Chapter 14 Harvest

In the past two days, the rice has been pulped and started to mature, and people have started harvesting one after another.

Today is helping Zhao Juan’s family harvest millet.

After lunch at Zhao Juan's house, the whole family went home to take a nap, nourishing their energy and preparing for the afternoon harvest.

"Xiaoxi, Binbin, we're about to get up, we're leaving."

When I heard my mother's voice, the two little ones knew that it was time to get up and go to harvest rice, so they got up quickly.

Wear straw hats for the two children and myself, take a sickle (the sickle harvested is all toothed), lock the door, and go to the yard. After everyone is almost here, they set off together.

Along the way, a few children were chattering. I wonder if they stayed together every day, so why did they have so much to say?

In the afternoon, the youngest family first collected a piece of land under the Changyan Pond on the mountain. This land is nearly one acre, long and surrounded by the Changyan Pond.

Women and children first go to the fields to cut rice, and a few strong men go to move the threshing machine and mixing bucket in the fields above (the mixing bucket is square, with a height of about 80 cm, a length of about 180 cm on the top and a length of about 160 cm on the bottom, with a bucket-shaped shape of a large top and a small bottom. There is a mortise of about 20 cm on each corner, such as four ears growing, and two thick parallel sleepers at the bottom, which facilitates the mixing bucket to move in the rice fields).

When they had cut a piece of the land, they came back and placed the mixing bucket in the empty space left in the field. They put the threshing rack on the mixing bucket, installed the engine, and left two people to hang the line, and the others joined the ranks of the millet.

Because the mountains have abundant water resources and are basically paddy fields, the wires are pulled to the mountains.

During the busy farming period, electricity can basically be used only by threshing mills. Such wires cannot use a few kilowatt-hours of electricity. Electric power companies generally don’t care about it. If you want to care, you have to run dozens of miles.

After the electricity was ready and the machine was turned on, the stream had already cut half of the land.

A few children lined up, and soon you walked to the front, and then I rushed to the front again, making it noisy and lively.

At the beginning, they were careless and joking. Although they were chasing each other, they were at least on the same level as the adults. Soon after, a few children became more serious and started a competition.

One person and two ways, because the child is young, you can reach it with a little bent over.

Here, rice is cut from the roots, leaving behind piles of about an inch.

The reason for this kind of cutting is that there is enough space to hold the handle. After all, the threshing machine is an iron thing, which is a great thing if it is cut. Secondly, the grass is dried and stored, and it is the main grain of cattle until winter. If it is cut short, it will be a waste; thirdly, the piles left are short, so it will be easier to cultivate.

A few children bent over, and soon the figure was buried in the rice. Only the sound of "swish" was heard, like the wind blowing through the rice, which was very pleasant.

Xiaoxi listened to the sound of "swish" in his ears, thinking that he had to do his best and could not let himself be compared by a few adults by a few young people. So he took off his straw hat and didn't care about the fine hair on the grass.

"I'm here, I'm the first, I'll be here first." Zhao Bo suddenly stood up from the ground and shouted excitedly.

What, so fast. Oh, it's okay, he is bigger than his current body.

About a minute later, Chen Yubin arrived. Xiaoxi was a little depressed. Even if the big ones couldn't catch up, he didn't want the small ones to compete with. He was moving too fast.

Finally, Zhao Bo is the first, Chen Yubin is the second, Xiaoxi and Zhao Juan are closely behind.

After some exercise, he wiped the sweat from his face, and his body realized that Xiaoxi kept scratching his face with his claws.

Looking at the red faces of the children, the adults couldn't help but stop and make a joke for a while.

After the children finished the competition, there was not much rice left in the field, so they put down their sickle and ran to the mixing bucket to watch them threshing and playing.

After watching for a while, several children were clamoring to thresh millet, but the adults felt that it was dangerous and they were afraid that they would hurt them. The strong woman was afraid of being pestered by men, and the adults were afraid of being pestered by children. In the end, they agreed to beat each person with a handful of rice. Although there was only one handful, it was also an attempt, and the children were very excited.

The stream held a handful of rice and sent the ears to the threshing machine. Only "rumble" sounds were heard. As the iron bucket rotated, the rice was beaten up and down by the machine, and his hand holding the grass was also driven forward and backward. The grains fell into the mixing bucket. In the blink of an eye, a handful of rice was clean.

Xiaoxi, who was having fun, turned his head and wanted to say he wanted it, but he saw his youngest uncle who was dark and refusing Zhao Bo's request. He looked at the grandfather standing next to him, and thought about what he swallowed and stood aside to enjoy his eyes.

As the rice handles on the ground decreased, the mixing bucket had been moved to the middle of the field, and most of the millet was loaded. The machine was stopped, and the millet was loaded into the backing, carried it home, poured it on the laid drying head in the yard, dried it, and sifted it with a wind bucket (also called a windmill) and sealed it into the grain cabinet.

