Chapter 25 Desert Mummy

The surroundings of Haizi have calmed down, and there are endless sand dunes in sight. However, the sand here is rare white - white as snow. If it weren't for the heat waves coming, Li Cu would probably think he was on the snow-capped mountains.

Wang Meng paddled the raft, and they pulled the sand to the shore. Wu Xie reminded: "Pull the raft up, if Haizi moves again, we will be stupid."

"You said this Haizi is a train here? I got a few guests at the station and then continued to drive." Li Cu thought about it.

"It probably was a ring line, and I don't know how much time it took to walk around?" Wu Xie bent down and took out a hand of sand. The extremely hot white sand made him frown slightly, "There is quartz inside, which is the same as the sand outside. But why is it so white?"

"Is there anything special about the white sand?"

"Most of the sand are stones, and white means a lot of calcium." Wu Xie shook off the sand in his hand and said, "I don't remember any images of this area in the aerial photos."

"Maybe it's a problem of light, so it's not that obvious in the sky." Li Cu said.

"The aerial camera is not a point-and-shoot camera." Wu Xie put his hand in mid-air, "and there is no wind here."

Li Cu did as he did and found that it was true, without any airflow.

At this time, Wang Meng, who was pulling a raft on the side, suddenly shouted: "Boss! Come and see!"

Li Cu and Wu Xie rushed up a sand dune and looked to Haizi. They saw Wang Meng pointing at the sand dune beside him. The sand on the dune was slid away when he dragged the raft. The entire sand surface collapsed, revealing the things buried in the dune.

Li Cu and Wu Xie ran over, and the raft fell more and more. Soon, the wreckage of a truck showed a corner from the dune. The collapsed part revealed the truck's bucket, filled with the dangerous containers they had found at the bottom of the lake.

The three men digged the sand hard, and soon a decaying Jiefang truck was exposed from the sand. The rust spots formed in the desert were different from those produced in other places. They could clearly see that the truck was corroded by alkaline things. Many places on the iron sheet were covered with white rust ash, which broke and fell as soon as it touched.

"Look, this car has been broken down here for a long time." Wang Meng said gasping, "And the boss, when we got into the water, we pushed this raft together. You won't help when it was pulled up, I'll just pull it."

"Observing the environment is more important than pulling rafts." Wu Xie replied, "Things rust very slowly in the desert. According to this degree of rust, the truck has probably been here for at least twenty years."

"Not necessarily." Li Cu retorted, "I have learned in class. The temperature difference between day and night in the desert is too large, and there will be water vapor at dusk, which will accelerate the corrosion rate of objects, not to mention that there is a water source nearby. The container we saw in Haizi probably fell into the water here and was taken to the oasis where we rested before by Haizi."

"I didn't expect you to be a good student." Wu Xie was surprised.

Li Cu thought silently in his heart that the reason why he remembered it so clearly was because the teacher who taught this knowledge was very big and was very pleasing to the eye. He listened to the class with great care. Later, when he changed to an old man, he was no longer interested in listening.

"No, this kind of car cannot drive here." Wang Meng digs a lot of white sand, revealing the tires that have rotted into cotton wool. "Boss, this is a rubber tire, and it has been sunburned."

Wu Xie pointed to the rubber tire and explained to Li Cu: "This kind of tire can only be driven on a flat road. If it is full of sand, it will not be able to drive at all, and it will sink into it when it falls."

"In other words, there was once a road here? Under the sand?" Li Cu looked at the white sand all over his eyes and shook his head. It was impossible to dig out the road that didn't know whether it really existed. After all, the whole road was under the sand. Even if a small section was dug out here, there were continuous sand dunes in front, and it would be difficult to dig out all even if it was exhausted. What's more, this is a desert, and sand cannot dig out the pit.

"How can there be a road here?" Wu Xie murmured to himself, and then said to the two of them, "We are in trouble now, so we can just dig to see if we can dig out a little more of the car. When the carriage is exposed, we may find something that can be used."

