Chapter 6 Relocation of Tombs

My grandmother was bedridden for a long time due to the sequelae of stroke, so she had some Alzheimer's disease. However, I believe what she said to me was absolutely true. My grandfather and a young man from the same village, Zhenmin's father, entered an ancient tomb. My grandmother repeatedly emphasized: They were not robbing the tomb, but they were still cursed.

After my grandfather came back, he had acute aphasia. After more than half a month, he did not improve. So he went to see a barefoot doctor. He thought it was acute pharyngitis and prescribed some oleyroid dysprout. After using it, it still did not improve. In the end, he had to go to the county hospital for examination and was determined to be throat cancer, which was already in the late stage. My grandfather worked as a long-term worker and a farmer all his life, and was illiterate, so he naturally did not leave a will.

After Zhenmin's father returned home, he could still speak, but he became taciturn from then on. No matter how others asked him, he refused to answer that he had been to the ancient tomb with Lao Xue, my grandfather. When my grandfather passed away, my grandmother began to build a new house for my uncle. Zhenmin's father took the initiative to come over to help, but when he was lifting the beam, he was hit to death by the falling beam.

My grandmother said so many things to me all at once, and she was very tired. She fell asleep before she finished a bowl of soup.

I was lying on my cousin's bed, and I couldn't sleep. It's certain that my grandfather and Zhenmin's father must have encountered something that cannot be told in the ancient tomb. Although the two tried their best to keep this secret, they still couldn't escape.

My grandfather’s tragic situation when he was dying is still unforgettable. I don’t want to participate in moving my grandfather’s grave, but my cousin went to work far away and my cousin was in high school in the county and could not come back to help.

The next morning, after we used the breakfast made by our aunt, our uncle said, "We will start moving the grave today, and we need to hurry up."

I hurriedly said that I seemed to be sick and had a little dizzy, and asked if I could not go?

My uncle asked Brother Zhenmin to start the tricycle first. He whispered to me: "I know you are timid, but you must participate. When you help your grandfather move the grave, you can pick whatever you want in the old house. Where will you take away if you like it?"

I smiled bitterly. Grandpa worked long-term and farmer for half his life. God blessed the whole family to have enough food. What other good things can there be?

But I have already come here, so I can't refute my uncle's face, right? I had to agree, but declared in advance that I would never restrain my bones. My uncle agreed and he took a woven bag.

My grandfather's coffin was placed in a cave in a mountain valley near the middle of the Wugou in Mangling. It was not far from Huimeng Town, but the road was difficult to walk. Brother Chanjun rode an imported motorcycle and carried a bricklayer. Brother Zhenmin and my uncle took a tricycle to lead the way.

We are all familiar with this ditch, but because we haven't been here for more than ten years, we don't recognize the road anymore. The ditch is full of weeds that are more than one person tall. My uncle sighed: "Now there are fewer people raising cattle and sheep, and no one wants the weeds anymore. If it weren't before, it would have been so tall!"

The tricycle's tires ran over the dry grass as thick as fritters and stopped on a slope.

I stood in the car and looked forward, and I had forgotten where I was?

Brother Zhenmin jumped off the bridge and explained: "There is no road ahead, we can only walk over!"

My uncle told us: "That's a hurry, we must complete the relocation of the grave today."

The champion brother also stopped the motorcycle, took the bricklayer, carried a cardboard box, and straddled a cloth pocket on his body. He threw paper money into the sky while walking.

It was cloudy, and the wind blew from the other side of the ravine, whistling and the dead grass was blown and shaking, just like someone or a beast hiding it. Brother Zhenmin pulled out a hatchet and opened the way forward while guessing: "There may be a wolf in this ravine."

When I was a child, I was very scared of wolves. I only knew that a villager in the same village would bite a wolf and give him "one ear" from then on.

However, when I grew up, I was not afraid of wolves because I had never come into contact with them. But I was still afraid of death, especially those I knew.

