Chapter 688 Four meditations and eight meditations

Since you have chosen to practice Buddhism, you must calm down and prepare to be an ascetic monk.
Zhenru Temple is large in area, but the palace is simple and old, looking gray and without magnificent decoration.
There are already three disciples under Mr. Xuyun, called Chuandeng, Haiyin and Benhuan.
When Qin Di worshipped into Zhenru Temple, the first step was to orphan it.
Qin Di looked at the long hair above the master's head and asked, "Master, can this step be avoided?"
Monk Xuyun shook his head: "No, hair represents the troubles of the world, past wrong habits and pride and negligent hearts. The purpose of ordaining is to eliminate all concerns and practice with all your heart."
Qin Di asked boldly: "Master, why do you still have hair?"
Monk Xuyun said lightly: "I am keeping my hair, which is a special time, and a product of a specific stage. Cough cough, I won't talk about the past..."
Since you want to shave, then shave it. Anyway, for Qin Di, this is just an appearance outside of his body. As long as he thinks, he can grow back at any time.
After the ordaining was completed, Xu Yun threw him three sutras, one of the Diamond Sutra, one of the Vimalakirti Sutra, and one of the Lankavatara Sutra, saying: "Being a teacher is a lineage of Zen. Zen Buddhism emphasizes directing the human heart and realizing the nature to become a Buddha. The main method is meditation and sudden enlightenment. Being a teacher will teach you slowly. Whether the merits can be fulfilled in the end depends on your own mind."
Qin Di clasped his hands and said, "Thank you for your teachings. Master, what is our Buddhist sect pursuing?"
Xuyun replied: "Understanding the mind and seeing the nature, entering the saint from ordinary people, transcend all time and space, cause and effect, past and future, and gain freedom from all worldly affairs and all comforts, and then become a Buddha."
"Master, what is enlightenment of the mind and nature? What does this 'nature' mean?"
"It refers to the pure and natural mind that people already have. The mind and nature are pure and Buddha nature are inherently present. Only by seeing the nature can one become a Buddha."
"Master, is the human heart capable of such great power? I heard that the Buddha can do everything and practice it in this way?"
Xu Yun was silent for a moment and said, "The beginning is the Buddha's heart, the kind heart, the pure heart, and the free heart. This heart is surrounded by secular cause and effect, and is contaminated by all kinds of bad habits. You must go through meditation, break through the three levels and see your heart clearly before you can become an Arhat; then release the Buddha's heart, after this heart turns into fire, a Buddha's fire is generated, and with Buddha's fire, you can become a Bodhisattva, and you can have the ability to subdue dragons and tigers; and then cultivate Buddha's fire, from the first level to the ninth level, and with the ninth level Buddha's fire, that is, the nine-level Bodhisattva. In the end, the Buddha's fire is sublimated and becomes a true Buddha, so that you can reach the sky and the earth, catch the clouds and the moon, and have great ability to transcend the world."
Qin Di seemed to understand after hearing this, but there were still many questions. He wanted to ask again, but was stopped by Xuyun.
Xuyun waved his hand and said, "You can recite these three volumes of scriptures first. Then go to the Jiuju Sea to sit quietly for a hundred years before talking about it."
Qin Di swept the scriptures with his spiritual sense in his hand, and quickly recited the scriptures. However, the subsequent speculation and understanding could not be completed in one or two days.
He followed the instructions, walked slowly to the edge of Jiu Kuhai, and sat down cross-legged.
At the beginning, his thoughts were confused, as if they were a mess. Gradually, his mind began to calm down and soon entered the state of first meditation, purifying his mind, and all leakages remained unmoved.
The first meditation belongs to worldly meditation. The so-called worldly meditation is that ordinary people who cultivate their minds and cultivate their natures in order to refine alchemy and qi, so that their bodies can be healthy and peaceful. Sitting in meditation, counting breaths to regulate their qi, meditating, meditating, or absorbing the spiritual energy of the tree under the big tree, or even meditation under the sun and moon, regardless of day or night, can prolong life, achieve health and comfort of the body and mind, and even have deeds of healing and responsiveness. Such practices are called worldly meditation in Buddhism. These are still a long distance from enlightenment and enlightenment!
