Volume Four The Empire of Arms Chapter 40 The Problem

The ground attack that was too late showed the strength of the US military and also brought it out

The province of Khuzestan, located in the Mesopotamian Basin, is the most special province in Iran. In addition to the northeast in the Zagros Mountains, more than 90% of the province's areas are on the Mesopotamian alluvial plains with low altitudes, flat terrain, easy to attack and difficult to defend. It has always been a key defense area for Iran...

During the Iraq-Iraq War, Khuzestan Province was not only a key area for the two sides, but was also captured by Iraqi troops many times.

Before the war broke out, the Republic and Russia repeatedly "warned" Iran that the US military would not only attack Khuzestein Province, but also use Khuzestein Province as its main battlefield.

Based on this, Iran adjusted its defense deployment and invested nearly one-third of its ground forces in Khuzestan Province.

The problem lies here. Iran is determined to defend Khuzestein Province, but it failed. In fact, no matter how much ground troops Iran invests, it cannot defend Khuzestein Province.

According to a report submitted by the Military Intelligence Agency after the war, before the war broke out, Iranian top leaders hoped to severely damage the US military in the ground battle in Khuzestan Province, consumed a large amount of vitality of the US military, and eventually forced the US military to withdraw from Khuzestan Province. In order to achieve this goal, Iran formulated a very strict urban defense plan and prepared to block the US military in large and medium-sized cities such as Avas, Abadan, Horamshahr, and Port Khomeini, and defeat the US military in urban warfare.

The idea is good, but the result is very bad.

There are many reasons why Iran failed to achieve its goal, mainly two points.

First, the war preparations were very insufficient, and the preparation time left for Iran was quite limited. After the outbreak of the war, the large-scale bombing of the US military seriously restricted the mobilization and deployment of Iranian troops, resulting in the lack of various materials needed for combat in the Iranian army stationed in various cities. After the ground battle started, Iran had no time to provide assistance to the garrisons in various places.

Second, the US military's urban combat capabilities have been greatly improved. On the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, the US military has summarized many urban combat tactics through more than ten years of training and developed a large number of weapons and equipment specifically used for urban combat. In the battle against Abadan, the 1st Armored Division demonstrated a very strong combat capability. Then, in the battle against Avas, the 1st Armored Division once again became the main force. It is not unrelated to its strong urban combat capabilities.

Overall, Iran makes a mistake by underestimating its opponent.

If Iran accurately judges the strength of the US military, not only will it not place its main force in Khuzestein Province, it should also be mentally prepared for a long-term war.

At the end of the 7th heaven and earth battle, a very serious problem was placed before Iran.

After losing nearly one-third of the ground troops (almost all the main forces on the front line), what will Iran use to defend the second line of defense and vast depths?

The same problem is also placed in front of the US military.

If the iron is hot, you will be confident enough to invade the Zagros Mountains at a lower cost, enter the heart of Iran, and overthrow the Iranian regime. If you keep your feet on, you will face Iran's "guerrillas" in Khuzestan Province, causing the war to be delayed for a long time and eventually you will be in a dilemma.

Without a choice, Iran can only fight guerrilla warfare with the US military.

On May 12, the day after Avas fell, several guerrillas adapted from regular troops of the Revolutionary Guards entered the province of Khuzestan from mountainous roads. According to the instructions issued by the Iranian Supreme Spiritual Leader, the Revolutionary Guards will send 150,000 guerrillas into the province of Khuzestan, and the Iranian army will also

Five infantry divisions were adapted into guerrillas and sent to Khuzestein Province, where Iranians from all over Khuzestein Province will also organize 10,000 guerrillas.

The US military that cannot defeat the armed US military on the front battlefield may not be able to defeat the US military on the guerrilla battlefield.

At least, the US military has not been able to summarize effective tactics against guerrillas so far. Neither in Iraq nor on the battlefield in Afghanistan, the US military has been able to wipe out guerrillas.

Iran has launched "guerrilla warfare", and the US military has more problems.

Khuzestein Province is the second largest province in Iran after Tehran, with a total population of nearly 3 million residents. Although approximately the residents are Sunnis, the remaining 60% of the residents are Shiites. Under this circumstance, the cost of the US military occupying Khuzestein Province will not be much smaller.

According to a pre-war analysis report by Rand Company, the US military must invest at least 150,000 ground troops in Khuzestan Province.

The actual situation may be even worse. Even if the US military invested 150,000 ground troops to occupy Khuzestan Province, it would be difficult to complete the combat operation to capture Tehran with only one ground troops left.

Insufficient troops are still a secondary issue. With the US mobilization mechanism, the final ground troops are likely to exceed 10,000.

The key question is whether the US military can withstand the huge casualties that occurred after the occupation of Khuzestan Province.

In the three years before the Iraq War, the US military paid a total of several officers and soldiers to be killed. Compared with Iran, Iraq can be regarded as a "paradise" for the US military.

