618 Basic performance
When I walked into the room, I looked at it in a hurry. This was a special audition room.
There is a white board against the wall on the left side, and two tables are placed in front. Lucinda is standing in front of the table, fiddling with a home-style handheld camera; on the right side is a relatively spacious space, with soft lights, reflective umbrellas, light blocking plates and other equipment. There are a large number of connecting wires on the ground, but they are not organized, and they are just randomly interlaced together.
"Stand in front of the camera." Lucinda did not look back and placed the camera on the tripod. After confirming that the placement was completed, she pressed the recording button and saw the red light on. Then she walked staggeringly towards the back of the table. "Well, start with self-introduction." While speaking, she still didn't look at Renli, just like the back of her head was talking.
Standing in front of the camera, briefly introduce yourself, and then contribute a performance that you have prepared, or the interviewer passes a page of script, reads lines temporarily, and prepares for performance temporarily. The whole process is about three to five minutes. The casting directors record all the performances with a camera and mark them on the resume. After the audition, they select actors who are impressive or worthy of training, watch the video for the second time, and select suitable actors.
This is the regular mainstream audition method in Hollywood, and more than 80% of film works are selected in this way.
In fact, the "Pacific War" was also the same way to choose, but there were hundreds of actors who needed to be selected in the series, and thousands of actors who participated in the audition, so they skipped the video session and chose a spacious space like the theater, and relied on the impression of live audition to complete the selection. This is even more cruel, but more efficient. There is still a difference between TV and movies.
Lan Li only felt a little novel. So far, he had never participated in such an audition, but only saw it in a movie. Today he had the opportunity to experience it, which made Lan Li a little eager to try it out. At the beginning, the "Pacific War" paid more attention to stage expression and explosiveness, while today he paid more attention to the sense of camera, and there must be differences in performance.
Restraining his excitement, Renli stood in front of the camera, straightened his posture, raised his head and raised his chest, and smiled. He did not rush to speak directly, but waited for Lucinda to sit down before introducing himself, "Lary Hall, twenty-one years old, came to audition for William Cage. Can I start the performance?"
Regarding auditions, Renly and Chris Hemsworth were roommates before, he once asked for advice. Generally speaking, for auditions like this, casting directors have to see hundreds or thousands of actors a day, and many of them are familiar faces, so they don’t have time to greet and be polite, and like to directly get to the topic. If they are interested, they will naturally make more requests.
That's what Lanley does now.
But Lucinda raised her right hand and stopped Renli, "Don't worry." Then she narrowed her eyes, looked Renli carefully, and asked, "British?"
It seems familiar, and this is the first question that happened during the audition of the "Pacific War". Lan Li's mouth couldn't help but slightly raised, "Yes." After pausing for a moment, seeing Lucinda's hesitant look in her eyes, he added, "The script describes the alien war, and the battlefield is also set in Europe. So I think the nationality and accent of the officer are not that important." This is also the reason why he did not change his accent, "or is the crew who hope to adopt an American hero?"
In his previous life, William Cage was a clear American, and he was sent to the UK to help fight against aliens; but after carefully reading the script, Renli discovered that nationality was not mentioned in the original script at all. Obviously, this was the change to the script after Tom Cruise took over.
In fact, the original novel was written by the Japanese, and the male protagonist was naturally Japanese. Just like the live-action version of the later "Ghost in the Shell" movie, it was naturally changed to American after the Hollywood adaptation.
But these two works are still different. The story content of the movie "Ghost in the Shell" still takes place in Japan, and the entire story structure, theme and core content are closely related to Eastern culture. Suddenly, the character has changed from an Asian face to a white man, and the overall style becomes different.
"Edge of Tomorrow" is different. The screenwriter's changes directly transplant the entire story into the background of the world. It is no longer the Japanese fighting against aliens, but the whole world fighting against aliens, and the main battlefield has also been transferred to Paris. The most important thing is that the core idea of the story has no direct connection with oriental culture, and it is closer to the game mode of fighting monsters and upgrading, so the overall style is very harmonious.
It is precisely because of this that the first version of the script emphasizes more on the science fiction worldview, and does not give a mandatory setting for William Cage's nationality and accent, or even mention it.