The drying pad is made of bamboo, three meters wide and five or six meters long, used to dry grain. Because the drying dam in rural areas is mud land, the drying pad is laid on the ground to prevent stones, soil, and grass from mixing into the grain, and it is troublesome to make rice later.

Because the land is vast and sparsely populated, every household has a dry dam, and the yard is the dry dam.

The wind bucket (windmill) is a traditional wooden farm tool used to remove impurities, shrunken particles, straw chips, etc. from rice and other grains. It is made of wood. There is a trapezoidal granary on the top, a funnel underneath to produce full grains, a small funnel on the side that produces small or shrunken particles, and a tail that produces shells and grass clippings.

The wooden board at the bottom of the trapezoidal granary is movable and is used to control the amount of food falling. There is an impeller hidden in the wooden round "big belly" with a shaking handle made of iron. The wind leaves are turned by hand to sway the food with wind. The wind generated by the fast rotation speed is also strong, and vice versa.

After two days of busy life, early in the morning, after breakfast, I sent my grandfather away to attend the venue. Xiaoxi looked at his short legs and felt a little depressed. When will he grow up and follow him to attend the venue?

Since tomorrow I will thresh my own millet, my grandfather went to the market to buy meat and vegetables today.

The next day, everyone came to Xiaoxi's house early after breakfast.

The paddy fields of Xiaoxi family are basically gathered under the Changyan pond behind the house, so they thresh millet from top to bottom.

The top field has half of the field, so I dare not let a few children go to the ground. One is that the water is cold in the morning, and the other is that I am afraid of leakage or accidents. Therefore, the men clean up the land, and the women and children go down to cut rice.

As the saying goes: Three women are in a play, a group of women are chattering, and a few children are accidentally fucking each other, and everyone is having fun all morning.

At noon, everyone went back to have a meal. Xiaoxi stayed to see the mixing bucket and the machine because the woman living next to her had some dirty hands and feet.

The woman's voice comments in the village have always been bad. She can steal everything. Generally, any family will doubt her if they lose something.

One day, she went down to Xiaoxi's house and stole pig grass from Xiaoxi's house. She was caught by Chen's father. Chen's father picked up a yellow jing stick on the side of the road and slapped it hard. When she was young, Chen had a bad temper, a very strong temper, and had a heavy move. Since then, she has never dared to steal Xiaoxi's house again, and she has been very restrained for a while. But she just kept her people to see things just in case, and the engine is quite expensive.

I spread the grass by the field and sat on it. The stream took out a tender cucumber and wiped it out, then ate it with a thorn.

It is boring to stay alone in the mountain, especially without a smartphone or the Internet. After a while, my whole eyes became dull. The stream lying on the grass was almost asleep, and my grandfather had just finished lunch and came to change jobs.

After returning home and having dinner, he fell asleep on the bed.

In the afternoon, my mother-in-law was watching the food at home, but Xiaoxi thought about it and she would stay.

Zhao Juan heard that Xiaoxi was going to see food at home in the afternoon, so she planned to accompany Xiaoxi.

After finally having time alone, how could she get into the space after she stayed? No, Xiaoxi shook her head quickly.

"Xiaojuan, no, I'll just be alone in the house. You don't have to stay with me."

Zhao Juan is actually very confused, she wants to go out and play, and she wants to stay with her friends.

"Really, I don't need to accompany you?"

Seeing her hesitation, Xiaoxi nodded suddenly and said loudly, "No, no, no." That way, I just said, "Go away quickly, leave quickly."

After everyone left, Xiaoxi sat for a while and hid in the house and entered the space. Although there was no one else, I had to be careful.

I entered the space and started to complete today's task. An hour later, someone was about to come back with a millet, and the stream left the space.

Sure enough, a few minutes later, a figure bent over and walked over with a trowel on his back.

After the man poured the millet into the drying mat, the stream took a wooden rake and spread the millet.

Wooden rake, as the name suggests, is made of wood. With long handles, it can be slammed from the side of the drying mat to the other side of the drying mat. There is a wooden board in front, with evenly arranged wooden teeth on it, which is used to spread and collect grain.

Then use a bamboo rake to roughly clear out the broken grass in the millet.

Bamboo rake, made of bamboo, is 1.78 meters long and looks like claws on the front, used to remove large weeds.

After the construction was done, the stream entered the space again. The only hour (two hours in space) just went to the mountain to cut down trees and ate something. The things in the field were not yet collected.

Corn, potatoes, and sweet potatoes can be harvested. The stream plans to wait for the large pool in the space to be dug and then convert the land into a field, so there is no rice planting now.

It took about half an hour to collect it. I didn't remember what else to do, and I remembered that someone should be back carrying millet.

After laying out the millet and packing the grass chips, I had nothing to do for a moment, so I sat on the big bench, holding my chin with my hands, looking forward, and my eyes were stunned.
