Six hundred and thirty-three. The United States enters the war

!At 8:55, the second wave of attack began. Japanese fighters first attacked sporadic American aircraft in the air to ensure air supremacy.

When the Japanese plane saw that there was a US plane to fight, it fled in a hurry. The US plane rushed over and Sanders fired at the leader of the Japanese plane. The Japanese plane immediately burst into smoke and fell into the sea.

Shortly after the air strike began, the Hawaiian Medical Association received an emergency call from the rescue of the wounded. In twenty minutes, doctors and volunteers had already loaded stretchers and medical devices into the car and headed straight to the scene. The women in the car brigade drove each available car and drove to Pearl Harbor. The situation on the road was already in chaos. Military vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances and hundreds of taxis transporting officers and soldiers to the combat posts were stuffed into the ten-kilometer-long highway, and the sound of horns rang out in the sky. The female driving of the car brigade

The officers performed particularly well, and they were truly as good as men. The injured officers and soldiers were rushed to the Traipler Army Hospital. The hospital urgently summoned doctors from Honolulu to participate in the rescue. Fifty doctors were listening to Dr. John Moorehead in New York explaining wartime surgery and rushed to the hospital to start rescue work. Dr. Moorehead had just demonstrated a new medical instrument that could quickly measure the metal in the human body. That morning, this instrument showed great value and saved a lot of valuable time waiting to flush the X-ray negative.

In the Naval Hospital, patients who were originally treated and recuperated in the hospital were sent to the temporary ward outside to free up beds for the injured people carried by stretchers. Many young sailors had broken arms and legs, and hundreds of them were burned by flames. The courage of these young people was incredible that the ward was full of injured people, many of whom were seriously injured and even dying, but there was silence and no one moaned.

After the first attack wave, the US military was ready for combat, so the second wave was shot down by more fierce anti-aircraft artillery fire. 20 Japanese planes were shot down, including 6 fighter jets and 14 bombers.

At 9:45, the second wave of the plane began to return. Yuantian flew around Pearl Harbor and circled around for a short distance and took pictures of the scene after being bombed before returning the last time.

At 10 o'clock, the special mixed fleet led by Lieutenant General Halsey, with the USS Enterprise as the core, completed the mission of transporting reinforcement fighters to Wake Island, was on his way back to Pearl Harbor. He received an order from the command of the Pacific Fleet General Kimmel to pursue the Japanese fleet south. This order was issued based on a series of wrong reports and radio locations. Fortunately, it was in the wrong direction. Otherwise, if this small fleet of Halsey really fought with the Japanese fleet, it would definitely be destroyed by the Japanese army. Then it would be impossible for Halsey and the aircraft carrier "Enterprise" to make great achievements in the Pacific Ocean in the future. The futile Halsey led the fleet to return to Pearl Harbor on the afternoon of December 9.

At the 11th, the plasma stock in the hospital's blood bank dropped sharply. Forrest. Dr. Pinkton immediately broadcast a call for blood donation. Within half an hour, 500 people gathered outside the hospital to donate blood. Medical staff divided into twelve locations for blood tests and blood draws, but it was still touching that some people were short of hands and waited for seven hours to donate blood.

On December 12, the assault formation on the way back received an order from Yamamoto to send several troops to support the landing operations of Wake Island. According to this order, Nagamoto drew two aircraft carriers, cruisers and destroyers each to support the landing operations of Wake Island, and led the main force to continue returning.

Later, General Nimitz, who succeeded Kimmel as commander of the US Pacific Fleet, believed that Nagamoto limited the assault time to one day and the assault targets to a limited range, and did not make the best use of this hard-earned opportunity. Yamamoto Iroku commented that Nagamoto was a mediocre person, saying that he was like a thief burglar when commanding. At the beginning, he was determined to be bold, and he was guilty and timid and eager to slip away after a little success. Because the Japanese army did not conduct the third attack, the Chinese and Japanese army only attached importance to military affairs during the first two attacks.

The target's strike did not attack Pearl Harbor's various shipbuilding facilities and oil depots with 40,000 gallons of fuel. In the future, the US military used the shipyard's equipment to quickly salvage and repair the damaged warships. It was using the fuel of the oil depot to make the aircraft carriers attack frequently, and restored the combat effectiveness of the Pacific Fleet in a short time. Imagine that even if the Japanese army only blew up the oil depot, it would be enough to prevent the intact and undamaged Pacific Fleet from being able to be deployed for six months. This was the biggest mistake of the Japanese army in this sneak attack!

