Chapter 69 Taoism and Nature
Ximen Tu's words attracted a lot of applause, but also a lot of curses.
"Get down!"
"You don't know anything!"
"It's not like this at all. Is there any law good or not? It's just that the law is not good because it's not all righteous. How can you do without law? You bandits are the ones who hold swords and equate unfair things?"
Many people were drinking and making noises.
In the noise, a sound of gold and iron intersecting came. A man stood at a high place with two swords, knocking on his copper sword and iron sword. After attracting everyone's attention, the man said, "Don't scold people, I want to speak justice for Ximen."
"Lao Dan said that things are mixed into heaven and earth. They are silent and lonely, independent and unchanged, and can be the mother of the world. I don't know its name, and Qiang is called Tao. Qiang is called Da. Da is called Da. Da is called Da, Da is called far, and far is called reverse. Therefore, Tao is great, the sky is great, the earth is great, and people are also great. There is great in the domain, and people live in one of them. People follow the earth, the earth follows the sky, the sky follows the Tao, and the Tao follows nature."
"The ambition of heaven mentioned by the Mohist school is actually natural. If the world wants to be governed greatly, Ximen Tu is right, so he should return to the natural state."
"Only by doing nothing can one act. Only by not governing can one achieve great governance. It is said that benefit the world. The Mohist school said that benefiting the world must be based on the will of heaven. The will of heaven is the way, and the way follows nature. Then the ultimate benefiting the world is to let the world return to nature?"
"Everyone says benevolence, and everyone says righteousness. This kind of benevolence and righteousness is determined by people. There is no benevolence and righteousness determined by people in the world, so there is no unkindness and unjustness. Justice does not last long, but the Tao is eternal."
"There are also laws, and they are all determined by people. Therefore, Lao Dan said: Govern the country with righteousness, use strange troops, and win the world with nothing to do. How can I know that? In this way, there are many taboos in the world and the people become poorer. The people have many powerful weapons and the country is in a state of chaos. Laws and decrees have many thieves."
"The more laws there are in the world, the more people will violate the law. The fewer laws there are in the world, and there are even no laws. Are there any people who violate the law?"
"Think about the current laws. If you don't go to build a city, it is illegal; if you can't survive by paying taxes, it is illegal to escape from the mountains and forests; if you are hungry and unable to eat to steal food from noble people, it is stealing... Can these laws benefit people?"
"The Mohist school said that to benefit the world, follow nature, follow the will of heaven, and then synonyms and centralize power. This is wrong. Since we must follow nature and follow the will of heaven, there is no need for synonyms at all, and there is no need for explicit meaning."
"So, we must be unable to do so, without a king, without government, without an home, and with great governance in the world."
Most of the people were fans of the Mohist school. They actually did not have a deep understanding of the mysterious "Tao" and "Tianzhi" and so on. They just instinctively felt that the Mohist school's policies were beneficial to them and supported them.
This kind of support and supporters sometimes lack independent thinking.
So Kui spitted at the person who was preaching with a sword at the high place and cursed: "You know what you know? Why do you say the Mo family's statement is wrong?"
The man holding the sword sneered and said, "I don't understand? Do you understand? How many books have you read? Based on the Mohist sayings about the method of knowledge and inference, their statements are originally wrong. Can't they be said?"
Aoi didn't quite understand what it means to say, so she scolded: "You are just farting, you are so smelly!"
Many people followed suit and shouted, "Go down!"
The man threw down a sword, splashed the sword with his fingers, and sang with a smile, "The superior man heard the Tao and did it diligently. The sergeant heard the Tao and was alive or died. The inferior man laughed at it. If he didn't laugh, it would be enough to be a Tao."
"You laugh, you are not enough to say!"
At this time, a sword-holder stood up and asked, "Since you say that you are inferring and telling, how can you put the synonym of the Mohist school? "
The man who laughed with a sword whispered loudly: "Listen to me!"
"Man is born in heaven and earth, and the law of heaven and earth is in nature, so man is born in nature. So, if there is no one in nature, what is the meaning of the world to man?"
"If there are no people in today's mountains, rivers, and land, what does this world have to do with us?"
"Since it doesn't matter, then to govern the world, it means to govern the world with humans, not empty world. That's right?"
There is nothing wrong with this, and everyone felt it was difficult to refute, so they nodded.
The man continued, "From this perspective, it can be said that some people have the world. To govern the world is to let people return to nature and obey the way of heaven. Is that right? What does it mean to govern the world? You can't say that a king who rules the world is called governing the world, but to make the world obey the way of heaven, it is considered to govern the world."
"Natural birth is born in heaven and earth, and heaven and earth are born in man. Human beings exist between heaven and earth, and the meaning of man is the meaning of the existence of heaven and earth. Heaven and earth are born naturally, but the existence of man itself is in line with the way of heaven. Then all human natures are in line with the way of heaven. Is that true? If human nature is not in line with the way of heaven, why would human beings be born again?"
Even some people who have read Mohist articles cannot refute these words.
Because after Mozi's death, he mastered the application of public opinion propaganda and ideology, and used the method of demonstrating that "human nature has no good or evil, liberating human nature" to fight against aristocrats and patriarchal systems. This is a method of inciting things that will turn too far into overcorrection.
The reason why human nature is liberated is that according to the Mohist morality, "Heaven and earth are born, and when human beings exist, it is reasonable, and human nature is part of the will of heaven." Therefore, liberating human nature is in line with the laws of heaven.
The Literature says: People transform into things, destroy the laws of heaven and lose the desires of others. Therefore, they have a mind that is contrary to deceitful and false, and have lustful and chaotic things.