At the beginning, the US military overthrew the Iraqi central government in one fell swoop, dealing with extremist organizations and mobs. Iran's central government is still standing in Tehran, and both the president and the supreme leader have strong appeal. Iraq's ethnic components and beliefs are very complex, divided into Kurds, Shiites and Sunnis. The US military can support one of the forces to deal with the other two forces and reduce its own pressure. Iran does not have such a complex ethnic component.

The Sri Lankans, 25% are Azerbaijanis, only 7% are Kurds, only 7% are National Islamic and Sunnis, and their national cohesion and religious appeal are obviously above Iraq. Most areas of Iraq are plains and deserts, suitable for mechanized troops to fight. Most areas of Iran are plateaus and mountains, and are not suitable for mechanized troops to fight.

Many factors determine that it is difficult for the US military to have good "results" in Iran.

In the analysis report submitted by Rand Company, it is estimated that the US military will suffer 2,000 casualties within the first month after occupying Khuzestan Province, 5,000 casualties within half a year, 8,000 casualties within one year, and 150 casualties within three years.

Obviously, this assessment is very "conservative".

Before the US military occupied Avas, more than 5,000 casualties (including more than 2,000 officers and soldiers killed).

Later, Rand adjusted the assessment results and increased the number of casualties for the US military in one year to 25,000, more than twice the previous time!

If this is true, the US military will not be able to achieve the final victory of the war.

In the 19670s, under the background of the Cold War, the US military had to withdraw from Vietnam after more than 50,000 officers and soldiers were killed. At this time, if the number of US troops killed more than 5c in a year, the US government might have to consider withdrawing troops from Iran.

It can be seen from this that the only way Iran can "victory" the United States is to kill the US military in large quantities.

This is also the starting point for the Republic and Russia to suggest that Iran weaken the defense of Khuzestan Province and prepare for a long-term war.

Not to mention Iran, even the Republic or Russia will find it difficult to defeat the US military on the frontal battlefield.

The Supreme Spiritual Leader of Iran called for a "National Guerrilla War", indicating that Iran adopted the suggestions of the Republic and Russia and corrected the initial strategic mistakes.

It can be said that Iran gave birth to this late strategic change after paying a very heavy price.

By May 11, Iran not only lost nearly one-third of its ground forces, but also lost 55% of the army (including the Revolutionary Guard) tanks, 50% of armored combat vehicles, 6c% of self-propelled artillery and rocket launchers, 70% of mobile air defense systems, and military vehicles. All losses combined, the total value exceeds RMB 1,000, which is the total accumulation of the Iranian Army and Revolutionary Guard in the past 1c year!

The only thing that the Iranian leader is thankful is that Iran is not Iraq.

Before the war broke out, many people predicted that the United States would not be able to achieve the final victory of the war. Whether it was driven out of Iran by the Iranian army or voluntarily withdrawing from Iran, the US military would eventually have to leave Iran and admit defeat.

For both sides of the war, all that is needed is time.

As the ground war ended, anti-war sentiment in mainland America also reached a high level. The huge casualties and war losses made many Americans extremely disappointed with the US government and the president.

The only thing that comforted Frederick was that the arms group and the energy group had already gained great benefits from this war, and the financial group had also become beneficiaries.

On May 12, US Secretary of Defense Berkeley announced the "20177 additional military budget."

According to the Ministry of Defense's estimates, the United States will pay an additional military budget of 5,500 yuan for the war this year, of which about 3,000 yuan is used to purchase weapons, equipment and ammunition and medicine, RMB for additional personnel costs, RMB for military scientific research, and RMB for new equipment development projects.

A very rich "big meal", but not the last "big meal".

According to NN TV's estimates, the US government will eventually spend $800 billion for the war in 2017, of which the procurement cost alone is high! Al Jazeera believes that the additional war expenses in the United States in 201 will exceed $1 trillion, of which the procurement cost is between 6,000 and 6,500 yuan.

Whether it is a "conservative" estimate or an "optimistic" estimate, Frederick achieved the goal of burning money.

When Berkeley announced an additional military budget, Frederick met with Federal Reserve Chairman Bourne to determine the details of the Federal Reserve's purchase of a state government bond.

This is not the last time the Federal Reserve takes action to "save" the federal government.

According to the most optimistic estimate, the Federal Reserve will purchase at least 2700 billion federal government bonds in 20177.

If this is true, no one can stop the US dollar from depreciating rapidly!

As soon as the relevant news came out, oil futures rose immediately, and gold rose immediately. Even the stocks of the three major stock exchanges in New York began to rise sharply, because most investors would not hold on to the US dollar that was about to depreciate, but instead exchanged the cash in their hands for commodities and financial products as soon as possible.

It seems that the United States has overcome the financial crisis.

Whether this is the case in reality, I'm afraid few people are optimistic about the US economy.

To put it in a saying, "I will pay it back sooner or later when I come out."

The United States issued more currencies and burned money on the battlefield, forcing the US dollar to depreciate, and eventually "repay" the huge debts owed through other means.

When a problem breaks out, that is, when a disaster comes! (To be continued,)