The further I walked, the scenery in front of me became familiar. In front of a cave that was almost buried by soil, my uncle stopped and looked around. After receiving the affirmation of the old mason and the champion brother, he took out two shovels and started digging.

Brother Zhenmin and his uncle started digging first. I tried not to see the hole as thick as a bucket, but the crows wailed on the cliff, which felt a little unlucky.

The champion brother opened the carton, which contained firecrackers, incense, candles, paper money, and fruits for sacrifices. The old mason was already using Brother Zhenmin's hatchet to clean up the dead grass near the cave, otherwise it would be easy to cause wildfires.

I helped Brother Champion place the fruit and melons and fruits. The old mason's hand was quick. In less than a stick of incense, he cleared out five or six square meters of open space. My uncle and Brother Zhenmin were also tired of digging, so I and Brother Champion were put on the battlefield.

The cave was dark and I couldn't see anything clearly, but I stood behind Brother Chan and was responsible for cleaning up the soil he dug out.

This soil is reddish-brown, and it is made into adobe and is very strong to build a house, which can withstand wind and rain.

Brother Chan was tired of digging, so he went to the side and lit a cigarette. I couldn't help looking into the cave. Suddenly a yellow fox jumped out of it, which scared me and sat on the ground with a "good" sound.

My uncle cursed and went after him with a hatchet, but was stopped by the old bricklayer.

Who can tolerate native dogs and wild foxes occupying the graves of their relatives?

The cave was dug up and a bluestone slab was exposed inside. I was shocked to guard the sacrificial supplies. My uncle and Zhenmin were already prying the bluestone slabs. With the loud sound of horns, this bluestone slab of more than one ton was slowly knocked down.

The old bricklayer immediately took out the underworld coins and burned them. The champion brother said in an experienced manner: "Uncle II, we have moved our graves for you today. You have stayed here enough. I'll change you a Feng Shui treasure land."

My uncle pulled me to kowtow to the coffin inside at the entrance of the cave. I saw that the word "Shou" on the coffin baffle was already mottled.

However, the coffin could not be taken away together, so Brother Zhenmin lit the firecrackers, and the old mason shouted, "Open the coffin!"

My uncle and the champion brother pried open the lid of the coffin with a crowbar, and the mason shouted again, "Don't panic, old man, it's your children and grandchildren who are here to move your grave!"

Brother Champion was standing at the entrance of the cave with a handful of incense in his hand. Brother Zhenmin held a flashlight to illuminate it. His uncle put on gloves and began to sort out his grandfather's remains.

I heard the sound of bells hitting, and my grandfather's horror when he was dying came to my mind again: his eyes were wide open, his eye sockets were deep, his body was thin, he was wearing a coarse cloth shroud, his mouth was filled with bells, and there were only some crude burial objects,

My grandfather died with his eyes open. I was most afraid of his eyes. I remember that his coffin was full of paper pieces and there was also a paper man.

Soon my uncle came out with a woven bag. Chan Jun and Zhenmin put the coffin on the weeds and burned it together. The blue smoke soared into the sky. No one cared about it at that time, as long as it did not cause wildfires.

I asked the old bricklayer if the entrance of the cave would need to be backfilled. He waved his hand and signaled no to use it. Then he ordered me to move the sacrifice to the entrance of the cave and throw all the remaining money into the fire in the cave.

When I returned, I insisted on riding the motorcycle of Champion Brother, but Brother Zhenmin was still driving the tricycle. My uncle put the woven bag on his legs and hugged it carefully.

When the champion brother was riding a motorcycle and leading the way, he was about to leave the ravine, he shouted seriously: "I have been dead on my motorcycle!"

I felt a little disgusted when I heard this, and responded: "Aren't you afraid of killing people and strangling you to death?"

The champion brother answered indifferently: "I have seen so many dead people, and I have never encountered a zombie fraud. I'm not afraid!"