For Renley, the experience and growth of the character William Cage has no direct connection with nationality, and "Edge of Tomorrow" is originally a commercial movie, so he did not further refine his accent.
Faced with Renli's response, Lucinda chuckled and showed off her untidy teeth. However, instead of responding to Renli, she said directly, "You can start performing." She kept her initiative in her hands without any hesitation.
Lan Li didn't mind, but adjusted her standing posture, her whole body was straightened, her shoulders opened, her back was straight, and her legs were slightly resting. Her chic and tough posture was like a soldier who had been trained for many years.
Lucinda's eyes showed a playful smile. She could clearly see the adjustments made by Lanli for the performance. Even though he only wore a smoky gray shirt with jeans and skateboard shoes today, the soldier's temperament and posture were revealed, and it looked like a soldier on vacation in Paris during World War II. This was not unusual. Lanli had starred in the "Pacific War", which was his famous work; but what was interesting was Lanli's next performance.
Although he was tall, Lan Li's chin was closed, and his handsome eyebrows and eyes revealed panic and worry. He tried his best to hide it, but the results were very little. When he opened his mouth, his deep voice was trembling slightly, and his pretended calm but stern bluffing was visible, "General, I have encouraged millions of people to join your army. When the body bag is transported back to China, there must be someone who will take the blame. Do you think it is your fault? How difficult should it be for me to convince people that it is all your fault?"
The slow sentences were word by word, but the rhythm was a little chaotic, with uneven speed and pace. Despite this, the power was still strong. Then I saw those eyes becoming firm and bold, and in an instant, the decisive aura of killing and decisiveness spoke out the words behind, "I think, the general doesn't want this, right?"
Thirty seconds, in just thirty seconds, the performance was free to be retracted and instantly burst out, and the panic was in extreme magnanimity, and the ruthlessness of grasping the life-saving straw without any means was fully demonstrated. However, it was not cunning or insidious, and it was more like the resistance of survival/energy.
Lucinda felt that it was a bit fun. Is the effect presented in this way a credit for the performance? Or is it the credit for the skin of Lanli? But no matter what the reason is, this is a necessary quality for the superheroes on the big screen. But what really made Lucinda look at is not the audition itself.
Lucinda is a Frenchman and started casting directors in 1997. She has been active in Europe before. Directors such as Luc Besson and Guy Rithie are long-term partners. After landing in Hollywood, with their outstanding abilities and extensive connections in Europe, she became the casting director of countless blockbusters, "Troy", "Alexander the Great", "Batman Prequel" series, "X-Men" series, etc.
Lucinda is not affiliated with any company, but in the past two years, she has indeed cooperated with Warner Bros. Recently, she is also casting another Warner Bros. "Cloud Map", which is in charge of the director of this work. Warner Bros. is quite optimistic about these two directors who filmed the "Matrix". With a wave of her hand, she has a budget of 100 million.
In a busy situation, the production department called last night and handed over the casting task of "Edge of Tomorrow" to her. She took it for granted that the crew of "Yuntu" needed at least 230 actors with lines, which was impossible to complete in a short period of time. Where could she have time to deal with another work? But Tim Lewis came to her in person and convinced her to join with sincerity.
Lucinda had not even had time to get the script of "Edge of Tomorrow" and just heard Tim tell a story summary, and then he rushed to the shelves early this morning. Lucinda had no idea about Lanli's performance just now. She had no idea. It was a scene in the script, and she didn't know why Lanli performed like this.
But to Lucinda's surprise, Lanli's posture was shown.
First there was an Oscar nomination, and then there was a North American work of 300 million, not to mention the kindness shown by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. From any perspective, Lanley can now be regarded as a second-tier actor, and it can even be said to be an actor who has touched the edge of the first-tier. It is a hot and rising stage. Especially in recent times, the news of the "Fast and Furious" rumor and sequel has been very popular and has attracted much attention.
However, Lan Li never showed any pride in the audition just now. Not to mention pride, she didn't even have the airs of the actors. The positivity and excitement she showed was a posture of loving acting skills, the concentration and dedication she showed in her performance, and the posture of a professional actor.
In a trance, all the additional halos were stripped away, and Lucinda only saw one actor, the attitude of conscientiously. This attitude alone was enough to make Lucinda look sideways.
