977 Golden Island
There is an island with an area of 15 square kilometers on the sea 150 kilometers south of Vladivostok. Russians call it "Ascold Island" and Chinese call it "Qingdao". From the three peaks on the island, you can see the sea from afar, and the passing ships also use this island as an important coordinate for sailing.
In 1855, the British Admiral Semmer, who visited this place, called the island the "End Island". The Russians initially named it "Lighthouse Island" and later changed it to "Ascord Island".
It is worth mentioning that "Askold" is the name of a new warship that was factory in St. Petersburg in 1857. This warship once carried Admiral Ptiyatin to China to sign the Treaty of Tianjin with the Qing government, and then carried Muravyov to invade the Far East.
At first, this was just a place where Chinese people collected kelp, but when someone discovered gold here in 1867, it became a treasure land for gold rushing. Chinese gold rushers flocked to it, and the maritime activities between the island and the mainland became unprecedentedly hot. But in the summer when the gold rush began, the Russians were unaware of it.
It was not until a Russian warship accidentally visited the island and the conflict broke out.
After a routine inspection of the Alex ship, Atolin, the commander of the ship, was driving back to the port. Passing by the Askold Island, which he had to pass every time he sailed, he suddenly wanted to check it out. When he and 15 sailors boarded the island with guns and live ammunition, they finally discovered the secret of the Chinese.
In front of him, there was an open-air gold mining camp hidden in the valley. At that time, there were more than 500 Chinese gold miners in the gold mine. They were carrying out intense sand washing work, but it would be fine to see the area of the camp even if there was a thousand people.
Etolin immediately confiscated 5 pounds (1 Russian pound equals 409.5 grams) of gold sand and ordered the Chinese to permanently stop this gold mining activity that he thought was illegal. However, as soon as he drove the ship, gold mining began again.
After returning to the port, Aitolin immediately reported to his superiors. Two days later, he brought 18 soldiers, 6 gunners and a mountain cannon to the island again and searched the entire island. When he saw that these Chinese people dared to fart their orders, he immediately furiously drove away all Chinese gold miners. Since then, regular Russian patrols have appeared on the island, and there are also more Russian troops patrolling along the mainland to cut off the connection between the mainland and the island.
After that, the Chinese were unable to get close to the treasure land for gold hunting, but the Russian army often revealed that their soldiers were secretly attacked and beaten by Chinese remnants. Obviously, the Chinese were revenge. It can be seen that the Chinese did not recognize the rule of the Russians at that time, and they still recognized the government of Beijing in their hearts. If it was the Jilin General's order to prohibit them from collecting gold, these people would probably only complain and dare not revenge at all.
After more than half a year, the patrol on Askold Island was cancelled due to no major incident. But when Etolin drove the Arleut ship to the island again in April 1868, what shocked him was that he saw a busy gold digging scene that was no different from the last time, and hundreds of Chinese gold digging people were busy.
Now Atolin was completely angry. The damn Chinese were still addicted to stealing the Tsar's gold. He took 20 soldiers to the island immediately. When the Chinese saw them, they turned around and ran towards the mountain. The Russian army chased them back.
After a while, they caught a gold digger, but at this moment a gunshot came from the mountain, and a Russian soldier fell to the ground and died. The gunshot was like the horn of an attack. Hundreds of Chinese people rushed down from the mountain and surrounded the Russian army that was caught off guard.
When Etolin saw hundreds of Chinese people rushing over the mountains, he was so scared that he immediately ordered to retreat. The Chinese only had a few shotguns, most of them held wooden sticks and stones, and did not receive strict military training, so the attack was very messy. However, the more than 20 soldiers under Etolin were elite veterans, and the muskets and pistols in their hands were also the latest models, and they did not suffer much loss when they fought and retreated.
After the anger and shameful Atolin boarded the ship, he ordered the warships to bombard the bombing. The Chinese gold miners caught off guard were killed, and there were countless casualties. After the war statistics, Atolin killed three soldiers in total, and the rest were slightly injured, but some of the rifles and pistols were stolen by the Chinese.
Back in Vladivostok, Aitolin tore off the mask of warmth. He finally realized that these Chinese people would probably find it difficult to accept the rule of the Tsar throughout their lives. The warm governance methods had no effect at all. He began to prepare for the concentration of a large number of Cossack veterans from the Far East and activated a batch of inventory of arms. He wanted to kill all the more than a thousand Chinese people on Qingdao in one go.
Unfortunately, just as he prepared the soldiers of the two battalions and the corresponding supplies, several consecutive heavy fogs delayed his offensive plan. It was not until the beginning of autumn that he had the opportunity to lead his team to attack Qingdao. There was a decisive state in the dark. Just as his fleet started, the fleet of ships led by Long Ye gradually approached the coast of the Far East.
The August of Hutian is snowing in August. The famous quotes of Cen Shen in the Tang Dynasty are not nonsense. In August of every year on the Mongolian grassland, people are eating grape mooncakes during the reunion festival in the Central Plains. People from some places have already ushered in the first snow.
The Far East is more remote than the so-called Hu land and is even more bitter and cold. In August, people can no longer live without cotton jackets. Qingdao just ushered in a first snow a few days ago. The mountains are covered with silver, and it looks very beautiful, but the people living here are suffering.
In a secluded bay on the south side of the island, the shadow of a large ship was disappearing in the mist in the distance, and more than a dozen tattered small sampans on the sea were rowing desperately towards the shore, and the boat was filled with all kinds of cargo.
Someone on the shore whispered, "Wang Gui... What good thing did you get with gold this time? Are there any foreign guns? This time his grandma's scored one shot, otherwise I'll use you three or six holes..."
"Bad, Ding Si, just blow it. Try touching your grandpa Wang's hair? I envy the Western fast gun in my hand? I tried it with all my life. It was not as rewarding as knocking down the Russians with one shot. I still want to touch something? You dream..."
The people on the boat and the people on the shore were all old acquaintances. A few curses were actually the oral words they usually spoke. After the wooden boat landed, Wang Gui threw the cable to the shore. Ding Si and his friends tried their best to pull the boat full of cargo to the shore.
Wang Gui jumped off the boat and said, "Be kind and righteous! It's really kind and righteous! Xiang's boss is worthy of being a big business at sea. The Prussian Mauser's quick gun originally wanted to exchange for four taels of gold sand, but I heard that our gold sand is not enough, and the Russians were going to sneak attack us again, so they bought one free, and exchanged two taels of gold sand for one, and they also bought and gave away gunpowder bullets..."
