Chapter 2: The Death Triangle of the Asian Continent
Lop Nur was a big lake in the past, also known as Rob Nur. "Robu" is an ancient Turkic word, which means gathering waters. "Nur" is Mongolian word, which means sea.
In the early Quaternary Pleistocene, the climate was warm, cool and rainy, and the area of the ancient Lop Nur Lake exceeded 200,000 square kilometers.
When Zhang Qian went on a mission to the Western Regions, when he passed by Lop Nur, the locals told him that this big lake often suddenly disappeared at a certain time. Zhang Qian believed that Lop Nur penetrated into the ground, flowing thousands of miles, and exposed the surface, so the Yellow River was found...
Military writer Pang Tianshu wrote in his book:
Lop Nur disappeared several times in his history and reappeared several times. Because of the new round of orogenic movement, global climate change, human reclamation activities, river water diversion and interruption... Lop Nur died and resurrected again, resurrection and death again, and the true six-generation reincarnation.
Some scientists believe that Lop Nur is constantly drifting, while some scientists oppose it. No matter what the conclusion is, Lop Nur, a ghostly land, is even more confusing.
When did it become desert?
In 1934, the world-renowned explorer Sven Heding inspected Lop Nur. At that time, there were more than 1,000 square kilometers of water. He wrote in "Eight Years of Expedition in the Hindustry of Asia"-
At that time, Lop Nur was like a mirror, with many wild ducks playing on the lake, and many fish and gulls flying in the air. Looking around, a mirage appeared in the southeast, and a row of black shadows lingered on the horizon. Some things like spacecraft floated over Lop Nur...
Over the past 350 years, this water has gradually dried up and completely disappeared in the late 1960s, becoming a mysterious sea of death. There is no grass, no stream, and no insect. The surface temperature in summer is as high as 80℃. No bird dares to cross.
The greatest tree in the desert is poplar, which is born and never died for 1,000 years, die for 1,000 years, and fall for 1,000 years. Even poplars die in Lop Nur and eventually disappear.
In 1949, the plane from Chongqing to Dihua (Urumqi) disappeared over Shanshan. In 1958, it was found on the salt shell in eastern Lop Nur, and all the people on board died. What is puzzling is that the plane originally flew to the northwest, but why did it suddenly change its route and fly to the south? No one knows.
In 1950, a unit of the People's Liberation Army suppressed bandits in the Tarim Basin. A guard rode a horse and broke out of the encirclement and disappeared. 32 years later, the geological team found his body in Hongliugou on the south bank of Lop Nur. It was more than 100 kilometers away from the place where he disappeared.
In 1959, Li Quanyou and others from the Heavy Magnetic Investigation Team of the Petroleum Bureau found four bodies when they entered the area east of Lop Nur to explore.
In July 1978, a large truck from the ninth team of the First Brigade of the Xinjiang Geological and Mineral Bureau transported supplies to Lop Nur operators. The driver, deputy and assistant engineer disappeared. A certain air force of the Air Force went to rescue and found three bodies.
On June 17, 1980, the famous scientist Peng Jiamu mysteriously disappeared while inspecting Lop Nur. He searched from multiple sources and found nothing. In 2007, a mummy was finally found in Lop Nur. However, after DNA identification, the mummy was not Peng Jiamu.
In 1990, 7 people from Hami took a passenger and cargo car to Lop Nur to look for crystal mines, but they never returned. Two years later, people found three mummies under a steep slope. The car was 30 kilometers away from the deceased, and the whereabouts of others were unknown.
In 1995, a Milan farm employee led two relatives to Lop Nur to explore treasures. Afterwards, an explorer found two bodies 17 kilometers away from Loulan. The car was intact and there was no shortage of gasoline and water, and the cause of death was unknown.
In June 1996, Chinese explorer Yu Chunshun hiked through Lop Nur and unfortunately died.
In 1997, a family of three in Dunhuang, Gansu, led by their father, went to Loulan to hunt for treasure, but never returned. In the end, their bodies were discovered by gold diggers.
In late 2005, someone found an unknown male body in Lop Nur. He went to Lop Nur to explore on his own, but died for some reason.
In the same year, the armed police force entered Lop Nur to look for gold mines. In the Hongshanzui area, Zhao Shengling, a Shandong recruit who had joined the army for less than half a year, disappeared. Three days later, his comrades found him on a ridge. At this time, his eyes were dull and expressionless. No matter how everyone called him or hugged him, he was as unresponsive as a wooden man...
In 2007, someone found two unknown bodies on the edge of Lop Nur, and some scattered ancient coins and ancient vessels were found along the footprints, which determined that they were tomb robbers.
There are also some bones, no one knows who it is, and that will be an eternal mystery.
On February 27, 2009, Uyghur driver Kasmu, his friends and four guides drove from Shanshan County, crossed the southwest desert and entered Lop Nur. They came to Tieban River near the ancient city of Loulan. Tieban River is a dry riverbed, deep and shallow, with ravines and dangers, without reference, similar everywhere, and easy to get lost. Kasmu mysteriously disappeared here.
The rescuers searched 9 times and found only Kasmu's will and telescopes and other relics. The will was written in a pencil. He said to his wife: Dear wife, I may not be able to get out. Sorry, the child is still young, and the burden at home is given to you. I blame myself and love you! I have never owed anyone debts outside. I, Agricultural Bank and ICBC, have some deposits, see if I won the lottery ticket I bought two days ago. If anyone finds my will, please contact my friend Parhati, mobile number...
The latest tragedy occurred in February 2013. A scientific research team went to Lop Nur to find manganese ore, and seven people disappeared strangely...
No one has been able to hike through Lop Nur on foot.
Some people call the Lop Nur region the "devil triangle" on the Asian continent.
The ancient Silk Road passed through there. Throughout history, many lonely ghosts wandered there, and their dead bones were everywhere. Faxian, a monk from the Eastern Jin Dynasty, wrote an almost horrifying sentence for Lop Nur in "Records of the Buddha's Kingdom": "There are many evil ghosts and hot winds in the sand river. If you encounter them, you will die. No one is complete. There are no birds above and no beasts below. If you want to save, you will not know what to plan. You can only use the dead bones of dead people as the mark..."
It was late at night and I sorted out my heart.
The reason why my idea of rushing to Lop Nur is getting stronger and stronger shows that in my subconscious, I do think that I am different from others.
When I was very young, my parents disappeared one after another, and I grew up in my uncle's house.
I heard that my father went to the northwest, but he never returned.
Half a year later, my mother ran away from home. I don’t know where she went. Now I suspect she is looking for her father and has also gone to the northwest.
And Lop Nur is in the northwest!
Maybe, there is my roots in that place.
Even if I can't find anything, I want to go and explore.
I don’t like to mention my age, but I am 45 years old after all. If I don’t go this time, I probably won’t have the energy to travel through Lop Nur.
After making up my mind, I started physical exercise.
Run in the morning, swim at noon, and exercise in the afternoon.
I live in the eastern suburbs of Lancheng, which is very quiet and suitable for writing stories.
That night, I returned home after dinner on the street, took a shower and was about to go to bed when the phone rang.
My phone is only used to contact my 15-year-old daughter across the ocean, and few people know about it. I looked at it and it was not my daughter's or monsoon's, so it was probably a harassing call.
I didn't answer.
After a while, the phone rang again, and it was still the same strange number. I still didn't answer.
After lying down, I just turned off the lights and the text message came. I picked it up and looked at it, 5 words: I'll walk with you.
