teenage girls are Evan and Virginia.
As the master, Evan took the lead in greeting and said, "Thank you for coming, Mr. Patton, you haven't seen each other for a while, and you are still so energetic."
As he said that, Evan stretched out his right hand.
Albert replied: "Thank you, Evan, I'm so glad to be here for you."
The two shook hands, and then Virginia also stepped forward and gave Albert a voucher.
“Happy weekend, Mr. Albert!”
"Miss Virginia is beautiful again!"
After a brief greeting, the guest and the host and the guest sat down.
Evan did not waste his time and said straight to the point: "Mr. Patton, I invite you to come on the weekend, because there is a patent case to be entrusted to you."
"Patent case?" As a lawyer, Albert naturally didn't like nonsense. The governor invited him to come, and what he had to do was naturally inseparable from his profession, but he was still a little surprised when he heard that it was related to patents.
Before coming, he had imagined many possibilities, and even guessed whether the young master had committed something and needed him to help get rid of the crime, but he never thought that he would do such a serious thing.
Albert was stunned for a moment, and quickly replied to normal, asking, "Evan, can you tell me in detail?"
"What exactly does the patent case you are talking about include? Is it just a patent application? Or does it require other additional work?"
"I'll talk about this later," Evan smiled mysteriously. "Before this, can I ask you to taste a special food?"
"Uh...I've used breakfast..." Albert was about to refuse, but then he realized that the so-called food should be related to the patent, so he changed his words: "This is my honor."
As soon as Albert agreed, he saw maid Susan walking towards the living room with a tray. A round stainless steel tray was placed on top of a soup bowl with a lid and a kettle.
"Please trouble you, Aunt Susan!"
"No, this is what I should have done."
Susan placed the tray on the low table in the center of the living room, held the handle of the kettle with her right hand, and lifted the lid with her left hand to reveal what was inside the bowl.
Aber looked at it and found that there were yellow unseen dough cakes inside, with some green and red dotted on them. He thought a little bit about it and guessed that it should be diced vegetables and diced meat.
Seeing Susan's actions, Albert understood that she was going to make the mysterious food that Evan said on the spot.
But, what's mysterious about this thing?
What does this have to do with Evan’s so-called patent?
Albert was both puzzled and curious.
Under Albert's slightly curious gaze, Susan tilted the kettle and poured the water into the bowl. He did not hold it until the water surface was over, and then covered the lid back. Seeing the rising mist, Albert knew that Susan poured the bowl with boiling water.
Is this planning to cook noodles directly in boiling water? I have never seen it before? This is also common? Can the noodles you make be eaten?
Although he was full of doubts, Albert still held back and said nothing. After a while, Susan lifted the lid and nodded at Evan.
Before Evan could speak, Albert got up and came to the shorter table, squatted down, picked up the fork on the tray, and started to try it.
Albert first stirred the soup noodles, then rolled up the noodles with a fork, put them into his mouth, and took a small bite.
After eating this dish, Albert put down his fork and did not do anything again. Although Albert is not a foodie, this bite is enough to let him know that this side is not a delicate food, and at best it can be eaten.
But...the taste is not the point.
Albert thought keenly.
After sitting back on the sofa, taking the tissue from Susan handed over to wipe his mouth, Albert, who was thinking about the real key of the food, heard Evan ask, "Mr. Patton, how do you feel?"
Without time to think about it, Albert looked at Evan and said, "If Evan was concerned about the taste of food, I can only say two words, I can eat it."
Speaking of this, Albert deliberately paused and carefully observed Evan's reaction. Seeing that Albert did not continue to talk, Evan was not in a hurry, but looked at Albert with a smile.
After a while, Albert continued, "Besides that, I was curious about its unique cooking method."
"Bang!" Evan snapped his fingers and smiled, "Awesome, Albert deserves to be Albert, with a sharp eye."
"So, Albert, do you think he has the value of commercial development?" Evan's question was a bit contemplated.
Albert is the Warren family lawyer and has been old friends for decades. Evan seems a bit rude and irrelevant to his size. But Albert is not dissatisfied with being offended at all. Instead, he is full of interest and his heart turns like a flash. After thinking for a moment, he replied, "Yes, of course there are."
"I think about it, this kind of noodles..."
"I'll call it instant noodles," Evan explained in time.
"Well, this name is good," Albert praised, "Instant noodles, its advantages and disadvantages are clear at a glance. The most prominent advantage should be its simple and time-saving cooking method. In addition, from its appearance, I guess its cost should be low enough."
"Simple, time-saving, low-price. How can products with this attribute have no commercial value? I think at least the Supreme Allied Command in Japan will like it very much, whether it is as refugee relief supplies or military rations."
"In addition, a large number of workers in the middle and lower classes will also like it."
Evan nodded when he heard this, and said as a confidant, "Albert, I agree with you, except for the military ration."
"What am I wrong?" Albert asked exaggeratedly.
Evan smiled and said, "What you just commented on is not very good. I don't want to be the culprit of the mutiny of the military."
Albert was stunned at first, then laughed happily.
It is obvious that Evan is just a joke to say this. But from another perspective, this also shows that Evan is cautious enough. This quality is still important to him as the governor.
"Evan, you think so much."
Albert praised again.
"Thank you!" Evan ended his idle chat with Albert and entered the topic of today: "Albert, since you also think instant noodles have commercial value, then, let's cooperate?"
"Cooperation?" Albert nodded slightly and asked, "What kind of cooperation method?"
"Two ways! You choose." Evan raised his index finger, "The first one, I entrust you to be fully responsible for applying for a patent and finding a suitable buyer. You charge entrusted service fees and agency fees."
Speaking of this, Evan raised another finger, "The second type, help me register a company. As a partner, you become a member of the company. I put the patent of instant noodles under the company's name. The company is fully responsible for the patent application and actions of instant noodles."
After saying that, Evan reached out to Albert and said, "Please choose."
The two cooperation methods of Evan are not very different for Albert to make profits. The key is that the relationship between the two and Evan is different. The former is just ordinary and commercial cooperation, while the latter means that the two parties become one and interests are closer.
In a sense, if the latter is chosen, then Albert and Evan’s relationship is no worse than that with Mr. Governor who has a decades-long foundation.
So, facing the choice given by Evan, Albert naturally fell into silence.
During Albert's contemplation, Evan did not disturb him, but sent his sister Virginia to his room upstairs to take down the patent application materials that had been prepared long ago.
Virginia went upstairs and downstairs for two minutes. When she gave the information to Evan, Albert also made a decision.
"Mr. Albert, what's your choice?"
Albert reached out to Evan and signaled to give him the information, "I will register the company as soon as possible."
"By the way, do you have any proposals for the company's name?"
Virginia interrupted and said, "I think VW is good."
Evan rolled his eyes at his brightly-smiling sister and said, "Mr. Albert, don't listen to her."
“I think Alphabet is good.”
“Alphabet(alphabet)?”