So the three of them continued to dig, but after digging a few times, a shriveled face suddenly appeared in the sand. Then the sand suddenly fell, all the sand around the face collapsed, and a completely dry bone was exposed.

Li Cu, who had never seen such a scene, was scared and sweated. Fortunately, he didn't scream during the day, but he didn't dare to get too close. He looked at the other two people. Even Wang Meng was not much better than Li Cu.

Only Wu Xie showed no sign of fear. He only said: "Damn it, it's not a good sign. Look, this is a military uniform, this is a soldier. All the soldiers are trapped here and we are even more troublesome."

"It may not be that he died of sleepiness, maybe he died in a car accident." Li Cu remembered Wu Xie's optimism.

"Impossible, what kind of car accident can kill people in the desert?" Wu Xie pulled the collar of the mummy and lifted the corpse out of the sand. Although the corpse had been completely dehydrated and air-dried, it still had some weight. This weight made Wu Xie stagger and threw the sand down a large piece, covering his feet. He threw the mummy aside and said to the two: "Touch what's in his pocket."

"This is inhumane." Wang Meng was still a little upset.

"Everyone is dead, it's just a stinky skin." Wu Xie saw that the other two were afraid of this corpse, "Don't be afraid, this thing is dangerous if it's old, and this is not qualified."

Wang Meng looked at Li Cu, and Li Cu immediately shook his head: "I am a hostage. According to the Treaty of Geneva, hostages cannot do rough work."

"Don't you say you were invited? It's natural to spend money to ask you to do some work. Besides, hostages are different from prisoners of war." Wang Meng shouted impatiently, "I'm not a soldier, go quickly!"

"Then can I share your salary with me?"

"Okay, there's not much anyway."

Wu Xie continued to flip through the car, holding out balls of sand. Li Cu had to squat in front of the mummy, pinched his nose and fiddle with his fingers.

This was his first time facing a corpse, and it was such a completely dry corpse. His first reaction was that if he told Su Wan, it would be so awesome. Thinking of this, his fear seemed to have decreased a little. Li Cu looked at the corpse more carefully.

The corpse was wearing a military uniform that had been alkalized into large white spots. It was as hard as a salted fish, but the horizontal bars on the shoulders could still be seen clearly.

"He has a great military rank, but he is still an official."

"Guan'er? Why can Guan'er stay in the car? Don't talk nonsense." Wang Meng shook his head disagreed.

Li Cu glanced at Wang Meng, thinking that he didn't believe you, but he didn't refute. He continued to rub his clothes with his fingers carefully, and finally found an officer's certificate, a pen and a small notebook from the mummy's top pocket.

The book was a work note, and the paper had been alkalized to a very crisp. He didn't use much force, but the notebook was immediately brittled into pieces where the fingers touched. He had to let it fall to its original place, thinking that there was no wind here, otherwise the piece of paper would have turned into powder when the wind blew.

Li Cu continued to move the other two things, but found that the two sides of the officer's certificate were glued together and turned into a whole, which could not be turned open at all, and the pen could not be pulled out of the cap.

Li Cu sighed secretly, thinking to himself that if he was trapped here, would it be this kind of virtue? Then, he saw a wrist of the body wearing a watch, and the style of the watch could not be seen in the old and new style. He carefully took off the watch, guessing that the watch should be very expensive and it must be not an ordinary watch, because the watch hand is still walking, and it is walking quite accurately.

"This must be a corrupt official." Li Cu said to the other two people.

"Can you care about other things? See if he has maps and compass or something."

"I think all the paper products on him are useless even if they are found, and they must be poorly preserved. Moreover, he has such virtues, and I think the map he brought must not be very useful."

After saying that, Li Cu decided not to look for him anymore. He was really scared and muttered in his heart: I will be passive and lazy, why don’t you?

Just as Li Cu thought of this, a bang, something was thrown by Wu Xie to his side. Another mummy was still the remains of a soldier.