When the Japanese planes began to bomb, the Japanese I-16 pocket submarine that infiltrated Pearl Harbor was piloted by Lieutenant Masaji Yokoyama and Sergeant Takashi Ueda took advantage of the situation and fired two torpedoes, but failed to hit the target. At about 22 o'clock in the evening, it was then sunk by the US military. The I-24 pocket submarine was discovered by the US ship at the entrance of the port. After being attacked, it escaped with injuries. The control was severely damaged and the control was out of control, resulting in two runs of hits and the livestock battery power was exhausted, so the two crew members had to abandon the boat. The other two pocket submarines were sunk by the US military at the entrance of Pearl Harbor. Among the ten crew members of this special attack team, only the captain of the I-24 boat, the captain of the I-24 boat, survived by luck, becoming the first Japanese army captured by the US military in the Pacific War.

The Japanese army deployed a total of 20 submarines around Jane. One is used for reconnaissance and surveillance, and the other is to prepare to lie out of the port during the air strike to avoid or pursue the US ships of the Japanese fleet. Since there was no US ship out of the port during the air strike, there was no result. However, the "I-70" submarine was discovered by a US aircraft carrier fleet while tracking the return of the US "Enterprise" aircraft carrier formation on the afternoon of December 9 and sank. None of the 68 officers and soldiers on the boat survived. The remaining submarines evacuated Pearl Harbor one after another after the attack.

The entire air strike lasted about two hours, and the real attack time was about one hour and thirty. The Japanese army consumed a total of 40 torpedoes and 556 bombs of various types, totaling about 144 tons.

29 aircraft were lost during the battle. Since the Japanese pilots were determined to die and did not bring parachutes, all 55 pilots on the plane were killed. In addition, one aircraft crashed due to failure during takeoff, and two aircraft crashed due to trek during return, resulting in a total of 32 aircraft. One large submarine and five pocket submarines were also lost, 77 crew members were killed and one person was captured. A total of 133 people were lost.

The US military had four battleships, the USS Arizona, the USS California, the USS West Virginia and the USS Oklahoma, and a Blemish ship, the USS Ograla, and a target ship, the USS Utah. One battleship, three cruisers, three destroyers were severely damaged, three battleships, three cruisers, and five auxiliary ships were slightly injured. 260 aircraft were destroyed and 63 were injured. 2,334 people died, 916 were missing, and 1,341 were injured.

The USS California and West Virginia were later salvaged and joined the war again. The US military also investigated the sunken Arizona to see if there was any possibility of salvage. Finally, seeing that there was no hope, the hull exposed to the water surface was removed, and the hull at the bottom of the water was still left in the sinking place.

Although the main target of the sneak attack, the three aircraft carriers and twenty-two other warships of the US Pacific Fleet, were not in Pearl Harbor, and the oil depot and shipyard were not damaged, the Japanese army's sneak attack was organized carefully and boldly, with a small price and great results. It can be regarded as a classic battle of a surprise attack.

Roosevelt finally waited for news that Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor.

And now, it’s time to declare war on Japan!

As the president went to Capitol Hill to demand a declaration of war on Japan, the chimneys exposed by the sunken warships in Pearl Harbor were emitting thick smoke. The crooked triangular masts of the battleship Arizona and the capsized hull of the Oklahoma were erected on the anchorage. The Arizona has become the tomb of nearly 1,100 hundred officers and soldiers. The Oklahoma looks like a giant whale trying to rush to the beach. Some small boats slowly sail, floating on a floor

The bodies of sailors and Marines were salvaged in the oil water. A total of 19 warships were sunk and damaged, including all the ships used in the Pacific Fleet for combat. According to statistics, the United States lost 265 aircraft, most of which were blown up when arranged neatly on the ground. A total of 2,403 people died and 1,178 were injured; the Japanese lost 29 aircraft and 55 pilots. The Pearl Harbor incident was the most serious tragedy in the history of the United States.

As Roosevelt walked to the House podium with his son James, thunderous applause came after wave, and Republicans also applauded and welcomed it. This was the first time in many years, because political hostility had disappeared in a time of emergency across the country. The Pearl Harbor incident united the American people and supported Franklin.

Roosevelt. He held the podium with one hand and opened the notebook with the other. His eyes looked around the hall for a moment, looking at the cabinet officials sitting in the front row, the Supreme Court justices and diplomatic envoys from various countries, and then looked up at the full auditorium of the hall, his wife and Woodrow.

Wilson's wife sat together. Across the country, Americans gathered in front of the radio and listened to familiar voices, Roosevelt said very cautiously: "Yesterday, December 12, 1942 - this was a notorious day. The United States was attacked by the Japanese Imperial Navy and Air Force. The United States and that country were originally in a state of peace and were still in conversation with the Japanese government and the Emperor at the request of Japan, hoping to maintain peace in the Pacific. This attack caused serious losses to the U.S. Navy and Army. Many Americans died. Since Japan despicable attacks on Sunday, December 12, I ask the U.S. Congress to declare that the United States and the Japanese Empire are in a state of war."

The Senate unanimously approved the president's request within an hour without debate. The House heard several people's speeches and then voted to pass, with only one person objecting.

Montana Rep. Janet.

Rankin voted against the person, who had also voted against the United States' participation in World War I.

The United States officially joins the World War!