The state of the first meditation is divided into three realms, which are called "three heavens" in Buddhism, namely the Brahma Heaven, the Brahma Heaven, and the Great Brahma Heaven. These three days do not require segmental food, so there is no two consciousnesses of nose and tongue. Only the pleasure feeling corresponds to the three feelings of eyes, ears and body, and the joy feeling corresponds to the consciousness.
It took Qin Di only three months to complete the first meditation, because he was originally a spiritual immortal, and it was not difficult to eat, drink, and move like a mountain.
Then, he entered the second level of meditation.
The pure mind, the coarse leakage has been hidden, which is called the second meditation.
There are also three days in the second meditation, namely the Three Heaven of Shaoguang, the Infinite Light Heaven, and the Light and Sound Heaven. These three Heavens do not have the first five consciousnesses, and only consciousness is consciousness, so there are only two feelings of joy and giving, which correspond to consciousness.
Half a year later, Qin Di entered the third meditation.
A stable heart and joy are all present, which is called the third meditation.
There are also three days in the third meditation, namely the three days of the little pure heaven, the infinite pure heaven, and the universal pure heaven. The consciousness and feelings of these three days are slightly the same as the second meditation, but the joy of consciousness is relatively pure and wonderful.
Qin Dihua spent a long time in this step, and it took three years to achieve true inner purity.
Then, he began to enter the state of the fourth level of meditation.
The five consciousnesses have nothing, and there is no joy. They only have feelings that are abandoned and correspond to consciousness. They are called the Four Meditations.
There are nine heavens in the four meditations, namely the heaven without clouds, the heaven of blessings, the heaven of broad fruits, the heaven of no thoughts, the heaven of no troubles, the heaven of no heat, the heaven of good seeing, the heaven of good appearance, and the heaven of ultimate color.
Qin Di spent twenty years on this level.
When I was finished, before I opened my eyes, I heard Master Xuyun say, "I have let you sit in meditation for a hundred years, but I didn't expect that the first step will be completed in just twenty years. In the first heaven, because of the unstable thoughts in my mind, there will be fires outside; in the second heaven, there will be joyfulness in meditation, so there will be floods outside; in the third heaven, there will be heavy breathing, so there will be wind disasters outside; in the fourth heaven, there will be no internal and external disadvantages, so all disasters cannot come to you."
Qin Di sat quietly, still not opening his eyes, and the master's voice kept coming from his ears:
"Next, don't get up, you can continue to sit down. If you have completed the four meditations and eight meditations, you have finished the four meditations, which is considered to have ended the practice of the formless realm. Later, you will begin to enter the formless realm and begin to step into the ‘Four Empty Mind’, also known as the ‘Four Non-Formless Mind’.”
"What are the four empty concentrations? The distinction is the concentration of the infinite and boundless state: it is the cage of the practitioner's mind to escape from the many tribulations of the form (form aggregate and matter) and thus abandons the thought of the form and the boundless void, so that the mind and the boundless void are in line with the boundless void. The concentration of the mind and the boundless void are in line with the boundless consciousness: it is the practitioner who dislikes the external void, so it abandons the void and the inner consciousness, so that the mind and the consciousness are in line with the boundless. The concentration of the mind and the consciousness are inseparable and pure and inaction..."
After saying that, Monk Xuyun left again.
Qin Di continued to sit quietly, without eating or drinking, without thinking or moving. It took another thirty years before completing the first step of the four empty concentrations.
Another forty years, the second step was completed.

It took Qin Di a total of three hundred years to complete the fourth meditation and eight concentrations from the sea of Nine Tribulations. At this time, his body became thinner, but the sixth-level Buddha fire had already been lifted from the dantian to his heart, lit up his entire heart palace!
He still didn't eat or drink, nor did he open his eyes.
After another eight hundred years, he had become thin and thin before he completely refined the Buddha fire and transformed it into his own life fire.
This Buddha Fire is a complex origin. It was originally an unknown low-level spiritual fire. Perhaps it came from a little Buddha light left by a monk who practiced meditation and worshiped Buddha. After he arrived in Qin Di's hands, he gradually grew up after repeated fire sacrifices. During the fire sacrifice, Qin Di's spiritual consciousness had been added. Despite this, it took him thousands of years to truly align with his Buddha heart and completely become his own Buddha fire.