The Legalists who have already shown signs also said that human nature is evil, so they need to control laws to transform nature and create falsehood.
If the Mohist school wants to fight against the rationality of the old rules and avoid being occupied by the Legal principles, which leads to the digestion and absorption of the Mohist school, it must oppose the theory of good nature and evil nature at its root.
The people's pursuit of profit is the basis for overthrowing the patriarchal system of aristocratic families.
The pursuit of profit is not guilty, and it is the source of legitimacy for the people to resist the nobles.
Seeking profit is the law of nature, which allows the people to make profits for themselves without any sense of guilt.
Otherwise, if people do not seek profit, they cannot overthrow the rule of the nobles; if people seek profit, they will be guilty of causing dark and repressive eras; if people seek profit, they may maintain the laws of nature and destroy human desires.
This is linked together. Only when human nature's desire for profit reaches its extreme and does not hide the urgency of seeking profit can one achieve great chaos and great governance.
The man holding the sword caught this point in the Mohist saying.
After seeing that everyone was not opposed, he said, "So, what's wrong with Ximen Tu's words? Human nature is nature, that is, the will of heaven. Only human freedom can show human nature, and there is no need for the Mohist family to take off their clothes and fart before 'synonyms'. As long as there is absolutely freedom, without a government, monarch, and country, human nature will naturally show and will conform to the way of heaven. Is there anything wrong with my words?"
"Man follows the earth, the earth follows the sky, the sky follows the Tao, and the Tao follows nature. The great rule of the world is to return to the state of nature."
"What is the natural state?"
"A small country has few people, no sages or monarchs, and no common respect for the world who has no power to judge people. People rely on human nature and law to be equal and free, and they are happy and happy."
"It was only later that the so-called saints appeared, which led to the righteousness stipulated by people in the world, and then power began to be concentrated in the hands of some people. When righteousness appeared, there was injustice; when law appeared, there was illegality..."
As soon as he finished speaking, someone stood up and shouted, "According to what you say, is the emergence of this country, law and power by chance?"
The man holding the sword nodded and said, "That's right."
He retorted the man loudly: "This is a big mistake."
"Do you know what Solukan went west? He went west tens of thousands of miles, and saw and heard different people's words and skin colors, but there are many countries, laws and kings. It's like a horse with four legs, two horses with four legs, and even horses in the world have four legs. Can you still say this is accidental?"
"From the Mohist sense, it is inevitable that the king will produce a country and a law. It is not something that the saints dolls appear."
"Mo Zi said: In ancient times, people said that people had different meanings. Therefore, one person had one meaning, two people had two meanings, and ten people had ten meanings. People had many people, and so the so-called righteousness was also many. Therefore, people were the same as others. Therefore, they were not human, so they were incompatible. In this case, father, son and brother were resentful and separated, and could not be harmonious. The people in the world all suffered from water, fire, poison and medicine. Even if they had enough strength, they could not work together; if they were corrupt and damaged, they would not be divided by each other; if they were hiding good ways, they would not be taught by each other. The chaos in the world was like animals."
"This is the nature of human beings, and it conforms to nature. Then seeking profit and avoiding harm is the nature of nature, it is Tao, and nature."
"If this is the case, seeking profit and avoiding harm, it will definitely not be so beautiful in ancient times. Since I seek profit, I hope everything in the world is mine; if you seek profit, you hope everything in the world is yours."
"In chaos, father, son and brother are separated, and the people are harming each other... This is what people look like after profit is born."
"What you said about nature, the Mohist paradise was spoken by words. It was the original paradise. In the end, it was because of self-interest and seeking profit was what you said was a state of small country but few people and happiness."
The man holding the sword smiled and said, "It is said that the Mohist school talks about logic, but I can't see it like this. If people seek profit and benefit themselves, how could there be a scene of a small country with few people in ancient times and enjoying themselves? The Mohist school admitted that it was the beginning of the paradise and also said that it was selfish. Isn't this a contradiction?"
The person who refuted immediately said: "From the meaning of the Mohist school, righteousness is profit. Benefiting oneself is benevolence, and seeking profit is the nature."
"In the saying of "Nine Levels of the Path of the Path" written by Sushi, in the ancient times, people used stones as tools, wood as shovels, and ate raw meat and drank blood, and lived in caves. Only then did Shennong teach the farmland and the Youchao teach the nests..."
"Before, when people used stones as tools to eat raw meat and drink blood, human nature was no different from that of now. Why did they seem selfless and altruistic at that time? In fact, it was because of selfishness."
"Because the primary priority of selfishness is to ensure life. When you are about to starve to death, give you a bucket of millet and a piece of gold. Which one would you choose?"
The man holding the sword said: "Choose corn naturally."
The rebutter immediately said: "This is the same truth. In the ancient times, people must first survive, and this is the greatest selfishness. Under the selfishness, the righteousness that people choose is to gather people to serve as the public. Because the world is vast, you cannot survive on just a stone, so you must rely on others. Relying on others, others also rely on you. Therefore, in the ancient times, the righteousness is both love, and the root of it is still profit. In the extremely ancient times, selflessness is actually the ultimate selfishness."
"It is not that human nature was selfless in the extremes of ancient times, but because human nature was selfish, we had to rely on selfless behavior to survive. Otherwise, could human nature change from the extremely ancient selflessness to the current selfishness? In ancient times, cows ate grass, but now cows do not eat meat. Eating grass is the nature of cows, and seeking profit and avoiding harm is human nature!"
"Tao follows nature, not because selflessness is nature, but because seeking profit and avoiding harm is nature. Taoism seeks profit and avoiding harm, which led to the selfless public settlements in the extremely ancient times. You regard this as a cause."
