105. Ernst's counterattack

November 6, 1916, 1:00 pm.

When Felix, the Marquis of Yorko, announced the trial again, a new frontal contest between the two sides began.

The disadvantage of the morning had already made Marclin feel a crisis, and he decided not to wait, but to take the initiative. After Felix announced the start, Marclin went straight to the topic:

"The miracle of the Somme may have given us some misunderstandings. I hope Baron Alexander will not take it to heart, and I am willing to apologize for this... But, what we are now proposing to Baron Alexander is his treason! He let go of an enemy commander and a senior general of the enemy!"

He screamed in a desperate voice, as if he wanted to vent all his anger in the morning, and it seemed that yelling like this would convict the other party.

Wang Weiyi listened quietly, and he began to believe that the saying that there were very few excellent lawyers in Germany in this era was true. With Marclin's performance, how could he nail himself to the pillar of shame?

For twenty minutes, we saw Marclin performing there. Wang Weiyi protested and did not refute.

Finally, Marklin finished what he should say, and then respectfully said to Felix: "The respected Marquis of Yorko, there is no doubt that Baron Alexander's treason is committed. I beg you to convict him. As for whether to exile or hang him, it will be entirely up to your ruling..."

Felix's eyes fell on Wang Weiyi: "Baron Alexander, do you admit these accusations?"

"No, I refuse to admit these false accusations!" Wang Weiyi stood up.

Everyone's attention was focused on him, and everyone knew:

Baron Ernst Alexand von Breme is ready to defend himself.

He has been silent for too long, and now it's time for him to take action!

Felix nodded: "Given your aristocratic status, I allow you to speak unlimitedly, defend yourself and fight for all your rights."

Wang Weiyi smiled. The status of a nobleman is indeed good, which means he can say whatever he wants and there is no need to worry about being interrupted.

"I let go of a British China named Rosen, and I have never denied this..." Wang Weiyi's opening remark was a bit surprising, but he immediately said to Felix: "Great Marquis of Yorko, can I ask you a question?"

"I think you should ask the other party's lawyer or witness."

Wang Weiyi smiled and said, "Yes, but they are not qualified. Only the 'Sword of Justice' can answer."

There was a laugh from the audience, and the faces of Marklin and Nicholas looked very ugly. Ernst actually humiliated them so nakedly in France?

Felix pondered for a while, then nodded slowly.

Wang Weiyi's tone was extremely calm: "If you duel with your enemy, when the other party is seriously injured, will you continue to take his life? Please note that this enemy is a person you hate very much, the noble Marquis of Yorko."

Felix was silent for a long time before saying, "This question is difficult to answer. If I really hate the other person so much, then from the bottom of my heart I want to kill him. But in fact, I will spare him and wait until he recovers his wounds before having a duel with him again. I think every righteous gentleman with justice and compassion will do that."

"Thank you, the noble Marquis of Yorko." Wang Weiyi said calmly: "I think everyone here will make the same choice as the Marquis. Because the Germans are more noble than any of our enemies in terms of will, quality, and morality..."

Most of the Germans who were listening showed satisfied smiles on their faces. Ernst's words made them feel that being a German is so proud.

"And what I do is nothing but what every German will do. Justice, mercy, and integrity." Wang Weiyi finally told everyone present word by word:

"That day, after we seized the enemy's position, we captured a large number of British people, including Lieutenant Colonel Rosen, and this was not wrong with my accusation. But Colonel Nicholas seemed to have deliberately ignored the fact that one of Lieutenant Colonel Rosen's arm at that time had been blown off under the bombardment of powerful German artillery..."

A scream sounded, and Nicholas's face became even more ugly.

"Quiet, please keep quiet!" Felix calmed everyone down: "Baron Alexander, you can continue talking."

"Yes." Wang Weiyi continued to say calmly and slowly: "The troops I commanded at that time were far away from our large army because of the speed of assault. There was no field hospital around, and we only had one doctor. The closest to us was the British field hospital! Lieutenant Colonel Rosen was seriously injured, so I had to face two choices at that time. One was to do the duties of the soldiers and continue to treat him as a prisoner, so there was no doubt that he would die because he could not get treatment. The other choice was to do what every upright German would do, let him go, and send him and some seriously injured back to the British..."

He paused: "I chose the latter. If it is a sin to present the best quality of the Germans before the enemy, then I have no complaints even if the court hangs me now..."

"Do you have a witness, Baron Alexander?" Felix reminded him.

“All those who fight with me can testify for me…”

Just as Wang Weiyi was about to continue speaking, two voices came from the auditorium: "We can also testify for him, the noble Marquis of Yorko."

Wang Weiyi looked back and saw Sergeant Sergeant Sprolo and Pastor Elkeson who went to the position that day with him!

Why did they come?

"Please come forward, witnesses." Felix let them walk to the witness stand: "Please report your identities."

"Sergeant Sergeant Sprolo, a military physician in the 16th Bavarian Infantry Regiment."

"I am Elkeson, the priest of the army."

"Okay, tell me what you saw at that time."

Sergeant Sproro said first: "I can prove that the death of the British lieutenant colonel named Rosen at that time was very heavy, and it was Captain Ernst I reminded that we lacked the necessary medical conditions. If the prisoners cannot receive timely treatment, it may be difficult for them to survive."
