Chapter 1856 JJC-Talk

"Although the chat software nateno now accounts for half of South Korea's market share and will develop in the future, in my opinion, chat software like nateno will fall behind in a few years. Why? Because the world will attract the era of smartphones!"

"President Che, think about it carefully. If there is such an instant messaging software that is very suitable for smartphones, and can be used in fragmented time, can manage friends with actual phone numbers, and can use push notification services to quickly send and receive messages, pictures, videos, and voice intercoms with relatives and friends, even if the other party is not online, it will be like sending text messages. Wouldn't it be very popular? I can tell you with certainty that such instant messaging software will be very popular and will quickly replace outdated instant messaging software like Nateno!"

"So I want to create a new subsidiary under jjc Network Company, named jjc Network Communication Company. After this subsidiary was founded, I immediately started to develop what I called instant messaging software. I have thought of the name of this software, called jjc-talk. If nateno is the im tool in the PC era, jjc-talk is the im tool in the mobile Internet era. jjc-talk is designed for the mobile Internet. Without the concept of 'online', it is its most typical feature and will always be online."

"President Che, I will give you enough funds. I can give you a year to prepare, but in a year, the jjc network communication company will have to be created, and after it is created, it will have to be invested in the development project of jjc-talk. According to my estimates, smartphones will probably start to land in South Korea in the second half of 2008, and my requirement is to develop jjc-talk in the first half of 2009."

"Remember, our goal is not only to make jjc-talk the most common instant messaging software in Korea in the future, but also to focus on the global market and make it grow into a global communication platform!"

“…”

In the conference room, Kim Jong-sung solemnly explained and ordered Che Jong-ki.

The so-called jjc-talk is actually the kakao-talk of South Korea in his previous life, and kakao-talk in South Korea is equivalent to China's WeChat, just like WeChat replaced QQ in China. In South Korea, kakao-talk also replaced other chat software's status.

In his previous life, the founder of kakao-talk was an amazing person, and he was Jin Fanxiu.

Kim Fanxiu grew up in a poor family of eight in Tanyang, South Korea. Her parents did not graduate from elementary school. The whole family was crowded in a bedroom. In such a difficult family environment, Kim Fanxiu was admitted to Seoul National University. He used the money he earned from tutoring to finish college, and sometimes he would eat less meals to save money.

After completing his undergraduate and master's degree in industrial engineering, Kim Fanxiu worked for six years at Samsung Group. In 1998, he resigned and founded the online game company Hangame. This company quickly developed into the largest gaming platform in South Korea. In 2000, Hangame merged with another Korean Internet company Naver to become NHN, and gradually dominated South Korea's search and network portal visits, becoming South Korea's largest Internet group.

Jin Fanxiu held CEO and other leadership positions in NHN Company for many years. Later, due to disagreement with Naver founder Li Haizhen on the company's development direction, Jin Fanxiu resigned in 2007 and then dabbled in a series of web-2.0 experiments.

The smartphone landed in South Korea around 2009. Kim Fanxiu sensitively saw business opportunities and led his entrepreneurial team to devote himself to the development of kakao-talk. Kakao-talk was launched in March 2010.

In April 2012, China Tencent invested 72 billion won (approximately RMB 438 million) in kakao-talk for its game business development. Tencent acquired 3.6 million shares of kakao-talk, with a shareholding of 13.3%, becoming the second largest shareholder after kakao-talk chairman Kim Fanxiu (53.6%).

By 2014, the total number of registered users of kakao-talk worldwide was 158 million, many of which were distributed in Japan, Southeast Asia and the United States, with monthly active users reaching 50 million. Three-quarters of them were Koreans who abandoned text messages and defected to the simple and easy-to-use kakao-talk. The daily number of messages sent is three times that of the three major Korean operators.

Moreover, at this time, kakao-talk has developed into a comprehensive platform for users to play games, shop, and socialize. At this time, South Korea has become a country with Android app store revenue second only to the United States and Japan, and kakao-talk has become a fertile technology company.

In April 2014, Forbes Asian version estimated that Kim Fanxiu's assets were US$960 million. In May of the same year, kakao-talk signed a merger agreement with Daum, the second largest Internet portal in South Korea, and spent 4 months discussing and creating the joint legal person "daum-kakao". On October 1, daum-kakao was listed on the South Korean Stock Exchange and announced that it had officially entered the Korean IT market.

Before the merger, daum began to improve its own website's search engine services. Kakao-talk also entered the fields of chat software to finance, settlement and news services, striving to build a "mobile life platform". As the two companies joined forces to enter the Korean IT industry, South Korea's largest portal website "Naver" no longer dominated, thus evolving into a bipolar dispute.

After daum-kakao went public, its market value reached more than US$9 billion. The 48-year-old Kim Fanxiu owned 40% of the company's shares. Based on this figure, Kim Fanxiu's assets exceeded US$3.6 billion, thus becoming one of the top ten richest people in South Korea. Kim Fanxiu is also the largest shareholder of daum-kakao, the chairman, and the dominant position of daum-kakao's important policy decisions.

China Tencent, the second largest shareholder of kakao-talk, which holds 13.3% of the shares, has merged to 408.3 billion won in kakao-talk, thus gaining benefits of more than 5 times the investment amount.

...

After listening carefully to Jin Jingcheng's explanation and instructions, Che Zhongji pondered for a while and said: "With the current jjc network company and the president's capital investment, it is not difficult to create jjc-talk in a year. It is just that it is difficult to develop an instant messaging software for smartphones such as jjc-talk. The main difficulty lies in the talent."

Jin Jingcheng said: "President Che, if you have a year and enough funds, can't you form a team that can develop jjc-talk?"

Cha Zhongji said: "This kind of development team can be formed, but the key is that a senior talent familiar with the Korean IT communications industry is needed to serve as the leader of the team. Such people are not easy to find."

Jin Jingcheng said: "If you are not easy to find, you have to go find it. Even if you spend a lot of money, I am willing. In addition, this person can serve as the president of JJC Network Communications Company."

Che Zhongji nodded: "I understand, President."

In this era, in business, many things can be solved by money.

Although money can't speak, it is much more useful than anyone who says eight hundred words.

Money is not necessarily an end, but it is an effective means to achieve an end.

Money can make the devil push the mill.

If you have enough money, are you afraid that you won’t be able to hire senior talents?
